i've been searching and i aplogize for the double post. i just don't understand why this can't be done. it seems dumb not to have it work, but it doesn't. i just can't stop thinking that there's already a preloaded one in there so there has to be a way. can't we just edit the file that's there, or figure out the format and create our own. i don't know.......

there's always work arounds....the manual isn't written in stone as the only thing that can be done. I used to have nextel and i know you can do stuff that wasn't in the manual. is there anyone that's is willing to help me and not just treat me like a noob. what a tool.

don't know about the fusic, but the m1 can use GIFs, no need to convert. just upload your GIF image using an uploader.

is this for wallpaper or screensavers.... becuase i think everyone wants animated wallpaper like the music wallpaper supplied with the M1.

01-01-2007, 11:57 AM
D3r3k is right, i'm speaking of uploading my own animated wallpapers....there are two the come preloaded on the phone so i know that the phone can handle them. what's the format of the preloaded screensavers that are one the phone (Sprint Animation and Music Animation)? If we knew that format couldn't we make our own animations in that format and put them on the M1? I think it would be easily done if we knew the format of the preloaded material.

I have been wondering the same thing. I know it has to be possible since there are preloaded animated screensavers. Someone is bound to figure it out. Also cool info on the Sprint Developer page and I wonder how good the Sprint Uploader works. Good to see they have one.

ok i've tried this program and so far no luck...never used this program before but it looks pretty straight forward so far.

I've file transferred via the usb cable and used OTA uploaders....it shows the animation as a preview in .pmd format but only can set as standby, etc....

I tried renaming the file extension and it didn't like that either...

Will keep brainstorming but if anyone has any experience w/ this program and would like to shed some tips, please do.

They must be in PMD format. CMX is the software to be used.

mrchainsaw612

HOWTO: Making PMD animations from GIF files Step one: download:

http://www.faithwestinc.com/tdl/getcmx.htm <- CMX software should be available there, also this version may be newer than the version I wrote this tutorial on, but should still be accurate for the most part.

and http://www.ulead.com/ga/trial.htm that free trial of ulead gif animator.

Step one point five: Install the two programs

Step two: Open ulead GIF animator

Step three: open the file

Now you have the file open.

Step four: Extract the frames from the GIF animation

Now with the name you choose it will make that name and lable each frame differntly with a 1, 2, 3, ect.

Step five: Open CMX studio

Step six: Add images

Step seven: Once you have added your images you drag and drop them to the below timeline:

Step seven: Export to PMD file:

Write your file name:

Step eight: Upload the file to your private files and you are done!!!

I've been playing with this program for 2 weeks now and tried all the versions even... I give up...It's someone elses turn now to chew on this. lol.

Haven't tried it. I'm perfectly happy with jpegs. Though it's the same program as before, with an additional on to separate the images in gifs in order to place them in the original program. Should work. Adobe Image ready would work to separate the images too.

I have just started using the software and have been successfully able to upload an animated picture with no sound to my phone (Samsung A920). My phone has the same chipset as your M1 a Qualcomm 6550.

The software is essentially a drag and drop. First you have to insert an item. Use the "Insert" menu and it will allow you to insert stuff. Then select the tab of what you want, for instance if you want a photo, you would click on the "Image" in the Resources window. Click on it and drag it to the time line. Repeat for every thing else.

You will not be able to edit any of the images in the program, it will need to be edited prior to inserting into the CMX Studio. If you were to insert a GIF file, it would separate it into frames under the "Image" tab.

I used this site: http://pcs.cruz-network.net/index.php because it states that it can handle pmd files, and it did. I am in no way affiliated with it, nor do I vouch for its safety and privacy. It states that it does not store nor sell any information.

When the file was downloaded, my phone recognized it as a screensaver and was able to play it back correctly.

Laursifer said that she couldnt locate where animations/themes were and thought they were loaded up to your phone when needed. The developer page says something similar. One of the themes is a megabyte in size and the other shows no properties.

If this was directed to me.

I do not have an M1.

I have a Samsung A920 but it has the same Qualcomm chipset as your M1.

I posted this because I was able to created a moving screensaver for my A920 and use it. Something that the Sprint website says my phone cannot do.

With what are you using to upload the files to the phone? I used an uploader that stated that I could handle pmd files and when I directed my phone to the download, I knew where to put it and how to handle it.

Hi XXXX,

I'm sorry, but the only pictures that you will be able to set as screen savers are jpg's that are in the "in phone" folder in your phone. the "in phone" folder does not recognize gifs when they are located in the DCIM/100SANYO folder, and this is the only place where you can set "set as" pictures as screen savers.

The screen savers are small programs that run in the "my content" space on your phone, and those can only be downloaded.

Thank you for your question.

The Sanyo M1 has one animated screensaver preloaded to the phone. How do I get my personal pmd's and gif's to work as screensavers? I am only able to assign them as a standby, outgoing, or signal searching animations. Is the Sprint screensaver in the phones memory or loaded from Sprints server? I would appreciate some information. Thanks
