I just came across this thread today and I was wondering if it was possible for me to get a SERO plan without getting slammed for the ETF? I've signed a 2 year contract with sprint in January of 07 and I'm hoping they'll let me switch over. Would it be a better idea to ask through ecare or customer service?
congrats on ur first post. yea it is possble, i did it as well as many others, just depends who you talk to and i used *2.

I called 11 times trying to get them to just put me on the SERO plan without cancelling, I have been with Sprint since 1999. They wouldn't do it and let me keep my phone number. I went to Radio Shack and got a $19.99 Cingular phone and ported my number to it - this took about 5 minutes. Then went and signed up for SERO on the website and everything went through just fine.
Just got my phone today (Fusic) and called and ported my number back. Now my phone is charging and everything seems to be good. Now if I could only get the $8 unlimited texts but that doesn't seem to be something regular agents or even employee services agents know how to do.

Wow, what a pain to get Sero. At least you got it!
I think the way Sprint gives out $8 unlimited text is to sign up for the regular price $15? and then apply a credit of $7. I don't think there is a specific code to give you $8 unlimited text- that may be why some reps are coming up blank.

I just recently signed up for the same plan. through the sprint website. Everything went perfect with the so popular savings@sprintemi.com address I have been out of contract for almost 2 years so i did qualify for sprint SERO. If anyone is curious if sprint is allowing existing customers to benifit of SERO. Answer is YES, As long as you are out of contract with sprint. Flip side, NO Porting numbers Absolutely have to get a new number to officialy be a new subscriber. Weigh the options. IMHO Its a No Brainer. Enjoy.
PS: The CSR that i spoke to on the phone said that i have FREE Roaming!!!!
Can anyone confirm this?
One of the 5,000 people who have the SERO plan. Does it come with FREE roaming??
I have this same plan. I emailed ecare Thursday and my plan took into effect on Sunday. I didn't have to port my number or even change my number. All they did was change my plan around and I got to keep my phone.

Hi..... I need some advice here. You guys seem to know alot about this stuff.
I am a current Nextel customer. I have 2 lines both on SERO. I have been with nextel for 10 months.
I called and asked if I could switch to sprint with no ETFs and they said most definatley. I asked about deposit and they said I was approved for 1 line of service and a $150 deposit was required. I said I needed 2 lines not one and she told me to hold. She came back and said she talked to finance or credit dept I cant remember but they said I was approved for 3 lines no deposit. So I went to the SERO website and placed an order for 2 lines of Sprint service with the dreaded inphonic.
First problem was they insisted I place 2 seperate orders. I dont know why so I have 2 order #s to deal with now. So I place the order and awhile later I get the email to contact them.
I call and they want $150 deposit on each order. But sprint told me NO deposit so they tell me to call sprint and get a confirmation #. So about 6 calls to sprint until I get a rep that gives me some code (she doesnt know what it is but its the only code she can find.) So I call inphonic with my code.
I wait.... Now I get another email telling me to call inphonic.
first order says "credit approved" in the status but it says to call them because they cant port my number.
The other order says "processing"
So I call and they want $150 deposit again on both orders and they say they cannot port my number. I tell them to cancel the port request and I will call sprint about the deposit. I am beyond frustrated. I call back sprint and it only takes 4 calls to get a code this time. The guy was actually helpful and has given me a new code.
So call back to inphonic with the code. That is where I am now. one of my orders says "Processing" please wait while we process blah blah blah
The other order says
"We are ready to ship your order.
The phone you ordered is extremely popular and we are currently moving additional inventory into stock. As soon as your phone is in stock, we will complete your order and ship it right away.
We apologize for this inconvenience; this process normally takes less than 72 hours. Once your order is ready to ship, we will send you an email and update this site."
and in the status section it says "Credit Approved"
I don't know if there is hope for me yet or is this some sick cruel joke.
I don't want one phone to go through and not the other. I need 2.
I wonder if anyone has any advice for me ....I have been going back and forth with this since last week. PLEASE help!!

so today i called *2 (CS) and got my sero plan activated within minutes, i didnt have to get a new phone or new line or anything. just reactivate my account. i gave the lady the savenow2@sprint.com email adress and she was really nice and helped me out.
unfortunately i had to cancel it right away because 500 minutes is not enough for me. so i just emailed my dad about looking at the other plans and seeing what he wanted to do with them. but if u call the right people, and ask the right way and be patient, u can get thru to them and get what u want.
i simply just said i had stumbled upon the plan thru the sprint site and that i wanted to see if i could get it and how i could get it and what i had to do. and that i didnt want an additional line, nor did i want to get a new phone. she said i didnt need to do any of that as long as i renewed my contract. so sad that i had to cancel it the very next minute tho! but hey at least i know it works. :)

You could have asked for the next plan up. It is SERO 1250. $50/month for 1250 minutes.

