I really love surfing the web with my phone using Opera mini2, but you know something...for some reason I cannot access Sprint Users with it. Maybe with the beta version I'll have better luck. There are only a handful of sites I've run into problems with and unfortunately this site here is one of them.
I just get a blank white page. dang. So I use my phone's browser for SU.

Hi Johan, if you're reading this, please do something about file saving--on the Samsung A920 I can't use Opera to download anything, only Sprint's built-in browser which is far inferior to yours.

My internet went out last night in my house and I was in the middle of playing a game on Pogo.com. I didn't think it would work but I went to Opera Mini on my 8400 I have 2.0 and tried to see if I could play the game I was in the middle of playing and it said my browser didn't have Java. But then it said works with I.E. Firefox and some others and then said may work with Opera. I guess Opera Mini is differen't and it won't work on a cell phone? I was going to see if I could download the Java tomy phone but i didn't want to mess anything up so I didn't... But I am going to try the 3.0 now also.
Thanks, Rose

Sprint phones only download files that are gcd encoded. If download a file that ends in an mp3 extension it will only play the file.

For some reason, version 2 on my a900 keeps resetting itself occasionally, losing all my saved logins and stuff like that. However, the bookmarks and history are still there. This was very annoying, but I couldn't find anything about it online, even after several searches. Hopefully the new beta will fix this. Downloading now...

Are you doing the high version or the low one? It says unless I am certain my phone has enough memory do the high. I should on the 8400.. I'll try it and see what happens.. Also will this go over the top of my old one? And if not and I delete my old one then I guess I lose all my bookmarks and settings? Rose

You can install the beta along side your old one...I noticed that the Opera Mini website says, "Secure Browsing (Advanced Version)." Does that mean that we are going to have to pay for the browser at some point?
Do you have a tentative release date of the official release?
Excellent . . . Keep up the good work! :)

it won't work on the treo 700p for some reason has anyone else been able to use it?
The past few upgrades have asked to transfer the bookmarks. I just downloaded Version 3.0 and have 2.0 on my Samsung A920. The Beta 3.0 didn't ask to transfer or transferred the bookmarks from 2.0. Did I do something wrong or is this normal for the Beta?
Love both 2.0 and now 3.0

Downloaded and installed the 3.0 version (high) of opera mini. looks nice and I did a bit of surfing and playing with the new browser. I am having the same problem with 3.0 as I am with version 2 that I cannot access sprintusers. I can go to the main page okay, but when I click on forums it goes to a blank white screen and I can go no farther.
I can get there with the phone's browser....even though...initially there was a slight pause when a url flashed across the screen that ended I think in something like wap/dhl.php or something like that...and the browser (the wap2.0 one, not opera) briefly said that it couldn't be decoded by the ion something or other...and then whooosh it left that screen and whisked me off to the main forum page. I've tried to recreate it this evening but can't . anyways...don't know if that page is what's bogging down operamini or not.

I'll see if I can acces the users forum from my phone.. I installed the high version of 3.0 and it didn';t ask me ot transfer bookmarks but I don't have that many so I will just manually add them then delete the 2.0. I don''t need both right? I am not out of space yet so I guess it doesn't matter if I delete the 2.0 or not really. Rose

Wouldn't Connect Earlier For Like An Hour. Request Timed Out. So What's The Major Differences?
will this release support streaming and/or downloading?
No support for streaming. Yet. Downloading of files is supported on devices that supports saving files with their WAP browser. Unfortunately most (all?) Sprint devices has this functionality blocked :irked:
Howcome when I go to it from my IE explorer on my 700wx, (mini.opera.com) it says "Your phone model was detected as Compaq - IPAQ HX4700, which does not support java, If this is not correct, please select the link below to download Opera Mini anyway.
We have some problems telling those windows based devices apart since some of them share the same UA-string. However, feel free to "override" the warning and try to install anyway. (I guess the advanced version will work on your device, but we haven't tested)
I have the 8400 and it said my phone isn't detected and recommends me to download the low version and not the high one.
Well, I guess the advanced version will work on your phone. Feel free to find out! :)
If you want to help us to detect your phone model in the future, please visit http://mini.opera.com/detect with your phones WAP-browser (not Opera Mini) and fill in the information.
You can install the beta along side your old one...I noticed that the Opera Mini website says, "Secure Browsing (Advanced Version)." Does that mean that we are going to have to pay for the browser at some point?
The advanced version refers to the version for MIDP2 enabled phones which are capable of handling more features. There's also a basic version for MIDP1 phones. There are no plans for charging for Opera Mini.
The beta installs alongside the regular Opera Mini, so bookmarks, feeds and settings will be kept separate. The beta version of Opera Mini will stop working as soon as we release the real version.
Thanks for all your feedback! Even if I don't reply to all posts I read them all! For more information about the beta releas, please keep an eye on http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/operamini/beta/

But can Opera Mini be programed to open all the RSS Feeds in a window? I like MyYahoo because it has all these RSS feeds open at once, allowing me to go to one page to check 7 pages.

