Have other people had this problem? The exact same thing has happened to me with two different phones.

In short, the camera and camcorder functions on my phone quit working.

Here's the long version:
After a fresh power-up, the phone boots and I press the camera button on the keypad, the "Picture &Video" menu comes up. Then I select Camera, and for an instant the camera loading graphic comes up, but then the phone goes back to the home screen. No error message or anything.

If I try the same thing again and select camera on the "Picture &Video" menu, the phone will somewhat freeze. If I press BACK, the phone will un-freeze. If I press END, It'll go back to the home screen. But if I press the camera button or Menu/OK again the phone will display faint horizontal bars for an instant then white screen, black screen, and act like it just reset itself and come back to the home screen.

I asked Sanyo about this problem last summer (with my first 8300) and they ended up replacing it. Now the replacement is doing the exact same thing, and I don't think I'm under warranty anymore.

Does anyone know if there's a fix for the problem, or have any suggestions?
Thanks.

I called Sanyo about the problem today. They said that since their repair depot sent me the replacement phone (not Sprint) and I'm experiencing the exact same problem, they'll repair/replace it again.

Tomorrow I'll FedEx it off to Texas.

I know of two other 8300's that have had this problem. One was Red, one silver. Both by different people. They are out of the one year warranty, I wonder what would happen if they called Sanyo directly. Were you in or out of warranty the first time you got the phone replaced. Also do you have the number you dialed for Sanyo?? Thanks! :)

C1787GJ,
My phone is "arctic blue", so it seems all colors are affected. I was still under the 1-year warranty when I had this problem last spring and called Sanyo the first time. I've probably had the replacement phone for 5 or 6 months now, so the problem didn't pop up right away.
The Sanyo number I called is 866-726-9692.
Goodluck with the other phones.

My 8300 was solid as a rock. I gave it to my son and upgraded to the 8400. I tell you sometimes I really miss that phone.. Sigh....

I didn't get the 8300 sent off to Sanyo before the holidays, and when I was ready to send it, I had lost the RA#. So I called back last week to request it again, I talked to a different Sanyo rep who he gave it to me. (Un)fortunately, this one realized that it had been over a year since I purchased the original phone, and he told me not to send it in, since they wouldn't attempt to repair it. He said they would have just shipped the phone back to me unchanged.

So then I decided to try to get a deal with Sprint for a new phone. Luckily I wasn't under contract and they were willing to negotiate a bit. I decided to go with the Sanyo 8400. I hope it's good.