ohmichea, if you did only get one line, I am wondering how difficult (or easy) it would be to call Employee Accounts and inquire about adding a second SERO line to the account. That is an option. I just don't know how realistic it is. I may actually try this myself so if I get around to it before you do, then I will let you know how it goes.
I'm sorry but I don't have too much other advice. Good luck! :fingers:

My SERO story...
First off, I'm a new (returning from 6 years ago) customer... I spent the last 6 years with Verizon.
Last week I signed up through Letstalk.com. They had the cheapest Sanyo M1 and free 8400. I signed up for family plan with 550 minutes 2 lines. I payed for overnight, which was already taking 4 days for delivery. Over the weekend I was reading on here about SERO. I went to the sprint.com/sero and put in savings@sprintemi.com and it put me through to the SERO deals. I found the Sanyo M1 for only $99. I called the phone number to see what I could do. I explained my order from letstalk.com and asked if I could just keep the phones that were on the way to be delivered to me. But I wanted to cancel my family plan. He said I have to buy the phones through him and he could offer me two SERO accounts because they don't offer shared accounts. So I ordered the phones I wanted and signed up for two accounts of SERO 500 AT, 7PM, free activation, free shipping, free power vision with unlimited web, data, picture and video mail. I'm not sure if this is PV Acces, Plus, or Premium... I just want to watch live NFL Network.
So my two phones arrived the same day, Monday, from letstalk.com. I had to call them and get an RMA # to return the phones and now I'm waiting for reimbursment. I also had to call Sprint to cancel my original 550 Family plan. That got tricky and I was getting nervous. I got transferred 3 times. The first lady didn't know what SERO was when I explained what I was trying to do. The next lady said I only had the 550 Family plan and no SERO plans were showing up. The third lady (who sounded important) kept asking for the Sprint employees email over and over again. I just kept giving her the savings@sprintemi.com email. She tried telling me the Sprint employee I know has to sign me up through their account. Then all of a sudden my two SERO accounts must have just been processed or something. She said "oh, you have been approved for two SERO accounts. So, you just want to cancel your original family plan?". I said yes, and it was done simple as that.
So I payed for 4 phones altogether. I'm hoping letstalk.com will reimburse me soon.
One more thing, when I was signing up for the SERO accounts the guy told me if I don't pay my bills on time for the first 6 months I will be charged a $250 equipment fee.
I'm paying the same price as I would have for 550 family plan, but now I have twice the minutes and a whole bunch of free/unlimited features that would have costed atleast $15 per phone. I didn't ask for anything else like nights at 6p.m. or FIMF. They did try to offer me to pay for text messaging, but I don't use it.
Once I get these two phones... hopefully tomorrow... I will try to apply my 20% company discount to both lines.

I didn't even try to transfer my old phone numbers, but I don't think they would have let me. The two new phone #s aren't in my area code... I hope Sprint can fix this for me.

In early march I got my RAZR and Sero plan, it wasn't hard to get since someone had sent me an email address, accesspass@sprint.com . It still works, I was able to log into the SERO site this evening. I will say it's been a crazy, wild and aggravating month though..... I had originally called to place my order, Don't Call! They got my addresses all confused and I was afraid things would get lost. Then my phone was defective and and I had to send it back.... more address confusion and many emails and phone calls before I finally called sales and a nice man was able to sort the whole mess out. My replacement phone came in due time, and my bill got here too.... so now I'm hoping that there won't be any more drama with my phone or service for a long, long time! (At least a couple of yrs! lol )

I am not sure if they have access to Inphonic orders but my first guess would be no. I am not sure how porting from Nextel works but I would say don't be surprised if you end up with some kind of ETF.

I best not get an ETF. In my hundred calls over the last few days dealing with this everytime I got switched to sales they kept telling me no ETF from nextel to sprint, its the same company blah blah. If they port my number I dont see how they could charge me. The way my luck is going though......no wait I can't get an EFT if they wont even ship me the dang phone! lol

Well, Just got the $30 plan.
Several calls, had it originally on the first try but needed to release my phone from my corporate (University) account in order for it to be changed. This is done today, and it takes me 3 calls of nobody knowing what I am talking about or saying it cannot be done over the phone. 4th call lady knows what is going on and switches me no problem, kept phone number, everything, I requested the Q b/c it was cheap but will swap it if the 6800 comes out.
She transferred me to sales to get the phone order in, in which I got nobody who knew what to do, I said thanks, called back, this guy sounded a little like he didn't care and i'm pretty sure he hung up on me when I said 'You're not understanding what I am trying to say'. He was offering me $75 off the phone price...
Just called retentions directly, spoke to a lady, she took care of it all and shipped out the Q for $99. Quite a hassle but everything worked out. Oh, and this was all switching to SERO 100% legitimately (my friend owns a sprint retailer and gave me his endorsement for it).

