Hey all! I am new here... I have a problem!
I am in the age range of 13-16 (old enough to know not to give any info out on the web - hehe). I was gonna ask for a Phone for christmas. My parents have Sprint phones and I think I know their plan...
F&C
500 mins
7pm Nights, 500 texts, 20% loyalty, 23% corp (I helped send the e-mails to ecare - friend helped lol)
Whatever else is included with the F&C Plan...
59.99
Still about 15mos. left in contract

I happen to know that the AAP is $20 more.

We are on a tight budget so I need to somehow prove to my dad that getting a phone will only slightly affect our price! I was thinking about going through retentions and talking about the 49.99 1000 min family plan Tmobile has going on now during the holiday season... Was hoping for a free RAZR too!

Yes, I have been doing my homework...

Could anyone please help...and please feel free to ask questions...?
Sorry if I made some mistakes - first post!

Sprint may be willing to put you guys into a $50/1000 plan and charge $10 per Add-A-Line. $50+10+10=70 less discounts. Sprint gets you committed for 2 years from now on the new plan and gets an added line. You get the phone your hoping for. I would suggest talking to your parents about adding roaming $5/month and earlier nights (7pm may be $5 also) to maximize your minutes. Then you would need to make sure not to go over your minutes or deal with their wrath!

Could add a 3rd line from a third party site like wirefly or letstalk.com

bobbyjay
12-03-2006, 12:08 PM
So it is possible? With still being in contract? How do I add a third line from another site?

I won't go over my minutes, that is not a problem! Thanks for all the input...

I would just change your current plan to the new $59.99 Fair & Flexible plan with 550 minutes and free 7pm nights on all lines. Ask that all your current discounts remain intact and tell them that you plan on adding a line to the account. Your parents bill should only be about $12-$15 higher per month depending on taxes.

Good Point, But if I go through retentions my plan will become better correct?

I've heard of people going through retentions and getting a worse deal. Like folks with old vision, text, or F&C plans.

To add another line from a 3rd party site you would sign up through them, depending on where you go or what you want you can get some great deals.

Adding a line is considered a new activation so you could get "new customer pricing" on the phone.

The Krazr can be had for free after rebate... I think it's 120 upfront.
The Razr can be had for free...actually like 6 dollars for shipping or something.

WE don't have any vision or texting etc but I was thinking that I would get a RAZR free from Retn. anyways if I said that T-mo was giving them out free!

12-04-2006, 04:44 PM
You can try. They are tough to get phones from lately.

bobbyjay
12-04-2006, 04:45 PM
Ok, but the RAZR is $50 instore - you would think that they would give those out for free like competitors...

jumonjii
12-04-2006, 04:51 PM

bobbyjay
12-04-2006, 05:30 PM
So basically I may not get what I want the first time - would it be wise to try again every so often? How often?

jumonjii
12-04-2006, 05:42 PM
Go through retentions, mention the Sprint 1000 min 50 dollar plan. Tell them you also want to add a 3rd line and get a Razr and see what they say.

The things you're looking have been difficult to come by as of late. Don't take this negatively, but retentions usually gives the best deals out to customers who are nearing the end of their contract. Having 15 months left on yours (or your parents) doesn't give you much leverage.

bobbyjay
12-04-2006, 06:19 PM
How can they refuse if I compare them to a specific plan with T-mo, I mean they cant really say that we can't match it, we are not that competitive... I do understand what you are saying but I don't see them saying that...

jumonjii
12-04-2006, 06:21 PM
They've told me a couple times they don't price match.

bobbyjay
12-04-2006, 06:23 PM
Oh... snap! I don't understand how sprint can just tell me that they can not be as good as a competitive plan. Now, I can just hope... If it doesn't work - I will ask to be changed to F&F plan and then just $10/ aap - pretty much free w/ my discount...

jumonjii
12-04-2006, 06:34 PM
Well...... finacially Sprint effed up the last few years. Too much churn (people switching carriers) and too much money lost from free phones. They are tightening the noose, dumping the deadbeat customers, and basically licking their wounds and limping through the rest of the year.

If they can reestablish their foothold, maybe they will then start being more competititive.

Right now, they can't afford it.

Retention could also spot the BS, and close your accout LOL. I have seen this happen before, so be careful.

Despite all of the success stories that have been shared by many SU members, retentions actually says no too. And your percentages only go down, the more time you have left on your contract. That 15 months is exactly why they would say no. Their not bargaining to keep you as a customer now, because you're already locked in. That is why the price matching and deal giving is done when you near the end of your contract.

If I say that I want to port later will it be ok?

To be completely honest you can give it your best shot but I wouldn't expect much.

You are already locked into contract for another 15 months. The retention department is designed to "retain" loyal customers. Your committed to a contract for the next 15 months. If you leave now retentions knows that you pay an early termination fee of $200.00 per line. Either way it is money in their pockets; they will either hit you with the monthly service charges or an early termination fee. When you reach the end of your term and your thinking of switching to another provider, Sprint may be a little more willing to offer you what it takes to keep you as a customer. In the meantime, you really don't have a great argument for getting a better plan and a free phone.

Please don't get me the wrong way, Sprint appreciates your business, but as mentioned they have had a tough year financially. Therefore, Sprint is not allowed to give out whatever they want to whoever asks. You may have noticed reading some of the threads since August the retention department has really buckled down and they are not the giving tree they used to be.

Just my two cents.

Ok... Will CS let me go from F&C to F&F? then $10 aap

You may switch from your current F&C Plan to a F&F Plan to take advantage of the $10 add-a-phone. However, if you switch plans each line of service will be required to sign a new Sprint Advantage Agreement (contract).

You may be able to get $10 AAP's on your existing free and clear plan. I'd ask for any additional AAP's to be $10 each as every other provider offers $10 AAP's.

If you need a $50/1000 plan, just say your on a free and clear plan and a friend mentioned he has a $50/1000 free and clear plan and you would like to get it also. Consider your savings with sprint over the long term vs your short term savings of $50 on a phone. Sometimes its better to take the standard offer on a phone to get the plan you want.

on the first 2 lines how long have they had the phones for? you can go to sprint.com and on the front page, left side, almost all the way down right below coverage maps and send a text message you can go to check upgrade eligbility and see if they can get a discount on a new phone

Long time user of Sprint from 1995, been out of contract for 6 years. Currently using a Samsung A500.

Just got off the phone with retentions: I'm currently on a F&C plan from way back in the day. Currently have 600 Any time minutes, 3K nights & weekends, FIMF(first incoming minute free). & $30 a month.
Was offered $150 instant off Sanyo M1 phone and $75 credit to account, 500 free text per month, in addition to above at $30. Was also offered Power Vision for $10 a month(reduced from $15). I could not get them to throw in Power Vision for free.

I'd like to get the Sero plan but unfortunately I'm in an affiliate area (Shentel) and I'd have to go out of state where it would be long distance for local friends to call my phone if I get the Sero plan by providing an alternate address, no way of keeping my number since I'm in an affiliate coverage area anyhow.

Any suggestions, on what others have been able to get through retentions? Can I do better?
I was accidentally disconnected when the rep went to make the changes to my account above and I thought I'd use the time to rethink things.

After reading this, it doesn't seem like Sprint would care much! I HAVE BEEN WITH SPRINT FOR ABOUT 10 YEARS NONSTOP!!! I have never ever been on a different carrier with one of my numbers! Does that matter at all? I have paid my bill every single time! (By me I mean my dad lol!) I think I impressed him by what I told him, just need to get closer to christmas!!!! Come faster already!!!
