My wife and I have had Sprint for about 6 years. Our contract recently expired and we are seeking a better plan either with Sprint or others.
Our current plan consists of:
2000 shared minutes
Unlimited text
Unlimited Web
Unlimited Photo sharing
and a few other little things
$115 per month, after taxes and other charges, usually around $145.
I need a new phone but my wife doesn't. I know I'm eligible for a $150 discount just like a new customer. I've been reading about Sprints retention plan, what is it?
Where is the best place to go to get a better deal? Online, in the store, customer service?
So far the best I've heard from a customer service rep was 10% off my monthly bill if I re-up for 2 years without changing anything to my current plan. As a loyal customer, that doesn't sound that great to me.
Thanks,
J

10 percent for 4 years isn't that bad.
You could try retentions to see if you can get a cheaper plan based on your usage but with all your free options, that's a great plan.
the other options are to:
1. see if your company has an employee discount.
2. dig through the "tips and tricks" thread and see if the flyer discount is still available.

The thing I tell customer's in your position to do is this: have an idea of what you'd like to see happen if you are going to renew with Sprint. This isn't a car lot. If you don't know what you want, then don't take their offer, look at it, turn it over, then go "nah, try again". YOU as a customer need to have some idea of what YOU would like to see.
Go to the other carriers and pick up rate plan guides. Keep in mind that those rates are going to be the rates as you've not been "a xxx customer for 6 years". Then go back and look at what you currently have. Then decide what you'd like to see if Sprint would be willing to give you to renew for 2 years. Then make the call to Sprint and see if they are willing to give you what you are asking for. If not, either modify your request or port out.
Keep in mind though that each time you call Sprint and ask for a "deal" because you "are considering cancelling" then a note gets placed in your account. I'm sure they will be willing to do something for you, but don't wear it out. Make a smart, adult offer and then that's it. Remember that cancelling requires starting up all over again, brand new, with no perks, no discounts, no freebies. And companies like Verizon don't tend to do much in the way of "retentions" ever. Happy hunting.

That Verizon remark reminded me of a gentleman and his wife that came in to RadioShack a couple weeks ago. He came in one night by himself and wanted to upgrade his Verizon phone, I politely told him (as I do all current Verizon customers coming to RS), that we no longer sold Verizon, but I could certainly help him picking out new Sprint or Cingular phones. We talk for 5 mins or so, I of course try to lean him toward Sprint, but he seems set on keeping Verizon and wanted to know what they would offer him to stay. I told him I understood and that I would do the same thing, hand him the Sprint plan guides and off he went.
The guy came back with his wife exactly a week later, around the same time and tells me all they offered was a $5 recurring credit towards his bill each month. I almost laughed...
Anyways, it worked out for me. I sold them 2 new Sprint phones and they seemed very happy!
Verizon retention, gotta love em. :p

I actually have PITY, out and out PITY for people who have only had Sprint and think their getting ****ed over on some of the deals they turn down. It's insane. You will never, and I repeat, NEVER, get some of the deals at other carriers Sprint offers. I have a strong feeling that's why Sprint is just letting some people go right now. Eventually they will be back unless they just enjoy emptying their wallets a tad more each month. Just because you have service or products with one company for so long does not entitle you to prices that are "not listed" in current pricing. I don't expect Marlboro to cut me a better deal each time I buy a pack even though I've given god knows how much money to that company over the years. I know, I know, the next thing someone will say is "contract". Who cares. It's two years. If you are 30 and live to be 60 you can do 15 different 2 year contracts in that time, so have some cheese with your whine and hush. If you think two years is a long time, consider how long we've put up with "W". ;)

LOL nice post Travis. :)
the only beef i have with sprint is the upgrade fee. i know we're the last carrier to enforce upgrade fees, but it's lame that new acts can get their fee waived, but not current customers.

Its not too bad. You could prob do a little better on the price..... but its not a terrible deal.

A lot of times current customers can get them waived by calling in. However, if 1 out of 5 call and the rest don't, then think of the revenue.

Not Much Of A Deal IMO. I Would Have Just Bought New Phones And Not Lost My Perks. They Tried To Get Me Like That, In The Long Run It Would Cost Me More. Texts Are My Life Blood.

I know I bringing this thread back from the dead, but I've been with Sprint since 2001, HAD 4 lines on my account (1 free, 2 $20/each), old vision ($10) and unlimited text (free) on my main line, 2000 minutes, 7 pm ($5), roaming ($5) paying about $170 per month.
I found out my employer offered discounts with Cingular, so I called Sprint since I'd been out of contract for 2 years. I told them what I could get with Cingular and they transfered me to "Account Services". I again told them what I could get and the rep said "that's easy to beat".
Ended up with 2200 anytime, free roaming, n&w at 7 (free), unlimited vision on the 3 sub lines (free), Power vision on mine (free), unlimited text on all 4 lines (free), 15% loyalty discount, $50 monthly credit (1 year). After the discounts/credits my 3 sub lines work out to be free and my monthly payment is $115 INCLUDING taxes and junk fees.
Due to continued issues with being charged roaming on one line (in an affilitate market which is in theory ineligible for the Free and Clear America), last month and this month my bill is $30.00!