Also keep in mind Employee Accounts was set up (last year, as far as I know they still do) to activate Sero accounts. You'll need a legimate referral (most likely) to go thru them. Also they are the dept. that services Sero accounts and THEY have their own RETENTIONS dept too! ;)

I stumbled across this thread yesterday, I hadn't really heard of SERO prior. The plans in SERO are amazing- much better than what I was paying. I just signed on with Sprint in February, so I knew I could change my plan w/o any trouble because I was still within 3 months of signing (Sprint Right Plan Promise). I decided to give it a shot. I called *2 and spoke to CS yesterday around 12:00pm EST. I got a very nice lady, but she had never heard of the SERO plan. I explained it to her (told her to go to sprint.com/sero) and she looked it over. After much effort on her part (I was on the phone with her for about 30 mins), she said she was unable to do it, she even asked her co-workers and they didn't know how to do it. She said the only way I could do it was on the SERO website, and that I would probably only be able to do it by adding another line since I was an existing customer.
Well I didn't want to add another line, and after reading all the advice in this forum, I politely thanked her, hung up the phone, and tried again. This time I tried technical support. The lady I spoke with there said I would have to do it through employee services, so she transfered me. I got a polite man this time. I was only on the phone with him for about 10 mins, and he sayed he was unable to do it over the phone and the only way it could be done was on the website. Well, not to be discouraged (thanks to the advice given by earlier entries), I gave it another shot. Now it's around 1:15pm. I decided to go the *2 CS route again. I got another very polite lady this time and I made sure I was very polite in return. I started off by stating that I just signed on with Sprint in February and that I was very happy with the service so far and that I loved my new phone. I mentioned that I had a friend that worked at Sprint and he recommended a plan to me that would save me money on my monthly bill, the SERO plan. She knew of the plan, and without any trouble at all, she was able to switch my plan to the SERO 500. She didn't even ask for an email address (I was ready to use savenow2@sprint.com or openaccess@sprint.com- both work). I couldn't believe how easy it was. We went over all the features on my new plan and everthing was right. My advice- be polite. If your first attempt doesn't work, be patient and try again. Not all CS reps know how to do it or are willing to do it (that's were being polite helps). It's definitely worth the time and effort though, I'm going to save over $350 a year. Good luck!

Hey all!
Just wanted to share a recent SERO score....
I shared the info from here- thanks all- with a co-worker (my plan isn't up for several more weeks)....They went to the site, entered one of the old promo email addys.
They came from a shared line plan and were successful in transferring over BOTH phone numbers to two seperate $30 sero plans. Their phones should be here today and all is well.....
1 question though:
There seems to no be a clear answer for it.....maybe just the luck of the draw- but....
We are going to get two phones. One of them, the SERO site doesn't have. So....can the phone be bought in store w/ a contract renewal and then have the plan changed (or upgraded?) a SERO plan. Of course without losing the number or paying an ETF (since it is within 30 days)?
Just curious if anyone has an idea (other than buy a pre-paid phone port the number....blah blah blah)...I've seen similar incidents but not quite....
Thanks again to you all for your insight and info here. This community rocks.

yes. I've been with Sprint for a few years but under my mother's line. I canceled my line under her name and I got my own line.Once I got my own line with a totally different number. I got the 300 incoming plan with the 8400 phone. I emailed ecare and asked them about getting the Sero plan and explained to them that I wanted to keep my phone and the number and they did it. No problem and on the first try.

Once your already on Sero your eligible to change your current plans to Sero. If CS says they cant touch Sero, call Buisness. If they deny to help you, calmly ask what your account type is. If it is B I N G O F A, They can help you, plan does not matter.

I already switched my secondary line to SERO by the pre-paid phone route since I was turned down a dozen times on the phone/eCare.
On my main line which I have had for over 5 years, I said cancel at the prompt and within 30 seconds they had switched me to SERO and are sending me the phone I wanted (Inphonic did not have the color I wanted). Couldn't convince them to add any sort of free texts so I may just go the 300 free route for college students. Oh and I have corporate discount on both lines still.

For those that haven't read thru the hundereds if not thousands of Sero posts. Call employee accounts with a legimate referral from a Sprint employee and I'll bet they'll switch you right over! ;)
They are the OFFICIAL dept. that is tasked with dealing with employee type plans such as Sero, they also have a RETENTIONS dept! :)

Hehe, did you ask for the text features on all the phones? It would be strange of Sprint to just give you a freebie without asking for it first, unless CS was being nice or it's a mistake- check you features/bill online and see what it says...
If it is a mistake- keep quiet and enjoy.

