View Full Version : Vision on Power Vision phones

Hello folks,

I have the Vision Pack for free on my account. I am up for a new phone in March (currently have a sanyo 4920 which I love but I saw the 8400 today and I think it's great)

So question: if I get the 8400, which is a PowerVision phone, would I be able to use regular Vision instead? IE to take advantage of my current free Vision Pack?

Thanks!

Nope. PV phones have to be set up on a PV plan.

That's a bummer. What might be a good Vision phone to get nowdays? My criteria are good reception/bettery primarily. But a good web browser would be great too. I currently use Opera on the Sanyo 4920. Thanks!

He's Right. I Have The Katana And It's A Great Vision Phone. No Extra Bells Or Whistles But The Bluetooth Works Flawlessly With My Headset. I'd Sure Give It A Look. I Know I'm Not Sorry For Buying It.

Interesting question.... what is the difference?
I just got a PPC-6700 and I was supposed to get free PV with it....
however when I check my account online... i just have unlimited Vision???? what's going on?

How's the battery life and reception quality on it? As an engineer, I believe that everything in design is a sacrifice. Katana was clearly engineered to look cool and be a toy - so I would assume this might come at the expense of other things. My Sanyo 4920 was the other way - style and looks were sacrificed for good reception and excellent battery life.

So how do you find your Katana? How often do you charge it? How's the signal strength?

Thanks!

Hello Dragonman... I am wonderying why you say this. When I posted this question here, I also mailed it to e-care. Here's the money quote from the response:

The vision plans are available to be used with power vision phones but your Vision plans would not cover Video and TV.

So it sounds like you're incorrect?

Sting23ray - I would advise you to dial *2 and get an answer out of Sprint rather than from the forum. If they say you only have Vision - i.e. no video or TV is included in the plan - point out to them that you were promissed Power Vision and see what they can do about it.

BTW - when you say free PV, did you mean for a month or forever? If later, how did you pull it off? :)

Disagree, sorta.

Vision will WORK on PV phone, yes. But you cannot sign up for vision on a PV phone or switch to a PV phone and keep your previous vision plan when switching.

Nope, you can most definitely keep your vision plan when switching to a PV phone. Just specify an ESN switch.

Well yeah, what can't P2K do. I got nailed. But not every rep has p2k access.

Unfortunate truth. Just gotta be careful to word your request carefully with the CSR.

Wrong...

You can, like many others, buy a new phone...Call to do an ESN Swap, and cleary state that you do NOT wish to make ANY changes to your plan, that you ONLY want to change the phone.

I have done this on two phones that exist on my father's account, and four of the five phones on my account.

Neither, I'm a consumer who has learned a bit of how to navigate the web of Sprint CSR from this forum.

EDIT: I don't think most Sprint reps intend to be "bad", or ignorant. But I do believe, from my view as an outsider, that training is seriously lacking.

Well, according to the ecare2 rep, I CAN. But not I hear all this other business in the thread. Can't I just get a new phone and keep my plan identical?

Yes, you absolutely can. When you call in, ask the rep if s/he has access to a program called "p2k" and then ask for an "ESN Swap". Accept nothing else.

Obliark
01-28-2007, 01:21 PM
ryatziv, it is because things change very quickly with little communication.. And xyz, when you call do the switch, before you start, ask the rep if he has p2k access or can keep the plan, if he says no to you, try again you will get someone who has the capability to do it for you as long as you're vision plan is still offered by sprint (remains in the system). **EDIT** If you're on a retentions zero plan, csr will not be able to re-add it, and ask to speak with that department again.

I understand this. Like now, when I call *2, I sometimes get asked which store I work at. I want to keep up with Sprint's internals, so I follow this and other forums. Unfortunately, it seems that in order for a Sprint rep to keep up, s/he can't trust management.

Obliark
01-28-2007, 01:28 PM
Let me tell you why you get asked that then if you like knowing :).
Store reps usually have a special line that connects them to a Missouri or Tenessee location where the calls are answered, sometimes though we get consumer overflow calls that show up as stores on the phone box, and we have to ask for store ID :) This is because we don't only take calls from sprint stores, but from dealers like Costco or radioshack that can sometimes promise customers things we need to keep track of.

I had unlimited vision on my account. Two days ago i activated a samsung A920

They give you one free month of PV... vision and access power vision are the same price (15$$) so Just ask a rep to switch you to free PV... they might do it.

Presently I have a treo 650 with free vision (I have the professional pack with the free Business Connection PE).

If I buy my own treo 700p an do the ESN switch via P2K and request to keep my plan unchanged (in effect keep same vision plan) will I:
- Still not be charged for data?
- be able to access the EvDO with no charge?
- or will I be limited to the older 1rtt network?

their are three tiers, correct.

power vision access
power vision plus
power vision ultimate

Evdo = power vision

Through sprint.com should tell you what you have.. probably access.

The statement in bold is not exactly true either. I had a free month of Vision on my phone a couple of months ago. The 7400 has a Media Player so I decided to check it out. I had access to NFL Network and one of the news channels. After I discovered that, I decided to call up *2 and find out if it was free or if I just screwed myself. It turns out those channels were included with the plan.

I canceled before the month was up and when I got my bill, I looked over the Vision portion and it said something like, "VisionblahblahblahWITHSPRINTTV".

My wife just got a blue Katana - she loves it, finally ditched her old Samsung N400 <insert dinosaur sound here>. To me the default font on web sites is a bit on the small side. She likes now being able to send real SMS, take/send pics like the rest of the family.

I just bought a Treo 755p off Ebay and want to do an ESN swap with my existing Treo 650. I have a "newer" Vision Pictures plan for $15 which includes unlimited text messaging I believe. Is it still possible to do the ESN swap in P2K nowadays? Basically I just want to switch over phones, be able to get EVDO speeds but I don't need any of the frills of PV. Any other options I should be considering?

Please tell me I can keep my free vision. I don't care about the Tv or music crap. Anyone know if this is still possible with theis p2K software?

Just call *2 and ask to do an esn swap. Thats it. They may ask if you want to switch to a power vision plan but all you have to do is say no I dont want my plan changed.

I agree, am a trainee csr at sprint... and darn it, my trainer stinks... all he knows to tell us, is go to KMS...

sprint should seriously try to evaluate their trainers before they have them handle a class... :(

Hi! No need to ask the rep if he has access to p2k, all csr's have premiere access... Just tell the csr that you want to have an esn swap... it'll only take about 8 mins max... :D atleast if you get the really good ones... :D
