Sorry if this should be in the Sanyo forum. If so, please move it.
Okay, so I have a Sanyo 9000 phone, and just purchased a dummy unit off of eBay for the housing to be used as a replacement. My phone has been dropped on several occasions, and is looking prety poor. Since the dummy phone I got was only $5, I figured it would be a good way to get that "new phone look" back.
I would like some assistance regarding changing out the housings on these phones. I've never done anything like this before, so I want to take it slow and make sure I don't mess anything up. I do have experience dealing with electronics (I can build and repair guitar equipment, pedals, amps, etc.) but nothing dealing with cell phones before.
I noticed on my phone, but not the dummy phone, the only visable screw is a tri-wing screw. On the dummy phone it is a regular phillips screw head. So, I assume I need a special tool to take out that screw. Anyone know where one can be had for a cheap price?
Also, where are the other screws located on this phone? It can't possibly be held together by a single screw...
If someone would be so kind as to walk me thru this process, I'd be very grateful! I know there are some really friendly and knowledgable people on these forums, and I hope one of 'em would help me out!
Thanks in advance to anyone who can contribute to this project! :wavey:

try a search -- james2k did a 5600 / 9000 transplant
also, i believe the 'special screw' is a torx
yes, the standard screw for most cell phones is a Torx screw driver. Try sears or walmart for that screwdriver....... they run a couple bucks.

you'll actually need a tri-wing screwdriver to open the phone. it's the same screwdriver that's used to open a game boy advance. you can search ebay for it.
as far as the replacement....ugh, bad times....there's a thread titled "the most elite 9K ever" that i made. the pics are towards the end tho...
it's a fairly easy job, just need to take it slow and make sure to keep everything clean...and go slow...can't stress that enough. hopefully the pics will help, the thread isn't reallly a step by step or anything...

Most of them won't do it, unless you pay. But, that really is dependant upon the tech themselves. I know at my old store, one of my three techs would (so long as you would pay 35-55 bucks listed in the ESRP program) while the other two refused.

dtarrance, I have a Yamaha GW10 effects pedal that pumps ungodly screaching feedback through my amp rendering it useless too me. I can hear the guitar a little bit through the chaos but it just sucks and I would love to have it working again. Can you fix it, or maybe with your experience you would know what is wrong with it and tell me where to look cause everything looks fine to me. :headbang2
Thanks :headbang2 :music:

You can buy a generic housing on ebay, take it to a cell phone tech, usually you can find one in the yellow pages or your local mall where they fix phones have them swap it out or just put a skin cover on it. :headbang2