Question/issue and a comment
First, if you want on SERO, keep trying. I called 25-30 times over the course of a month before I finally got on the plan yesterday. I had tried retentions, employee care, flirting with a girl at the Sprint store, calling employee care and saying my signup call got dropped, etc. Yesterday I just called *2 and the woman who answered just signed me up.
It's really just luck of the draw.
Now, to the question. I signed up for the SERO 1250 on both of my phones yesterday morning. The rep said the plan would go into effect on May 1. She said she couldn't sell me 2 Qs for the $99, though, and sent me to Telesales. I ended up talking to them 5 times, and every time the deal was different, but never very good. Finally I called retention, and the guy there set it up so that I could purchase the Qs at a store for $199 and get a $100 MIR = $99.
When I got to the store, they made me sign a generic agreement for a new 2-year plan. So here's the question -
Since my new SERO plan starts on May 1, did I just reset my plan to the old one? The guy at the store said "No way," but just to make sure, I called *2 and asked this question . The first time I called, the rep said "you have to sign back up for SERO again," but that she wouldn't do it. The second time the rep said "No, you're fine." The third time the rep said "I can't tell, call back on May 1 and then you'll know.
What do you think?

Congrats. How long have you been with Sprint and how far were you in the contract if you were on a contract at all.

I've been with Sprint forever (10 years or so) and my contract expired in December.
Still wondering if I got myself un-signed up by buying the phones. I've gotten no response from e-care.

I just got it via the details I found on FatWallet. I got a Moto QI. 'm using it for Web browsing and Google Maps on the phone, along with the Gmail applet. Anything I should be careful not to do so I don't get hit with extra charges? I've already used like 20MB of data, but the Sero plan comes with Unlimited.
And what is this "On Demand" app for local listings/news? Does it cost to use it?
Thanks.

you don't have to worry about anything running up your data usage on SERO. with SERO it IS unlimited. the only thing you will get charged for are for example ringers you download from sites or from sprint or anything of that nature but internet surfing is under just normal vision services. you can avoid charges for downloading ringers and stuff by using online uploaders of custom ringers which if you do a search you'll find info on that. last month my personal bill was $100.00 alone in data usage which then i called in to sprint and they adjusted it because there was supposedly an error in the system not showing my unlimited internet activated. just check your bill and you'll be fine.
On demand uses internet time to update and stuff but that again falls under your plan so you don't have to worry about it.
hopefully that helps.

Thanks all for the advice and input on getting on the SERO plan.
I called up *2 today, asked to change my plan, and got it on the first try. The rep was extremely helpful and knew exactly what I was talking about. I did have to provide an e-mail address, but I had that from my cousin who works at Sprint. I'm 18 months into my 2 year contract, but that didn't seem to present any issues.
Now I just have to try and upgrade my phone from the MM-940 to a Motorola Q. Didn't have as much luck doing that today, as I made three calls to retention and telesales with no success whatsoever. Oh well, at least I'm happy to have the SERO plan.

My contract(3 lines to share 800 fair and flexible minutes, 7pm free, vision $5, 15% loyalty discount) is up in a month's time. Been with SprintPCS since 1999. Also has Sprint at Home.
Questions: 1) If I get SERO, I would have to get 3 separate accounts. Will they automatically continue the 15$ loyalty discount onto each of the 3 accounts?
2) Do I still get my phone upgrade discounts that was offered for the regular account like free phones or M500/900m for $49.99? Btw are these good phones?
3) If I have an employee's email address, is the best way to get SERO via the internet? But then you probably will not get the loyalty discount unless you speak to a rep.
4) Finally do you keep your phone number?
Thanks.

1. If you switch, discounts usually stay.
2. Depending on the sero plan, you may not qualify for discounts.
3. "Technically", the website is the only way to get sero. Some people have managed to get it done through customer service though.
4. If you get your plan switched, yes. If you sign up over the net, no.

So the Power Vision included in SERO includes unlimited web usage. But does not come with the $5 or $10 credit for purchases of Vision services like ringers, games etc.
Which PV plan is included in SERO? The basic PV Access?
Thank you Wayne and all you guys in your help. Will keep you posted on the outcome of my quest for SERO/ "forced" contract renewal.

Yes, it's the cheapo Power Vision with picture and video mail. Be sure you get them to go into the dropdown menu and ACTIVATE them for you. I had to when I received Sero.

Not Exactly.....read below.
Ok, well as I posted a while back, I called and got my plan switched from 39.99 for 400 AT, $20 for the Power Vision, etc. to the SERO $30.00 plan. No email needed, no new number, but she did say I would have to renew my contract.....
Well my cycle finally ended, and alas I have the plan. But she didn't renew my contract, which means I am up in July of next year still. It's no big deal really, but apparently there is a way to NOT have to renew....
And for those saying they can't keep your current number, that is BS. Because I did.
So after I finally saw the changes to my plan, I noticed I was still being charged $20 for the PV pack. I called and confirmed that I recieve unlimited vision, and she said yes, but NOT PICTURE/VIDEO MAIL. So I dropped the $20 PV pack, and had to add the picture pack (only $5) to my account. Again, apparently PICTURE MAIL IS NOT INCLUDED.
But still, $30 for the plan, $7 for insurance, and $5 for picture mail isnt bad. Plus I have a 25% business discount (YES, you can keep your discount!), so I should be paying less than $35 a month. Probably about $25 after my dropped call credits.
So, to all of you who are trying to switch, Don't Let Them Tell You They Can't Keep Your Discounts, Or That You Have To Change Your Number!

