Now that my M1 is here anybody got any suggestions on what to cover it with? Leather case or Body glove style?

So I ordered mine and in theory it'll be here on Friday. Does anyone know of any holders for cars? Ones that'll sit in the cupholder and hold the phone with the screen open? It'd be useful for when I'm using it in navigation mode. Any links or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

I'm gonna stick this thread, too. You want an accessory for the M1? Sweet, ask about it here. You have an accessory you like a lot? Sweet, discuss it here.

I need a case a really bad. The one accessory I love is a Logitech Stereo BT Headset that I purchased on woot.com for $20. They were being sold for iPod users as it comes with an iPod BT adapter and although I have an iPod I really wanted them for the M1 so I bought them like two months ago and it was the best thing I did because they work great with my M1.

I hope they come out with a swivel holster so I can clip it to my belt or front pants pocket like I have for the 9000. However, it would have to have a opening in back for the camera lense though, so I'm not sure that'll work......

I would like to have it swivel but the leather case instead of the holster cause I think is more secure the case than the holster

why do people ask "if"? ...Sprint makes a holster, leather case, and car charger for EVERY phone they sell.

well i just asked cause i know it uses the standard sanyo barrel car charger and i know there's a leather case availible but i hate those. Only asked if because Sprint made one for the a900,a920 and fusic but nothing for the krzr m1 or m610 yet, more wondering when then if because when i had a fusic when it came out the holster was availible that day at the sprint store already

SAME here I don't want to cover the front of the phone, I bought long time a holster case @ ebay and use only the back cause didn't want to cover the front of my 7400 and it works perfect, let's if I can get something similar
Pocket FTW, but, I use the Jabra BT620s with my M1, and they're quite solid. a little on the lower volume side, but, I'm recharging them, so it may have just been that. (I got my phone today, and had used them around the house for Raids(eq2)/general music) and... they're quite warm on a cold Chicago day =D

Hopefully Sprints M1 holster doesn't scratch the heck out the phone like other Sprint holsters. I would like a holster that has the phone face out and that you don't need to take it out of the holster to answer a call but I'm sure Sprint won't have one like that.

Me too. The best holster I ever was the plastic clip for the VM4500. I'd love one of thoose for the M1. As soon as I find a quality belt clip, my M1 will be complete.
Of course, Sprint says they don't have any yet.

Something I discovered...M1 was made in China (hmmm) and my sanyo MM-9000 was made in Japan. When I got my M1 last week I was dissapointed in the built quality and quickly returned it to Sprint. I am not knocking China BUT when you buy these cheap little toys for kids at Wall Mart ..MADE IN CHINA...life span for these toys are very short...hmmmmDidn't you make your fair share of negative comments about the M1 and now your getting a case for the M1.

So theres alot about holsters... I am most likely getting my M1 asap, I know I have read that it comes with the basic sanyo barrel charger... I know you can get the clip style charger for other sanyo phones, is there one of these out yet or will there be one in the near future? I have never been a fan of the barrel chargers. I know early this year my 7300 barrel was gone to the point that no matter what I did it wouldnt charge (I had to position it properly to get it to charge for a month or so prior to this) so I just picked up a clip charger and no problems since. got one for the car and for the room. Anything about a clip charger for it? anything out or anything planned?

12-22-2006, 07:30 PM
It works fine with the USB port (clip) charger that all Sanyos have used since the 4900. The USB cable that comes with the phone even charges it, a Sanyo first from the factory.

I dropped my M1 over the weekend twice on the concrete, it can wistand a pretty good hit but when it gets hit or scratch on the silver part of the phone it flakes up black and it looks nasty, but I got some silver nail polish that matched up with the silver to cover up the black, and know I can live with it.

Aaaarg...the site of dropping a phone gives me the creeps....the M1 is somewhat of a slippery phone so the best thing is to protect it well especially if you spent full price for the phone....my 9K after one year still looks brand new....WHY? Protected with a nice case.

