View Full Version : Sanyo RL-7300 as a phone modem?

Hi,
I'm new to this forum. I've been a Sprint customer since 1999 and am month to month with a 2000 minute plan with 2 lines at $85.00 per month. Always paid on time and Sprint has been happy to take my money. Up until a couple of months ago, I had an old Sanyo SCP-4700 phone. I use the phone for talk only. Don't need the fancy ringtones, text messaging and the like. The old phone died on me and I got a refurb Sanyo RL-7300 off e-Bay for $60.00. Took it to the Sprint store and activated it after my old SCP-4700 finally bit the dust. I was able to use my old phone as a dial-up modem connected to my laptop via my dialup ISP. Connection speed was a poor 19,800bps, but I only used it to get my e-mail while on the road and away from a hot spot. It met my needs. Anyway, I got a data connect USB cord for my "new" RL-7300 only to find I can't use this phone as a dialup modem unless I'm willing to spring for another $40.00 a month for a Vision plan. Not happy. Doesn't seem fair to have to now pay for something I could do before for free. (other than the minutes burned to get my e-mail) Sprint "customer no service" basically told me too bad. As I'm not under a contract, I'm shopping for new service with another carrier unless I can find some way to get back to where I was before my old phone died. I'm not going to pay $140 a month. I need the 2000 minutes as I have a business and the other line is for my son who is in college. So, the minutes do get used.
I've had a quick look round the forum and FAQ's. If someone could point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful.

I'd like to find an answe to this, as well, because now ( a week later) Sprint
is saying that I can't have Vision on my main lie *AND* "Phone as a Modem".
Basically, by having PAM, I'm told that I cannot have
Picture Mail or surf via Vision from the phone, anymore.

Truth? B.S.?

Best,

PAM plans include vision. It is true you cannot have both vision and Pam CODES on one account. Also to get picture mail just send a picture out of your phone once you sign up for the PAM and it should prompt you to sign up for 5.00 a month. If I'm wrong someone correct me but I'm pretty sure thats how it works.

nestone - If you look around there are some phones which still allow PAM without a plan. While this is not supposed to be this way, it does work. The Sanyo 9000 I know works, and there are others I just cannot think of them right now. With the release of the M1 I'm sure you will be seeing a bunch of 9000's up for sale. However all the new phones you have Powervision on the account which the lowest available would be 15. Since you are out of contract and been with sprint for so long, try calling retentions and seeing if they can offer you some discounts, or powervision for free. :)

Let us know the results both of you :)