A rep can easily tell you that SERO is a special plan and does not qualify for additional discounts, which is the correct policy.
Honestly, how would you like it if people constantly asked you to violate your employers policy and put their employment in danger over extra discounts or just going against company policy? If you wouldn't be too willing to lose your own job for some random customer, dont expect a sprint rep to break the rules as a matter of course. you may find the occasional rep who is willing to break or stretch the policy, but it will be rare

Good news. Buying the Qs didn't change my plan.
On the discount front, the rep gave me a 10% "loyalty discount" off one SERO 1250 and 5% off the other. I didn't ask for it, complain, tell her I was frustrated because I'd been trying over and over, or anything like that. She just did it.
It's only $7.50 or so, but I thought that was pretty nice of her.

When I signed up for Sero last year Sprint was attempting the same bait and switch as what the csr told you. They told me it wasn't included YET it was POSTED on the Sprint web site.......that picture and video Mail ARE INCLUDED. Last year one of our members posted the Sero PV description in one of the LARGE Sero threads.
Anyway after I received Sero, I called them back and they balked (at adding them) and I mentioned they had it posted on their site, and they added those features. We did this on several accounts! ;) :)

I need to transfer the account into my name, am i better off signing up for a new SERO account (and getting a new number of course) than keeping my current 50$ plan. My plan currently includes 350 Anytime minutes, 8PM nights and weekends, unlimited Vision, texting, picture mail, and i think video mail. I have the grandfathered 10$ vision plan from quite a few years ago.
I would be using the savings@sprint.com code to get the plan online.

It really depends on your needs. If you are going over your minutes, or prefer earlier nights, it may be worth it to switch.
The GF vision is a good deal because it includes texting. SERO doesn't include it so you'd have to pay additional for that.

Darat,
You may be able to get loyalty discounts, 7pm free or even a discount credit($5) for your Vision plan if you have been with Sprint for a few years. Many of us have your plan and then was offered loyalty discounts and Free 7pm if we sign a 2 year contract.
In fact my previous plan was something like yours minus the Vision . I was offered 7pm free and a 10% loyalty discount. Well, I just found out recently that both these discounts have an expiration date and are expiring soon. Which is why I am looking at SERO now.
If you need more minutes than the 350, then maybe SERO is for you. You will be gettting 500 minutes, Power Vision and 7pm . I am still trying to find out if the PV offered in SERO includes the same unlimited picturemail and unlimited web browsing and data transfer/downloads as in your Vision Plan. Also you may be able to keep your number.

Did you find a detailed description of what Sero includes on the Sprint web site? PV access should be the same with Sero as it is with any other plan. It's the plain vanilla version of PV. Remember Sprint (if its like last year) may try to bait and switch you on picture mail/video mail. That's just the way Sprint is........ ;)

You have some alternatives:
1. Ask a Sprint employee to refer you thru employee accounts, assuming they're still signing people up for Sero, they certainly were last year.
2. Go thru the web site.
3. Keep trying, some people have to call many times to find a csr willing to do it.

Yes, I believe you pay for the download, unless you have a phone such as the Sanyo 9000 or similiar that prevents Sprint from tracking downloads. I think there are other ways to prevent Sprint from tracking, and there are threads in here detailing those procedures. :Popcorn2:

I have the plain old Vision currently. When I download a game or ringtones there is no charge for the kilobytes transmitted , only the cost of the game/ringtone. Similarly if I download a free game/ringtone from other sites like 3G etc, no charge for the kilobytes transmitted.

Thanks to your post, I just called and the woman said that Unlimited Picture/Video Mail IS supposed to be included, but for some reason on the plan detail page it says that it is extra for the PM/VM. Weird, but apparently it is suppose to be included.

I stand corrected, if you have the time, do some test downloads of OTHER data you might typically download in the course of a month (small). Check to see if Sprint charges for them, if not you may be fine. As I mentioned before there are some excellent threads in here going in depth, on this subject. :)

He said no problem, asked for the email, said he saw it and switched me right over. Took about 5 mins total. If they will do it you will know immediately.
I am NOT out of contract, just renewed 4 2 yrs in October. Calling Retentions doesnt work either, b/c they gave me 1500 mins for $75 when I called a few months back. Listen to Wayne, Listen to me - Call Employee accts with a real employee email and you will get sero!

After all Sero is a employee type plan, what better dept than employee accounts to handle it. Also they still administer customers with this plan and they have their own RETENTIONS dept!