Well, I just tried the photo-upload feature of Opera Mini 3.0 beta, using my Sanyo MM-9000. I was disappointed to find out this phone does not support the photo upload feature.
No "input box with a camera symbol" is shown when I go to the "Opera Mini Photo Upload" bookmark that comes preinstalled with Opera Mini 3.0 beta. Only a submit button, and when I click on it, it shows the "Thank you for Contributing" page, but the image properties and blank, and obviously there is no photo.
I'd definately use this feature a LOT if it could be some how made to work properly with my phone. Hope there is something you guys (Opera Software Developers) can do to help out!!!
I Wish Opera Mini 3.0 Had More Color Skins To Choose From Like Light Blue And Green.

If you don't see the input field with the little camera in it but only the submit button when going to the photo upload test page your phone is not letting Opera Mini use the camera. There's simply nothing we (or you) can do about that. :indiff:

That's a shame. Gives me one more complaint about Sprint limiting functionality on their handsets...
Come on Sprint, what is the harm of an application accessing the camera? If you're worried about security, just put one of those popups on it like the ones for accessing the vision network, or locating you via GPS, with options for allow once, allow this session, or allow always. I mean, if we're paying for the handsets, and they have this functionality, it should be up to us to decide if we want/need to use it.

What does "content folding" in the settings mean ? i looked on "my opera" an could not find it.
SmplyD
11-07-2006, 05:36 PM
Content folding is when you see a whole bunch of links (like the SUsers navigation bar at the top), it will give you the first few links, but then fold the rest of the links into the arrow. You have to click on the arrow in order to see all the links.

for access to the camera, someone should check out the code for that new screensaver program. it's a java app, and its used for making custom screensavers that you can use or send to other peoples phones (but i forget the name... something to do with screensaver) and it lets you use the camera to take a picture while you are in the app. the app UI is there, but you can see what the camera is taking a picture of. it doesnt exit the app.

I am sure they would be able to incorporate that into there program so that more phones will be able to use the photo upload feature..... I'd really like to see this in opera mini 3.0.
also could someone get me the jar and jad for opera 3.0? i want to look play with tha jar to that as well....

Is it just my a900 that has problems with text entry? It works fine most of the time, but there are occasional problems. The T9 never works. I can type words out, but if I want to go to the next word by pressing 0, I can't. It just doesn't change the word, like it would if I were typing a text message. Also, sometimes the back button clears the entire text field, instead of one character like it should. And no, I'm not holding it down.
SmplyD
11-09-2006, 01:58 PM
Freak4Dell, to change words when using T9 in Opera, you must press down on your D-pad.
What I don't like about Opera is the fact that you can't use T9 when inputting a web page address. Typing it all in using Abc is very lame.

how come when I place punctuation at the end of a sentence when using T9 the whole word will disappear?
like if I type Later.
and then cycle through the period to get to an ! the whole word Later will disappear.
This only happens on some words sometimes but it is so annoying!
When it says T9w, just hit 0 and it should go to T9W, or t9w.

Thanks for your feedback!
I read all your postings and have forwarded your thoughts to the developers in charge of the different areas even though I am not able answer them all. However I can comment the questions about T9 and confirm that it's not able for us to control the use of T9 on the phones. We can just give the phone a hint on what kind of input the user is supposed to enter and then it's up to the phone to decide about T9 or no T9.
We've prepared a new beta for you to try out. The build number is 3.0.6167, and it can be downloaded by pointing you phones's browser to http://beta.mini.opera.com
Regarding bookmarks you already added in the first beta, they should be kept but no guarantees given  However, if you'd like the new phot-blogging-bookmark you have to delete the old beta and then install the new one. (Then all your bookmarks in beta 1 will be lost of course).
This time, the beta is available in many languages.

If you don't see the camera symbol on input type: file (used for file uploading on the web) the phone won't let Opera Mini use the camera and there is not much we (or you) can do about it but to nag on device manufacturers and mobile operators.
If you however DO see the camera symbol and something goes wrong when trying to take the picture or upload it, then it might be a bug in Opera Mini and the issue should be filed as a bug report.

That's wierd!
Can you please file a bug report (Menu -> Tools -> Help -> Bug report) on it so we might take a closer look?

When I try to download to my 700p it says " Missing IBM Java VM" - Please ensure that IBM's Websphere Micro Environment Java VM is installed. When I click okay I go back to my menu. Something I need to do?

Yes you need to install Java on your PDA as Opera Mini is a Java application.
The 700p does not come with Java pre-installed.

I don't see how opera mini could have that effect on your phone.... are you sure that OM was the cause for your issue?

Since I don't think locating the old version 2.0 is going to be an easy task, I think I'll wait until some other folks that have my phone take on the role of guinea pig on this one. (Since it's official...it'll overwrite the old 2.0 version) I'm thinking there still be a few bugs to work out. I'd love to go get the new one but am too nervous.
I'm happy with the old version for now. The rss and security are good but the promised photo abilities are what really sounds nice...last beta version I tried of it still didn't have it working for my phone. bummah.
[if i remember correctly, they probably won't be able to get the operamini to communicate with my camera's phone due to the way it's designed]

Does the A900 support photo uploading? I don't see the "photo blog" bookmark and the file input doesn't show up on myspace.

