I was looking around for things to download to my phone, and some of the websites either say "bandwidth exceeded," others are on geocities, and some don't even work anymore at all. I have an extra server that is up and running. I rented the server w/ domain for a big website project, but right now and in the near future I won't have time to do that. So, basically I have a server with a few hundred megabytes, and I'm not using it, so I don't see why somebody can't use it to put some cell phone games, ringers, themes, etc etc on there. Btw, of course it's free... I'm not gonna make you pay or anything...... since I'm probably gonna use the content uploaded to there as well :clap: . Oh yeah, and only legal stuff please! So let me know what you wanna put on the website/server, and we can get a page setup for you.... and FTP access etc etc.

possible as in download things other then like ringers from 3g4free and spint.... then again those are really the only sites i visit on my phone....

Yeah, I love the 3g4free website.... it's so simple, gets right to the point, no login, no accounts, no unnecessary loading times, click and download. That's the kinda site I'd like to provide. I'm just a web designer, not a content creator, and then there are content creator who know nothing about websites. I just figure I'm paying for the damn server, someone ought to use it :) and since I'll design the website, I know it will be an easy website, that's fast, and content that works... since I'm gonna try it. One stone... two birds :p

the problem with 3gforfree is that the content has been known to mess peoples phones up (randomly freezing phones, problems with contacts getting erased, etc.). So be carefull....

I've downloaded tons of stuff from there on to my VM-A680 and now my SCP 8400, and I can't say I've ever had a problem. Then again, you never know.... maybe it will be unleashed on my in a few weeks :fingers:

I have downloaded stuff too when I worked for a 3rd party dealer and it never messed my phone up...but trust me, people have had problems.

Probably with anything... 3Gforfree is akin to getjar.com. Sort of download at your own risk.
The problem with sites created by people like us is that it eventually becomes quite a large beast to handle. This is why Don shut down, Louie shut down, etc. VisionSamaritan is still going, I'm still going, but there's no telling when/if we'll go away. So that's why there aren't more sites like it. But we highly encourage more people to join the game :D
If you need help with anything, just let me know. There are plenty of people here who would be willing to share ringtones with you, I know that for sure as I've been offered the same. Heck, if you could even get just a straight ringtone site created, everyone would love you. Ringtones are the most popular content downloads.

I haven't downloaded anything from your site yet (not entirely sure where my phones are), but I'm going to assume you got that fixed. There are some MIME types that have to be added to your server before you can actually download things. Then you have to make sure the GCD is written correctly with the right Midlet-Size and other junk... But I'm guessing you got this working from others' responses to your site. If not, you just let me know and we'll get it workin!

There are a lot of nasty, unappreciative people--I've encountered only one, but shortly before Don shut down (he had the ringtone site of all ringtone sites) there were A LOT of people quickly making my sh*t list for things they were publicly saying about him. Bandwidth should never become an issue--files aren't big enough. Unless you start doing streaming... which still hasn't become a bandwidth issue for me (just another kinda issue), but that's a whole 'nother story.
In the end, people fade away because it's a lot of work you never saw coming, and after so long making other strangers on a forum happy stops being a good enough reason to keep up with it. It is fun at first though. I've only had mine going for a couple of months and I'm already tired of it, but I'm sticking with it anyway. My hope is that you take over the ringtone world and I can do away with that portion of my site ;) They're the most work, and I've made it even more work by being the crazy gal that I am... It'd be nice if someone stepped up to the plate to provide everyone with a quality ringtone site that gets the updates everyone looks for. I just don't do that because I suck. But you seem pretty cool :)