I have been trying to get Nextel SERO on my two phones for the past 2-3weeks, this has now become my OBSESSION!!
1st call- i explained to the rep i have two nextel phones out of contract for the past year and that i was willing to renew a 2yr contract, shsaid my acct qualified and was in the processing of converting my accts to SERO, mid-way she asked the hold (i knew something was WRONG!!) she informed that my acct cannot be converted from Nextel to Nextel SERO, it has to from sprint to nextel or vice -versa DAMN!!!, or it could be done but i would rece 2 new #'s , i have had both phoens for the past 3 yrs and was not willing to do that..what a DUMMY i was , she tried her best and was not able to. She informed that she i should deceide and that a note was going to be in my acct if i called back. (not sure if i should have let her put a note).
2nd called - this rep informed me that the only way i could get SERO is if i am going from Sprint ot Nextel or vice-versa and that the other thing i could do is change ownership, she said that i should change the acct to my spouses name, seeing that my spouse is the master acct holder, again she said that she woul dput a note in my acct if i needed to call back (AGAIN not sure if i should have let her put a note in my acct again) It seems that Sprint/Nextel loves putting notes in accts.
Can someone inform me of another way to get Nextel SERO, i am losing sleep, i need it so bad....

Well, I tried for the first time today, and I got "D", who informed me that its not promotional anymore and that the only way I could get it is to have some type of issue with my plan and service.
Has anyone had better success calling earlier in the day?

My friend had the same problem getting Nextel SERO. I had the same problem going from the ic502 to Sprint SERO. They would not port my numbers and give me SERO even though my contracts were up.
I simply went to the SERO site got 2 new plans with 2 new numbers. After one week I cancelled my old accounts. It was a pain but well worth the savings!

I know it's more of a hassle to get a referal from a Sprint employee, however if you can get it, and call employee accounts.....getting Sero is much easier! :)

For the average Joe, is the easiest way to just get a card from a rep at a store then? I don't know of anyone that works for Sprint.

I haven't tried that way, however it may be enough just to have the Sprint employee email addy. Last year (the phone number is in one of the old Sero threads) people could call into a automated (initially) line at employee accounts, input the addy and a rep would pickup and continue the process.
In the last couple of days, a SU member got Sero just by getting the addy and calling employee accounts. :)

I've read a great deal of these SERO threads. From what I can gather, it doesn't much matter if you get an address or not, if you are dilligent and continue calling *2, eventually, you will get switched over. It seems like people basically just say that they want to take advantage of the SERO plan, that they are aware of the website, but do not want to go through inphonic because they would like the retain their phone #.
I'm about to undertake this process, I think, and I'll let you guys know what happens. I do have a question, however -- without going through the website (ie, patiently utilizing *2), is it still possible to purchase a new phone at the discount if you are currently only 6 months into a 2 year contract?
I re-upped in October for 2 years, at Best Buy, and purchased a Katana. Since then, the exterior screen has stopped functioning, and I've suddenly become aware of these SERO plans. As someone who has been with Sprint for over 3 years, I feel beyond entitled to whatever their best rate is, at this point, and I do not want to embark on a 2-year stretch with a broken phone if I have an opportunity to upgrade at a discount because I am signing a new deal (when I switch to SERO).
Anyone have any luck switching to SERO, getting a new phone and keeping your current number while in the middle of an existing contract? That's pretty much what I intend to do.

Update --
Just attempted, via *2 to get a new plan. I said my phone is broken and I want to replace it in conjunction with a new plan, then that the Sprint Store I was at 2 hours ago referred me to call customer service and inquire about the employee referral plan website. The CSR simply said, I'm sorry, but there is nothing I can do to help you with that.
To which I said, well, I don't want to sign up for a new 2 year plan then because my phone is broken, and a new phone, with no rebates or discounts, costs too much money.
The only response was, oh, sorry, there's nothing you can do.
Two quick questions -- when everyone says to be dilligent, does that mean hanging up and calling back immediately, or does that mean once a day? a couple times a day? Also, are people just blatantly coming out and saying "I want to switch to a SERO plan, and I want a new phone?" or is there a better way to make the request? (and this is a truly humorous question -- how are you pronouncing SERO, or are you saying it as an acronym, S-E-R-O :))
Final piece of information was that the CSR said those plans are only for adding a line of service, and a normal line cannot be converted to one of those plans...which, of course, I don't believe, at all.

OK, fun times -- update 2:
The second CSR I got was very friendly. I said "I want to upgrade my plan to a plan that the sprint store guy told me about, I think called the s-e-r-o plan." To which, she said, no problem, a sero plan. So I would have gotten it, I think.
Then I said, I am only inquiring because I wanted to upgrade my phone, and he said this might be a cheaper way to do it, since switching to the sero plan would be like signing a new agreement.
She then informed me that this is not the case, and I can only get a new phone if I either pay full price, or apply whatever discounts I have available to me, which, at this point, is $0.00.
So, she said, if I call back in October, I'd get the $75 rebate because it is based on how long you've had your phone.
Then I said, well, I don't really want to do anything at all to extend my plan for 2 years when my current phone is broken.
So that is interesting, and I think I could easily have gotten the plan switched. Who knows.