Yeah I'm scare to drop mine everytime I grab it is like I'm grabbing a baby, that's why I want to get the case , I hope the stores bring it soon or @ least some other place but not the one that have elastic on top cause I don't like that type of case, right now I got one on the flea market but universal pretty good for $5.00 and sturdy but is a pouch just put the phone and that's it, with the case if you drop it @ least is more protective than without it, sorry about your drop

I would be eager to find out if they come out with a Sport Body Glove for it. I am waiting for the case to come in (most likely backorder), but I did receive my M1 last week and my ext. battery today. The phone was worth the wait, in my opinion, and it is a suitable replacement for my 5500. The battery is a little big but not worth fussing over, especially if it gives 6+ hours of talk time.

You know by now, I should have a digital camera to do stuff like that :) I have to wait for my sister to lend me her LG to take some pics and upload them.
If you take the standard battery and add about a 1/2 cm to the depth, that would describe it. It's nice because you can set your phone down, and it raises the camera lens off the surface (preventing scratches).

You got that right, I didn't think in that before cause every time I put my phone I have to watch for scratches and the camera and with that battery it would be safe, I should get my ext. battery tomorrow, it's on her way, bought it @ ebay.

I know it's not designed specifically for the M1, but I'm looking more for that kind of style case/pouch rather than something that stays on the phone. I'd look into a holster designed to fit the M1, but I want to keep it covered while it's on my belt because I tend to bump things with it, and don't want the face to get scratched up from that.

You're right, Zuro. I just bought a case at the store near me. . . tried to get it on carefully, but because the ext. battery is so thick, it split the thin leather near the volume button. $32.18 down the drain. . . store better take it back.
If anyone has some good suggestions for a case for the M1 with ext. battery, I would love to know where to go.

I just got this case for my M1 last week. I am VERY happy with it so far. The M1 fits 'snugly'. While it's very easy to get out, it does not feel like it's going to fall out on its own. The clip does not rotate, so it's always at a good angle. I don't know how it will last, but since I spent all of $8, including shipping if it lasts a year I'll call it a bargain and buy another one.

I'd love to see photos of the phone inside this clear case. I have a clear polycarbonate cover for my Sandisk Sansa that works great. I would hope that this would be similar.
Question. Does snapping this on the phone mar the finish of the phone at all? Also, is the little "star" nub for the belt clip removable or do you have to have it on if you use the belt clip or not? That's what I hate about some of the cases. I don't use a belt clip, so I'd want to go without the nub that fits inside the belt clip.
My dad also has the M1 and just bought the OE leather case. The case seems fine (not too bulky), but it looks like you'd destroy the case if you removed the belt clip piece from the leather. I'd strongly consider the case if I could.

That looks like a good case however it doesn't look like it will help with the marks on the front from the hinge pad. The marked area is above where the front cover will attach...

LOL im too lazy to mess with skins so I put a couple of skinny strips of clear tape there to keep it from scratching.

I dont remember telling anyone to do as I do. I didnt notice any scratches until others had mentioned it. I would guess dirt or whatever abrassives get caught in the grooves of the rubber, scratch it. What else would it be?

No, it's not necessary, but if you don't want scratches on the front face of your phone from the rubber/plastic hinge pad, it will help. If you aren't getting any scratches, you're lucky. I get them the first day I got the phone.

Can you tell me better so I can double check, how I'm gonna get the scratches is rubber/plastic in that hinge pad, I don't even noticed or I'm blind , have to look
Those of us getting the marks are in this area shown by the arrows (click on picture). The marks occur because the front face of the phone rests against the rubber/plastic pad. The finish on this phone is very susceptible to scratches/marks.

How long have you had your phones? I've had mine for about 3 weeks now and don't see any signs of scratches even in bright sunlight. I did notice that there is blue metalflake in the paint though, which is pretty cool. I thought that it was just straight black.
Anyway.. I checked my dad's phone today and don't see any scratches on his either. He's had his for a month now. He also has the M1 leather case and noticed that the case doesn't do anything to prevent these scratches from happening if they are going to happen.
I've never been a fan of the leather cases after the leather case on one of my phones discolored the plastic on a Samsung phone that I had. The phone got more damage from the leather case than when it was out of the case.

