Well i just got the 8400 at the begining of nov. I love the phone. Has everthing i want. All this M-1 talk has me thinking. Should i get a M-1 and sell the 8400? I wont be able to get any kind of discount or anything because i signed a new contract and all that jazz when i got the 8400.

If you bought it after Nov.4 you could take it back and cancel the 2 yr and then order one through rententions. Remeber you have 30 days on a phone and a plan ( i think).
I did this 2 yrs ago, my dad signed up a new contract in Dec 04, not a renewel and i got the 7400 and then I visited this site tying to find free ringtones and found info on the 5600 and took back the 7400 and waited for the 5600 to come out which was 3 months last in March.
It was worth the wait because i was able to get the 5600 for like 30 dollars more then the 7400. There is a big difference in those two phones.

per a few conversations with varying sprint reps, the 30 days restarts when you change to a different phone. so, theoretically, you could have a new phone every 29 days -- which we know won't happen since it takes much longer for sprint to come out with anything new.

as far as retail is concerned, 30 days is from the original date of purchase. it should say everything on the back of the receipt. i don't remember the last time i read that, though.

I too bought the Katana. I just sent it in to be replaced by the 8400.
Seems to me that the Katana is kinda boring. I went from an 8300 to it and was not overly impressed.
I guess I m not a "thin" phone type of guy. I am however anxiously awaiting the 8400.
I just hope to get a phone I can actually enjoy, meaning, not wanna get rid of anytime soon. You know one to keep around for 2 years or so.
So... I am gonna ask everyone to please not say how awsome the M1 is. It will make me want one. Please... :)

I am in a unique situation where i can get whatever phone with $150 instant rebate after only 1 year...
I am torn between the new M1 with the internal 1gig memory, vs the 8400 which will take up to a 2gig card (i think).
Someone sway me in the right direction to go as the 8300 is quite plain by comparison to these new phones!
Thanks

Do you want a girlie phone with mp3 controls on the outside (and a 2mp cam?) Or do you want a rugged manly phone that's practical and feels solid in your hands? Do what I did. Buy an 8400, an iPod, and a good camera and you'll be happy. I could never justify the M1 pricetag. Hope that helps.

You can't justify the M1 pricetag but you're telling him to go out and buy an ipod and a good camera to go along with the 8400? What kind of sense is that? An ipod and a "good camera" are far more expensive than the difference in price between the 8400 and the M1.
I have an 8400 and I'm going to try to get the M1. I don't think the 8400 is any more "manly" than the M1. The biggest things I'll miss about the 8400 is the color blue and the animations (aquarium, dinosaur and penguin. And yes...I have mine set to the "girlie" aquarium one if you're curious). I wonder if in the future I will miss the dim green glow of the keypad as well, but don't know.
The 8400 is a great phone, but its camera and camcorder are very poor. The M1 seems to be a big improvement.

the 8400 only takes up to a 1 gig card, unless there's been a change I'm not aware of.
[Now the Fusic...the Fusic's update allows it to read a 2 gig card]

if you need 2 gigs.. you need an ipod. .LOL
your not gonna listen to all 2 gigs even in one day.. or 2 days..
i dont understand how everyone is hung up on the 1 or 2 gig..
i personaly think even though you can use 2 gigs in the 8400 or fusic.. the phones themselfs arent worth it.. you loose allot from the M1... i mean allot..
Does anyone have an opinion about how easy it is to surf the web on an 8400 vs M1 vs Fusic?
I noticed the 8400 wasn't supported for the gmail application, for example, whereas the Fusic was. Wonder where the M1 stands on that.
And, it seamed easier to type on the Fusic, cause there was the 0/Next key you could hit if you wanted to quickly follow, for example, a 'b' with an 'a' and not wait for the letter choice to set. Anyone found a better way to text on the 8400 or M1?

I could be completely missing your point but as far as I know it's always been that way. With all the Sanyo's I've used, when in "abc" mode you could always hit the center "ok" button to lock on to the current letter and start selecting the next letter. So while the process you describe is a little different than hitting a "next" button, the end result is the same.

the 8400 supports gmail aplication..
i think i DL it for the 8100.. i gues i should find one for a evdo phone but the 8100 works just fine
on my 7400 a900 fusic 8400 m1 all have telenave with no problems.. and pretty accurate..and infact it works the best on m1 ... its the free one you upload yourself from SPusers.

I think what he is trying to say is that for all the features packed into one unit, the quality of those features may be lessened so he can't justify the price. He would rather spend more money on a product that specializes in what he's looking for.

Hows the MP3 feature on the M1? Is it easy to transfer MP3's to the phone like it is with the A900? I really like the fact that this M1 has a QVGA (240x320) screen and 1 gig with of memory. I'm most interested in this phone becuase of the MP3 feature though.

I have a 2 gig card working in the 8400 just fine.
Does the 8400 really take the 2 gig card okay?? Anybody else using a 2 gig card?
I got my 8400 back in October and have been hoping off for hopes of getting an M1 but that's not going to happen. (Local store manager had promised me he'd swap out my 8400 for an M1 with me paying the difference once he had the phones in stock...but of course he went back on his word. Should've known that would happen. Scumbag!) Anyways....since I have no hope of getting an M1 now without paying full retail I'm going to get a microSD card for my 8400 and if the 2 gig card works I'd rather buy that for the added space.

Yes. I have a SanDisk 2 gig card in my phone and works just fine. I have used 1.3GB just for music, with .6GB left for pics, sound recordings, videos, etc.