It goes on! :)
Update #3 - Just to see what the other side of the coin is all about, I went through the motions of setting up an account on the sprint.com/sero website. Then before finalizing, I called their (Inphonic) customer support line, and was informed that they cannot port my number over because I am already a Sprint customer, and in that case, all they can do is set up a new account for me. He politely asked if I wanted to still order the phone and I told him I did not because I wanted to keep my number and I did not wish to terminate my current account. Then I left it at that.
(I realize that perhaps none of this info is new to the forum, but just thought I'd share).

fsphilly, you should be careful how diligent you are at calling. you might get a rep to note on your account that you don't qualify for SERO and then all other reps might read that and say it. just a warning...

When you call, it's best to say you are interested in sero BEFORE giving your account information. The rep will either tell you to go to the website, or attempt to pull it up before asking for your account info. This way, you can kind of prune through the ones who can't help without getting your account notated.

Thanks for the tips guys. That makes total sense. So far, I do not think it will be a problem -- the first Rep didn't say I didn't qualify, and really didn't seem to understand entirely what plan I was talking about. The other rep more or less had no problem changing the account, just didn't think (or didn't want to) she could help me with upgrading/replacing the phone.
The third person was at InPhonic, not Sprint Customer Service, so that call was of no consequence.
But you guys are definitely right, so in the future, I'll make it clear I want a sero account, see what they say, and get off the line if it is apparent it is not going to work out.
I've sent an email to e-care, as well, at another user's suggestion. I'll make another call if necessary (likely :)) after e-care responds.

I am very confused with everyone making SERO such a big deal. Like I said in a previous post in this thead just go to Sprint.com/sero use the password and sign up.
holiday@sprint.com
If you really want a SERO plan you might have to give up your number for a new one, but if you do not want to that ,,,,,,,,,,,keep your old plan and number and pay more!
Its just as simple as that, this is not rocket science. Im sorry if I sound like a know it all or worse, but thats as simple as I can make it. I know because I dit it with 2 lines of service. Good luck to everyone!

The way I did it was get a free phone thru retentions and that renewed my existing contract and THEN I called employee accounts with a referral from a Sprint employee and received Sero. That way I received a free phone without confusing the reps and then received Sero thru people trained in Sero procedures.
Employee accounts is the only dept besides the web site that is charged with handling Sero (plus they handle Sero accounts for existing Sero customers). They have their own retentions dept too. :)

I'll second this, and I'll add (I'm sure I'm not alone with this feeling either) -- but I've been giving Spring money for years. I understand why they are now offering low rates to new activations, however, I was once a courted customer, and frankly, I feel entitled to whatever the best rate is that they can give me. If you don't agree with that, that's fine, and I'll phrase it from the opposite perspective, which is to say that it doesn't make any sense for any one customer to get a rate that is arbitrarily lower than any other customer's rate. At least it doesn't to me.
If certain phone services can be sold to my next door neighbor for $50, I can't see why I should accept receiving the same (actually substantially less) services for $78. I don't like that Sprint is extremely inconsistent on whether they will give you these benefits or not, either. Either do it, or don't do it. But don't do it for some people, sometimes, some call centers, not others, etc. I'll continue to be patient, but I think it's a little ridiculous to basically deny a customer this type of plan and these discounted phones when it's clear as day that the customer is very aware that these plans and discounted phones have been provided to others based simply on their good fortune to have gotten a different CSR on the phone.

Ok this is going to sound dumb. But if you signed a new contract and got a new phone through retentions, would Sprint still entertain you in trying to get the SERO account since you are locked in for another 2 years.
Also, do you get the phones, swap ESN etc first before calling employee accounts. Do you wait for your first bill before calling employee accounts?

I called employee accounts immediately after getting a phone thru retentions and they made no comment about my existing (renewed) contract. I didn't have my new phone in my hands until after I had already signed up for Sero. Signing up for Sero was very simple thru employee accounts. :)
As far as phone numbers for Sprint go, they're rather simple to procure, call Sprint and they'll give them to you, at least that's been my experience. ;)

I've been busy with law school finals, so I wasn't able to spend any time on this lately, but I decided to really go for it again today.
I've given up on the concept of getting a new phone. With CSRs and ecare, I was striking out. So, I'm stuck w/ my slightly damaged Katana for the time being. BUT, why not still get a discounted plan with more features, right?
So, I made 4 attempts in a row. 4th person did not know about the SERO plans but he went to the website. Then he said he had to find the code, then he did that, and then he switched the plan over, extending my commitment 2 more years.
Now I've got 1250 minutes, n/w mins 7:00 pm, unlimited internet/picture mail, all for $49.99. I added $5.00 for 300 texts, so I'm at $54.99 before taxes, which should be about $60 or so w/ taxes.
Old plan - 900 mins, n/w 7:00 pm, no internet/pic mail, $59.99, w/ 300 txt at $5/mo, total of $76 and change w/ taxes.
So long as it's all set up correctly, I'm satisfied.

