View Full Version : Voice Dialing and the Sanyo M1

Does anyone know if the new Sanyo M1 supports voice dialing of phone numbers without the requirement of the user having to pre-record the voice name of each user that he may want to voice dial?

In other words, all phones let you enter a name and phone number in your phone book using the keypad on your phone. Some phones allow to call any person in your phone book simply by saying "call Bubba". There is no need to record a voice entry for the phone book entry. Does this make sense? Is there a name for the feature that I am trying to describe?

I know that the Sanyo 8400 does not have this feature and therefore it is necessary to record the voice name when you add a new entry to the phonebook. If you do not record the voice name, you will not be able to use voice dialing for that name. Bummer! This is the biggest issue with the Sanyo 8400. Even my old Sanyo 7400 has this feature.

Does the Sanyo M1 have this feature?

Damn! I wish that I knew the proper name for this feature.

I'm not sure but I wanted to let you know that there are a few M1 threads by a few people who have had the phone in hand (the one off of ebay has been passed around to close friends of the winner) so your best bet would be to go into the Sanyo forum, and either search the already made threads about the M1, or ask a new question. I'm sure you'll get more attention to this question in that section then on here... It's not the answer but I hope it helps you out

Yes it has advanced voice dialing.

on the 9k to get to the voice dialing feature you have to hold talk down for about 2 secs, then the phone will ask you to say the name, and you don't have to pre-record the names. try that on the 8400 and see if that works.

Or just push the voice key on the right side of the phone. The 84 doesn't have the advanced voice dialing, you have to pre record the name in order to use voice dialing.

The key terms are:

Speaker-Independent Voice Dial.....and.....Speaker-Dependent Voice Dial; the former requires no training or recording per contact, unlike the latter.

For instance, VoiceSignal is the name of one system for Speaker-Independent Voice Dial/Commands; it was on my A900, and is also on my IP-830w....among other phones.

its so funny to me that my a640 has the voicesignal software and the 8400 needs to have tags recorded. why the _ sanyo? makes no sense. at least the M1 has it.

Most Samsungs do. It's a little sad that this couldn't be incorporated into more Sanyo's. I don't know if the 7500 has it but I believe both 7500 and 8400 to be mid-level to high-end phones and I would most definitely expect a phone of that class to have that speaker-dependent voice dial feature especially since it was put into a phone as early as the 5600 and there has been quite a few Sanyo's out since then. Samsung seems to do a good job at putting that feature in most of their phones. Usually anything with a camera will have that feature on a Samsung phone.

So are you saying the M1 has the Advanced Voice Dialing, or the M1 has the VoiceSignal voice-command features like the Samsungs have had? I'd love the M1 to have the VoiceSignal 3.0 software in them.... :fingers:

Highly doubt its voice signal. It's prob the same software that they used on the other Sanyos.

same as the 9K, but tweaked, with a few new things you can do.. definitely not voicesignal

Did a search and couldn't find any specifics on the voice stuff for the M1. I understand that "it's advanced".

I've had Sanyos before and often used the voice tags to voice dial. I've never had a Samsung phone but understand that they've had additional voice abilities on their phones for a while (okay...I think I remember someone saying a Sanyo phone had it other than the M1...but I forgot which it was...it's not important). You can say stuff like "status" and it'll tell you your battery power and signal strength and such.

This afternoon I discovered that my daughter's Fusic had this so I hooted Cool Cool a few times and then played with it for a while. I found that the fusic's voice command stuff was more of a pain to use than simply using the contact list, and the voice recognition was hit or miss. I also didn't see any fast way of using this without going through the menus (or creating a shortcut). I'm used to my 8400, and before that my 8200, where I could just press and hold the speakerphone button and it would ask me to "say a name".

My question is pertaining to the M1, of course. I figure it will allow you to press and hold the right side button to (cancel keyguard and..) make a call by using my voice. It says something like "state a command" now, right? Is it easy to make a call using this or do you have to look at the phone to choose a name via a drop-down menu, or keep saying "yes" or "no" to selections as it tries to figure out who I want to dial?

Sounds like it may be more feature-rich but more inaccurate than voice tags. [Granted I didn't select the "training" option on my daughter's phone...don't know what that is, but if it's sort of a fine-tuning of the program for a specific voice it may have worked better for me] Have any of you used the M1 voice features and find that it works nicely? Is it a lot slower to voice dial on the M1 than it was on other Sanyos?

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

i have the M1 and had the 8300 -- on the M1 just hold down speaker phone button and say a voice tag or hold if you dont want speaker phone just hold down the talk key and both will ask you " please say a voice tag"

if you push and hold the external speaker button, or use the turbo button on the earbuds, you get the advanced voice dialing system. You can say several commands, nearly identical to the Fusic, actually.

seems almost totally worthless... you get no verbal confirmation on who you just dialed...

the time it takes to dial someone using voicedial (not voicetags,) is anywhere between 4 seconds, to as long as 30 seconds... depending on how noisy it is, and if the phone can understand your accent.

just open the phone and use abbreviated dialing or something... five button-presses... only takes about one second to dial...

if you turn on the voice prompt it makes using the feature without looking at the phone a bit easier

That's right. I use it when driving with my BT headset. It works great, and I don't have to touch the phone.