I have the Plantronics Voyager 510 (love it!) and I'm currently trying out the Motorola HT820 stereo headset. Both work beautifully with the M1, though I can't stand the fit of the HT820's on my head. Fantastic range though. I can set my phone down on my kitchen table and walk all around the main floor of my 2,500 sqaure ft. 2-story colonial with both sets.

Are the scratches really bad looking? I can't tell in the digital photo.
I wonder if putting screen protector plastic over that part of the phone would help? Like I said, the OE leather case won't help because it doesn't cover the hinge part. it just floats over the top of that area.

So, the star thingy belt clip attachment doesn't come off then? How does it feel without the belt clip on it? Any rough edges? I think that I could do some surgury with a dremel tool on that. It looks easier to remove than removing the one from the leather case.
I see that it clips on. How well does it fit and go on? Does it look like the plastic would do any damage to the phone snapping it on? That's the one last thing that I'm leery of. I had a leather case do more damage to a phone than protecting it.

How long have you had it on the phone? It doesn't leave any kinds of marks on the phone?
The last phone that I had was a silver Samsung flip phone and the leather case left black marks embedded in the finish, especially on the battery from the battery heating up inside the leather case. That's why I'm a bit leery of the leather case.
I agree that the M1 leather case from the Sprint store is pretty nice and it doesn't add any heft. The only thing that I really don't like about it is the belt clip nub since I don't use it. My dad has the case, but he's only had it for about a week now and his phone has seen light use at best, so I can't really get a guage on what it will or won't do to the phone's finish.
Are the scratches really bad looking? I can't tell in the digital photo.

Anything but the clear would look a bit goofy on the M1 though because the hinge area is not covered and you'd see the silver trim in that area. The colored cases would look much nicer on the Fusic because it covers more of the phone. I think that the clear is definitely the best for the M1 IMO.
Now.. I wish that they'd offer one without the damn belt clip attachment. That's the one thing keeping me from pulling the trigger on it. I have a similar clear case for my Sandisk Sansa mp3 player and it's so nice without anything on the back of it.

You are correct to day they are all the same price, even after the "sale" Great tips thank you!
Cool beans. Again, I would recommend this site/company. They have always been pretty good to me, and the prices reasonable. The only one thing that was weird, is everything I've always ordered, less than a day later, I would get this email letting me know that my item is being shipped, BUT from their "overseas" warehouse, or something of that nature. Weird. The customer service though, is really good.

Why would you want the universal charger? The sanyo flat charger would be your best bet. the pin charger will probably eventually become loose and non-functional. sanyo has had a lot of problems in the past with these type of chargers.

I havne't seen the pin chargers for a while now. I don't think that they make them any more for some reason. The chargers that hook up to your com port do the same thing as the other chargers. As a matter of fact, if you plug your phone into the USB port via the com port, it also charges the phone.

The iGo chargers come with your choice of tips, either the flat or the pin one. Most of my customers take the pin one, just because it will fit more phones. Myself, I would definitely take the flat one. It just has a much more secure feel when connected to the phone.

I have to agree with you there. For some reason it just looks cheap. Also it would be nice if they would provide a few shots of the holster with the phone in it. Something that shows where it clips onto the phone at the top. We all know the M1's paint job doesn't seem to be that durable up there as it is. A holster clipping on can't help that too much.

Well you can tell easily that it just grabs the upper hinge, but since I just put an invisible shield on there I don't think it should be too much of an issue... Besides if the holster is only $4 + shipping, is it really a big deal if it only lasts 3 months? I've had to replace all my holsters at least once or twice a year...

If you mess up the installation, can you reinstall it easily? Do you have any photos of your M1 with the invisibleshield installed? I saw some photos of it on a black ipod and it looked a bit sketchy. I guess how good it looks depends on the installation?