No, the a900 does not support this feature.

I just downloaded the final 3.0 and I'm also getting the (error: 3.-1.4)
I went to settings and did the connection test again. It says it connects but the error keeps coming up. On the Beta version during the connection test it said something like the best connection is "socket" if I remember correctly. The final version doesn't say that and it won't work.
I still have the Beta 3.0 and it works fine.
Just wanted to let you know.

I've noticed that it's been happening to alot of Sprint users the past day or so and was also reported on Opera's forums.
I was also getting the same errors as of yesterday, but today I went and re-downloaded the program and I no longer am getting the connection error messages.

I think it's some transient problems with the Opera server--one thing you need to be aware of with Opera is that you're actually getting web pages from their server adapted for your phone and not directly.
I saw a similar problem crop up in version 2.0 and disappear as well.

I downloaded the final version again and started it and it works today!!!
I Also Cant View My Pictures At http://pictures.sprintpcs.com i can send them to my ph. but i cant see them.
somehow that doesn't surprise me. Haha. I laugh because I use Opera as my main browser on the computer but Sprint Picturemail website is one of the sites that won't work on it...none of the pictures show up. Have to load Firefox up for that site. So hearing that miniopera won't work there too is no shock. Too bad though.

A900 User, Opera 3.0. I'm Having problems staying Logged in on websites I had no problem with on Opera 2.0. For instance on hotmail, when I log in and then try to go to another link on the Page it makes me have to log in again. HUH? My phone just rebooted out of no where. I was typing this message on the PC and had my phone just sitting there with Opera 3.0 on the Hotmail Login Screen and it just rebooted.
How can I downgrade back to 2.0?

I think I managed to fix the O 3.0 problem.
Go to Tools---Settings---Under Network Protocol Select SOCKET (will probably be auto-set to HTTP when you go in)
Since doing this, no more errors when hitting links. Hope it continues.

Howdy, the following was posted on the Opera Mini Forum on Friday:
"Opera Mini 3.02 (build 6540) is released. This is only a bugfix update. An important bug that caused problems with certain WAP gateways is fixed. If you had trouble connecting with Opera Mini 3.0, you should download this new version."
Forum URL: http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=170132
Download URL: operamini.com
I downloaded it (my Fusic warned me that i was installing the same version of the application, but that's an error), and after installing it I no longer get the annoying 3.-1.4 error. No more double-clicking required.
Nice.

Okay, so I downloaded the first mini opera 3.0 beta when it was originally posted on here. With the ability to log into secure servers, I checked my bank account on Chase with no problem. However when I downloaded the subsequent versions, now when I try to log into my bank account, it just brings me back to the log in page with no indication of why it doesn't proceed.
Anyone know what's going on here?

Upgraded and curiously enough, now I HAVE to use HTTP under protocol in the settings menu or it won't connect--where switching to "Sockets" before solved the problem in the previous version. Still works well and is a great browser so :)

I pulled down the mini Opera browser last night.
I'm unable to download an MP3 file. The browser shows
the "dialog box" asking me to confirm the download. But after
that the browser states that it must close to complete the download.
Opera falls away --- I see activity on the screen as though the file
is being pulled. Then I have only the right soft key left.
I've checked the SD card - can't find any files.
Am I missing something here ??
keywords - 8400 download mp3 content podcast
Thanks in advance ... and the Opera browser is really slick !!!

What you're missing is a phone capable of using this feature of Opera's. No Sprint phone will be able to do it.

Considering I ftp mp3s with moby explorer to my fusic's microsd, id love it if opera could just open up the microsd fs via the PIM JSR and save files downloaded there...
working. only problem is accesskey'sdon't want to work.

I noticed something odd this morning. I needed to send an email to my bosses letting them know I would be in late and I didn't feel like going alllllllllllllllll the way downstairs to my computer so I decided to just use my phone.
We run an Exchange server at work for mail. When I go to our external exchange address, I'm not prompted for my login/password. Instead it dumps me right into my Inbox. This is really interesting, especially since there are 7 other mailboxes it could have dumped me in. I haven't tried accessing Exchange on that phone through Opera in over a year, and the phone has been factory reset several times between then and now, so it's definitely not a cookie thing.
Since it was 4:30 in the morning, I didn't really care too much at that point. I just wanted to send the email and get back to being ill. Well I couldn't do that either. In the new version of Opera, the 'body' field for emails (in Exchange, at least) has disappeared. Clicking any of the little plus signs to expand everything does not help either. I tried replying to an email and creating a new one--neither worked.
Not too detrimental to me, since that was a one-time thing as I don't ever use my phones to send emails. I did end up having to go alllllllll the way downstairs to my computer though, which was a little upsetting (I stepped on the cat).