Well, the first guy seemed about to do it, then at the end, said he couldn't, and i had to go to a Sprint store, so they could verify my ID. I said, "thanks for your time, bye".
The next person said that the plans required an email verification. I said "oh, I didn't know that, thanks for your time, bye".
The next person said they didn't know what I was talking about, and that any new plan would require the ETF, I think. I said, "thanks for the info, bye".
So basically my attitude was, I didn't want to really discuss it with anyone who was not going to do it. I knew there was a possibility I would get my account notated, but I was just really friendly and didn't say much, and got off the line really quickly.
The fourth guy said, sure I can help you change plans, to what plan? And I said, to the Sero plan. He asked what plan, and I said it again, he asked me to spell it because he hadn't heard of it. Then I said there was a website, and he said he would look it up, and then he put me on hold. I just kept saying, thanks, no problem, take your time, etc. Then like 3 minutes later, he comes back on and says OK, he's found the plans in question, 500 minutes, right? I corrected him, and he set me up with the 1250.

Im new to the forums but have had sprint for many years, ive been working at compusa for going on three years and when i started here they offered an employee sprint plan. I had sprint but jumped on this offer...Ive done a little bit of reading on this SERO plan but I just want to see if what i have is better or if I should still attempt more discounts through tips and tricks.

U have a real good deal. Leave it along. I have the sero 1250 plan. And even with the vision and stuff free I still pay more than that. The only thing that might get you would be not having unlimited n&w

Your plan is better than the sero plan. I pay $50 for the 1250, and $5 for 300 texts, so $55 before tax. You have way more going on than me, and for less cash. Good plan, I'd just keep it and forget about sero.

Employee accounts are the best  , they're the ONLY ones (other than the web site) authorized to set people up with SERO!! ;)

well
I got two accounts switched to Sero on the second try through reg customer care
and this one through employee accounts took quiet a few tries, most of them(90% after discussing it with their manager) were telling me to close my 1 day old account and open a new one through the sero website  even when my responce was I'm not going to do that since the sprint store employee told me to call you guys and have it switched, I might as well go back to verizon if that's the case they were no help...
just don't give up!

got this from another sero forum...
So I went to my local Sprint reseller today and asked for a printout of the full details of my plan, including discounts, features, and the like. To my surprise, I got a print out that includes a bunch of account information, my MSL, and... ALL the CODES for my free perks. That includes the codes for 6PM N&W, 200 Additional minutes for 12 months, Unlimited TXT... along with the appropriate credit codes. It also has a description of what each code entails and the Effective date/Expiration Date. Now... if someone official... even Malyshka... would respond to the following question. Would it be OK to post these codes? Just wanna 'help'... if it's allowed.
--------------------------------------------
OK here they are:
Free Unlimited TXT for 2 Years:
Z 2WAY SMS UNL $8----------------------------Account services $8 Unl SMS Plan
Z FREE SMS 2YR---------------------------------Retention 24 Month $8 SMS Credit
or
#C SERO SMS UNL $0
Free 6PM N&W:
#C OFFPEAK 6PM $10--------------------------Consumer $10/6PM Nights and Weekends
Z 6PM $10CR-----------------------------------------Retention 24 Month 6PM N&W $10 Credit
Free 200 Min/mo for 1 Year:
Z RET 200MIN 12MTH-----------------------------Ret 200 ATM MINS F&C Or F&F 12 MTHS // Though it shows that this will expire in 3 months for me
I'll say don't abuse... don't know how you'll make use of this, but GL!

Obviously you can get Sero thru anyone at Sprint including tech if they are willing to apply the codes for you. :) It's simple, the rub is talking them to DO it.
The fact is for the people willing and able to get a employee referral, it's easy to call employee accounts with that info and get signed up. That's what I did and it took me FIVE minutes on the first try using the above procedure to obtain Sero!!!!

Sero referral's. Technically Sprint reps are not allowed to set people up with Sero, without a referral from a Sprint employee that is verified. Plus employee accounts is the only dept. thats authorized (technically) to set up Sero accounts.
Apparently some of the csr's regardless of their dept., are given enough slack by their supervisors to set up Sero accounts for whoever they see fit.

Those of you that have managed to recently pull off the switch... were you able to use one of the promo addresses like holiday@sprint.com while talking to Employee Accounts, or was someone's actual email address required?
I'm on F&F 400 with free m2m and 300 SMS/month (although I can't find any trace of this on Sprint.com yet, go figure), and provided I can keep those two freebies, SERO is looking pretty nice.
