View Full Version : Cancelling the primary line on a shared minute plan

I have an old retention plan with 5 lines (2500 min for $100 with free Vision/SMS). Two of my subs are still under contract, and everyone else is contract free. I'm thinking of cancelling my primary line (actually, I want to port that number to Cingular), so what I'd like to do is make one of the numbers under contract my primary line and keep everything else the same. It's not that easy, it turns out-- I called cancellations (retentions) and they say that if I do that, it constitutes a plan change for the sub that becomes primary and renews that contract. Even worse, the new Primary line doesn't get free Vision, since it's not offered by the current plans.

So frustrating! Seems like they should just be able to swap phone numbers without any hassles. Anyone have any ideas?

What would happen to my sub accounts if I just simply ported my primary line to Cingular? Would they automatically convert to no-plan accounts (and get charged per minute used)? Is that a violation of their contract? Is there any plan they could go onto that doesn't renew their contracts?

if you removed your primary plan from your lines the remaining lines would then be automatically put on a 40 cents per minute rate, which if you are not planning on using those phones at all then you could just stuff them into a drawer untill thier contract runs out... but using them would be expencive... if you want to be able to use them it would in fact require a plan change locking you into another 2 year contract and yes you would have to either be placed on a current retention plan or one of the regular plans...
