I'm going to upgrade my phone next month and I was thinking about getting a Treo 700p, as I'm a lifelong Palm user from the first 512k model that came out. I've currently got a Palm TX and was going to sell it and put the money towards the Treo 700p but it looks like I'll probably only get about $150 out of my TX and accessories which is only about half or less then what I'm going to have to pay for the Treo 700p and some accessories.
So I thought that instead I'd simply get a phone with bluetooth DUN capabilities and tether my TX through it for internet and mail use.
So questions:
#1. I assume that to get EVDO speeds from my phone through the BT DUN to the Palm TX I have to get a phone that uses the Power Vision plan? If I get a phone that's "Vision" only then it will not have access to EVDO for data?
#2. If a get a phone that is EVDO capable will the BT DUN connection from the phone support EVDO speeds to the device on the other end, in this case the Palm TX?
#3 This all assumes that I can get a phone from Sprint that is capable of BT DUN in the first place?
Thanks for any and all help. If this information is indeed in a FAQ then just pat me on my bald little head and point me to it. :tu:

1. You will not get full EVDO speeds even if you get Power Vision unless both your Palm device and phone have Bluetooth 2.0 - earlier Bluetooth tops out at 768k on a good day, which is still quite fast. Just don't expect to get the full capability of the Power Vision with older bluetooth. That being said, I actually have a setup like this using a WM5 PDA and my Power Vision phone and for mobile content and even streaming, it has plenty of speed (PDA = Bluetooth 1.2). So, I would still get a Power Vision phone - you will notice a huge difference even if you only get half the possible speed of the EVDO.
2. I guess I sort of combined 1 and 2.
3. Most of the Sprint phones (with bluetooth) will let you do this. The "correct" way to do this is to purchase the add-on Phone as Modem (PAM) plan. If you want to take a risk and 'bypass' that, I would get a Samsung phone, as those allow you to disable NAI via a debug menu (search the forum for info about "disable NAI" to see what this is about)
I am personally using the Samsung M610, which has power vision as well as Bluetooth 2.0, and I am very happy with the speed of a tethered device (my PDA)

I'm using a Samsung M500 and a Palm Tungsten E2 via BT DUN and it works just fine.

Tom, I've got the same phone as you and a Palm TX, which should be a similar version of the Palm OS as your PDA, but I can't get my PDA to go online through my phone. How did you set yours up?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

After I paired my phone and Palm, I went to the Perferences App and then the Connection menu under the Communication section.
On the Available Connections screen I selected the New... button.
I named the connection M500 and then selected the following:
Connect to: Phone
Via: Bluetooth
Device: I selected my phone
Model: Univ Phone Driver
Then I went to the Network settings and set up a Service called Sprint: with the following:
User Name: left it blank
Password: left it blank
Connection: Pick my M500 connection that I set up
Phone: #777

Tom

I tried that on my Treo to my Fusic. I can get internet radio to work through Ptunes, but I cant get it to work on the web. It worked one time at very satisfactory speeds, but ever since nothing. I tried reboot both the Treo and the Fusic. I'm just boggled the Ptunes works, but the web doesn't. (I do have PAM).
