I have searched for days on here, about how to upload/download the phonebook.
First, we already know that you can only do phonebook updates (not ringers, pictures and other cool stuff) through bitpm.
The problem was the driver. All solution point to BUYING the $29 datapilot driver to use with bitpm. I knew there had to be a better way.
Finally after 2 nights of searching, I found a driver that works. I downloaded so many sanyo drivers that I don't even know the link to it. However, I did save the drivers. If anyone can host them that would be great. I believe it is the sanyo 9000 driver actually.
First you will notice that if you plug in your 3100 to the USB, you will get 2 hardware found notices for "data interface". None of the typical sanyo drivers will work as is.
What I had to do was, when it asked for the FIRST driver, go to "install from specific location". Then go to "don't search for driver". It will bring up the list of all the types of drivers. At that point you go to "have disk", and point to the directory of the sanyo driver. Finally it will give you the selection of Sanyo USB phone.
Windows will tell you the driver is not signed, that is fine. Then it will accept it as Sanyo USB modem and install. Then, it will ask for the 2nd driver, but it should recognize automatically as Sanyo Serial port. If it does not automatically try, you can go back and update the driver, and it should pick it up, it did for me.
After I did this, I went into BitPim and it picked up the new phone. You can also go into the manual setup, go to the new COM port (com5 or com6 usually), and pick your phone as SCP3100. It recognized it. I took my phone contact list from my old 2300 and successfully uploaded it no problem.
Sorry if this has been done before but I searched until my fingers hurt for a FREE solution and did not find one. All I wanted to do was upload my contacts and now it is done.
