I only charged it until it said it was finished charging, maybe 2 hours. Will this make a difference in it's charging capabilities? if so, any way to remedy that? (i have the sanyo 8400).
Nope. The Battery Can Only Charge Up Until It's Done. Anything Past That Is A Waste Of Electricity. What You Should Do Maybe Is Run The Battery All The Way Down First Then Charge It Up.

you did the first part correct.gave it a full charge.you are probably thinking of things like cordless phones that take a insane amount of time to charge the first time.SempreGatto is correct on the next part.run the phone all the way down.push the threshold past the low battery signal just a bit.this is what establishes the length of run time(for that model).do this over the next several cycles and you are good to go.use this senero for your laptops also.

ah! thanks so much guys, i'll do that. : ) there was a slip that came with the phone that said: IMPORTANT, MAKE SURE TO CHARGE YOUR PHONE FOR 24 HOURS BEFORE USE. Seemed like a bit much. lol.

Nightly charging will reduce the lifespan of your battery. The cells are only designed to handle a given number of charge cycles at full capacity. If memory serves I think it's like 500 before they top out at 85% original capacity level. My wife used to keep her phone on the charger all the time, thinking that it would last longer. After about a year, she was lucky to get 45 min. of talk time out of it.
I usually run my down close to the end, but it's more from forgetting that my battery is low than anything else. :)

thats a myth from the old NiCad battieries that really had a "memory" of bad charges and misuse and not being conditioned
these LiLon battiers are not subject to that. now as for running down completely, that is bad for any battery.
but you don't have to "condition" a LiLon battery.

Like Reemusk said above me.. you are actually harming your batteries more than helping them.
Lithium Ion batteries do better charging every night than they do getting run down.

In other words, just charge your battery whenever necessary. :)

I did not charge my batter when I first got it. I do charge it when it needs it. I'm doing OK I guess.

Battery's normal life is about a year to a year and a half.. IF you get longer life...thats awesome......but Lithium Ion batterys love to be charged.

I never fully charge mine right when I get it. I pull it out of the box, pop in the battery, and as long as it's not saying the battery is low and I should charge it, I go ahead and call to activate it, and then I play with it until it gets mad at me and tells me to charge the battery.
You won't be hurting it any by not charging it. I've never heard of the 24 hour thing, though. All of the phones that I've had have come with the paper that says to charge the battery fully before I use it.

actually the only thing that will affect the lifespan of your battery is about 3 things.
1. Extreme heat can damage the battery reducing lifespan. (cars in the summertime)
2. Letting the battery die pass the threshhold of where the phone will turn itself off. (Meaning after your phone batt has died, and you let it die some more after that)
3. The actual shelf life of the li-ion battery itself.
other than that, wierd charging cycles wil not affect the life of the battery. Even if you charge it over night.
