When I first got my Katana (black), I was discouraged with the fact that my ringtones were not as loud as the ones already in the phone. I was missing calls and all types of ****. So I finally scoured the forums and found that if you are making you ringtones:

Before you continue to save the WAV file and proceed to convert to QCP, adjust the AMPLIFY settings. If you are using WavePad, its the first option under the Effects menu. I, myself, actually adjust the volume to 300% (or triple volume) and I am very very satisfied with my phone now.

So there goes. The sound quality thru my phone is fine. Its not static-like. If I was not able to figure this out, I woulda returned or switched my phone!

Depends on the ringer though. I have one that sounds like crap after amplifying because there is a lot of eletric guitars in the ringtone.

I have a question though. Can you set a voice memo as a ringer on the Katana? I don't have the phone personally so I have no idea all the features.

most downloaded ringers suck on the katana. its just the way it is. it would do no good to switch to another katana all of them are like that, if you want to do a thirty day exchange, go to another phone.

What format is your WAV in? In the past I converted the MP3 to WAV in 8-bit mono. Don't know if this is mandatory, or if a different format/spec might work better/

I found out last night it has to be 8000 kHz, 16 bit mono. 8 bit distorted and was unrecognizable.

let's say I have an mp3 I would like to convert for a ringtone. 2 suggestions I have had for using it is to convert with a qcp converter, or use tonethis.com

which is better? if I use the converter, how would I get the tone to my phone? How would I get the best sound quality?

This is a known issue with the Katanas. I have multiple customers coming in saying ringers from Sprint are way to low on the Katana. The stock ringers are great but the dled one are to low. Multiple calls to tech support and CS have come back empty. I am told it is a known issue with no fix. And not estimated time on when a fix will be available. The rep even admitted she had a katana and was angry that there wasn't a fix because she was having the same problem.

I just switched from an 8200 and was aggravated at how low the ringers were. I had the volume turned up all the way under settings and the ringers weren't worth using.

This is something I stumbled across, don't know if anyone else posted this or not, but I though i'd pass it along.

For the downloaded ringers, go to your ringers and play one. While it is playing, use the external up and down keys (which on my old phone only controled the earpiece volume) and turn up the volume. As soon as you do this you will see that the screen switched to sound volume and that it was set low.

The ringers that could almost not be heard on the phone now have a pretty decent volume.

i haven't had an issue -- although the speaker gets covered easier than some.

I got the phone for my wife - she puts it in her purse and even the stock tones are way to low. I have a Razr V3m and the stock tones are twice as loud.