If you apply it correctly it looks good. I will take some pics of my M1 and my nano when I get home, there were a couple spots where it didn't look as good as it could, but like I said if you do it right it's fine. Also, there are a few small bubbles after installation that even out within a few days, so if those pictures were taken soon after installation they may not be a true representation of the quality of the product.

Bestskinsever seems to have a similar product for a lot less money. The problem is that they don't have a pre-cut kit for the M1 as of yet. The only problem that I see with the InvisibleShield product is that I hear that by the time people get good at putting these things on, the plastic gets a bit bad looking. I don't want to ruin a $25 kit. I'm thinking about buying the Invisible Shield kit and then buying the universal kit from bestskinsever and then using the Invisible Shield kit as a template to create a kit out of the cheaper bestskinever kit. That way it would give me a something to practice with and I might end up with an extra kit out of it.
For those of you that bought the Invisible Shield kit, do you think that I could easily make another kit out using the kit as a template? I haven't seen what the Invisible Shield kit looks like. Does it come on a square sheet of paper with out the outline of the product or do the pieces come cut out so I can trace around them onto another kit before you take them off from their backing to install the product?

So they come pre cut stuck to square glossy sheets then or can you trace around them? So it's not something that I can trace around before removing it from the backing sheet?
Well.. The FAQ at Bestskinsever says that they are the same quality and from what I've heard, they are similar if not the same product. The people on the Sandisk Sansa (my mp3 player) forums seem to really like the bestskinsever product. I think this is all the same stuff (made by 3M) that they make invisible car bras out of. Not sure though.
I don't care about spending $25 on the skins, but I don't want to buy it twice if I screw up the first skin trying to install it.

Google has a list of vendors that they deal with for GCO. I found out that daydeals used google checkout when I went to check out.
The only similarity to PayPal is that it's an intermediary between you and the vendor. It's designed to simplify your purchases and make it safer. You use your credit card and it gets charged to google and then google pays the vendor. The charge on your card says google.
It's easy to use. I've made several purchases with GCO and even had to return something via GCO.

That's it. You had to pay tax because daydeal is in CA. I'm in Chicago and didn't have to pay tax.
$4 is still a steal for this case.
BTW.. I just noticed that there is a case that daydeal sells for $11 and Best (Average) Buy has the same case for $24. This clear case would probably be $25 at Best Buy if they sold it. Just keep that in mind. Just because it's inexpensive at daydeal, doesn't mean that it's cheap.

Okay here are the pics of the Sanyo M1 with the full body invisibleSHIELD. I improperly installed the external LCD part and a couple of other places, so I removed those. However battery, entire back of phone (minus camera), bottom of phone, top of M1 on sides, front near the speakerphone, and main LCD are all covered. The parts I removed the cover from were the sides of the top flip and the bottom half of top flip (around the external LCD)... you can tell in the picture for the most part. I will say though that before I removed them the phone was covered great, I dropped it on my driveway and there were ZERO SCRATCHES. I only removed those parts because I applied them wrong and there were bubbles. You will notice that I applied the other parts correctly, however, and there are no bubbles or imperfections. Also, if you notice any edges or dust in the pictures, it is due to the flash of the camera. In real life it is a seamless look. I am particularly impressed with the fit of the back cover, I can't even tell it's there. I feel very secure with this cover on, and I plan on reordering just the LCD shield so that I can re-apply the external LCD cover. It feels naked! :p
Hope this helps.

I just realized it's kind of hard to see in the last photo, like I said the entire top (from below the "Sanyo" label and all the way up around the hinge) is covered. This prevents the scratches from the bad hinge design. You can tell I have the cover on there, but as I said the cover is not on the part below the Sanyo logo, and I'm reordering that section so I can apply it correctly.

