I've been a lurker for a long time and finally registered. Thanks to everyone for the great info.
I just wanted to get opinions on this deal I received from the retention department. I've been a Sprint customer for almost ten years and have paid my bills on time. That said, I've never had a plan with big minutes, so I'm not sure how valuable I am to them. After threatening to cancel, retention offered me:
- $250 off any phone
- 15% off Fair & Flexible 450
Should I try to fish for more? They wouldn't offer me any discounts on text messaging packages, so I told them I'd decide by the end of the week. I'd really like a discount on Power Vision or Phone-as-Modem. Would this be too hard to pull off or should I be happy with what they offered?

Even with that lower plan you should be offered much more then that. You really should make sure you are talking with retentions, we've discussed it before; you'll know in the first few mins if the rep will be helpful (usually male) or anal. I recently just upgraded my friends F & C 700 min fam plan which was $50 as a base and got this;
700 min F&F America 69.99
(of course 2nd line free)
3rd line Add a phone $0.00
Unlimited text $5.00 on 2 lines, 500 free text on 3rd
Unlimited power vision on all 3 lines for $10.00 each line
20% loyalty discount
--AND-- a PPC 6700 for $99 bucks
As a $50 base plan I was able to work with them on what we needed to utilize how much we needed to use the services, etc.
Call back and explain thats really what you need to stay with Sprint.

Its a pretty good deal..
remember, its hard to get a good deal on a phone AND a very good plan at the same time..is not impossible, but most reps wouldnt be willing to give you more options on the monthly plan if you already have a nice discount on a new phone..
i see you have the vm4500..so are you eligible for the two year rebate? if so, tell them you'd rather have something on your plan instead of a phone discount

I really think you deserve A LOT more if you've been with Sprint for 10 yrs. Most of us haven't even been with sprint for half that and we've been taken care of well. Ive had success doing the plan first, then after you've agreed to a plan you like, mention you need a new phone to utilize for work or a job after the plan is in place...

i would try that as well ^^^
and just try back and you will never know what you will get with a different rep

I am eligible. In my first (of two, so far) calls they only offered me the standard $150 discount, which I chuckled at. The offer was increased to $250. On the second call they wouldn't budge on the phone price, but offered the 15% off the service plan.

They will mention your rebate but it helps to have a specific phone model in mind when you call in. Tell them that only $150 off is not in your budget right now but you want to extend your contract (if the plan they offer is agreed to*) and see what they say. Having the model in mind of what you're after helps.

I agree^^ for that phone just being released it is FAIR, but I think the plan they offered is unfair.

well when you think about it a extra 100 is like having 10% for 2 years on that 50 plan but that is my thought

Ah, here's another twist. I just found a business card of an acquaintance at Sprint that I haven't talked to in years. His address still works on the SERO site. How do you think I should juggle this in with what retention already offered?

No no I agree. It still seems just so small for 10 years of service. The plan he was offered with the $250 off I think would be a little more fair with reduced prices on vision and/or texting, maybe not free but the $8 unlim text code or $10 Powervision code I don't think is out of the question. But I agree that the extra 100 off is generous and the goal is not to be greedy, just relatively fair.
--> I wouldn't mention SERO, thats a WHOLE different story. That's my 2 cents on that subject...

Do you think I should change to a SERO plan after I get the phone? Would that make my contract four years instead of two?
Scoot

no you would have to cancel your lines and switch to sero and only be in contract for 2 years
and getting it changed to sero is a hard thing to do lets stay on topic about what they are offering there is a sero thread you can read to get that info

Just to update, they've now offered 500 text messages for free and $10 unlimited Power Vision. Sounds quite fair now!