Nice job and pics SeaCow! Is it possible to actually use the invisibleSHIELD as a template to create your own skin from a blank sheet?
SeaCow
02-22-2007, 12:21 AM
I wouldn't know. I SUPPOSE you could, but you won't get as accurate as a measurement. Plus, the edges won't be as clean cut. And I don't know how you'd line up your sheet with the template very well seeing as it's pretty hard to distinguish the backing from the shield, it's so transparent and thin.
dimm0k
02-22-2007, 12:27 AM
Hrmm... yeah, judging from the details of the skin on the top camera portion it does look to be a bit difficult to get it precise. When you say the skin covers the bottom of the phone, where exactly does that portion cover?
Also how big of a drop did you have when you dropped the phone in your driveway? Was it smooth concrete?
SeaCow
02-22-2007, 12:30 AM
It was jagged, crappy old driveway. I dropped it from about 5 feet in the air, face first, right onto a rock onto the external LCD. :) Zero. Scratches. That was before I took off the external screen cover though.
If you take a look at where your flat USB cord goes into the bottom of the phone, just below that is covered. The part that is in-between the edge of the battery and the flat bottom (where the plug is) of the phone. Basically the only parts that AREN'T covered with the full-body shield are the side buttons, no joke.

i ordered mine from daydeal but on ebay as it was cheaper. daydeal has their own ebay account. i think it took a week to get mine. i scraped off the black spongy stuff, this doesnt ruin the case as there is a nut behind the black stuff. then you need a small 4 pointed screw driver (a philips?) i had to press really hard as mine wanted to strip. i actually had to take a hammer and hit the screw driver into the hole since mine started to strip. i had the wrong size screwdriver. the case is kinda hard to snap onto your phone tho.

i ordered mine from daydeal but on ebay as it was cheaper. daydeal has their own ebay account. i think it took a week to get mine. i scraped off the black spongy stuff, this doesnt ruin the case as there is a nut behind the black stuff. then you need a small 4 pointed screw driver (a philips?) i had to press really hard as mine wanted to strip. i actually had to take a hammer and hit the screw driver into the hole since mine started to strip. i had the wrong size screwdriver. the case is kinda hard to snap onto your phone tho.
The best kind of screwdriver to use is those little electronic or jewelers screwdrivers if you have them handy. It worked perfectly. You just need to peel the black cover off enough to expose the screw head because once you unscrew it, everything comes off. I did it the hard way by carefully removing all the black sticky stuff first and then realized that it would've been much easier if I would've waited until I unscrewed it because everything that the black cover is on comes off when you unscrew the belt adapter.
These are the screwdrivers that I'm referring to. If you don't have a set, you should. It makes life so much easier because I'm always finding that I need to use one on something.

Thank you SeaCow for taking the time to take and post the photos. Your phone looks great! I think that's definitely the best way to go. The only problem that I have is that I'd love to avoid buying two kits for my phone if I install it wrong the first time. $25 is fine even though bestskinsever sells a similar product (they don't sell a kit for the M1 though) for about a fifth of the cost. The problem that I have is if you screw up and then have to buy the kit again, it's $50 for a cover and that's excessive IMO.

Oh I won't be buying the full shield again, I'm gonna get the external LCD cover only (They sell an internal/external lcd cover seperate for the m1)... If i had taken the time to apply it correctly the first time It would've been fine. When I did my iPod nano I did it correctly the first time. just take your time and it should be fine.

Cool. I think I'll get a little practice anyway. I just ordered the bestskinsever kit for my Sandisk Sansa. I should get good enough by doing that $6 kit first before attempting to apply the $25 kit on my M1.

finally got the clip and the dongle...clip is decent, same as posted above. It'll probably scratch my phone but I really dont mind since sooner or later it'll end up getting replaced anyway.
The dongle works well, I need a free copy of BlueSoleil though.........5MB wont last me too long.

i got my pink shield from daydeal today! yippee! no holster clip on this one and it has a little more protection by the hinge than the clear one, it also has an opening for the charm hole. the plastic is not hard but it doesnt look or feel like it will crack. its kinda flexible. much easier to get on than the clear one.
pictures to come....

i just noticed it gives a little more room for the pin battery cover to slide up so it doesnt hit the plastic. :D
i swear my m1 is a better camera than my camera is !!

the pink one has a big part that comes up toward the front flip. the clear one is just straight across?
