I had convinced myself that I wanted to upgrade my Treo 600 to the Treo 700wx when my wife asked me why I needed another Treo and not just a regular phone.

When I got the 600, I was generally using it for web browsing, listening to tunes and checking my college email. I now use it mainly for tethering my laptop on my commute (1hr train ride each way).

About 6 months ago, my company gave me a blackberry with T-Mobile. Coverage sucks, but the thing is free and it can cope with: basic web browsing, email (including my work email which I could never do on my treo) making free calls (within reason) and most importantly, Sudoku!

Most of the features I am looking for in the 700wx exist in regular phones: EVDO, bluetooth. Any features which the 700wx beats a regular phone at (SMS, Web, Email), the blackberry is pretty good at, besides if I really need to email or surf the web I carry around a laptop most of the time.

The only things I can think of that a 700wx would do that neither a regular powervision phone or blackberry could handle is 1) Skype - I call the UK regularly and currently bounce between free calls on my blackberry and 6c/min on my treo (when the conscience kicks in!). 2) Reading accessing files on my SD card when I don't have my laptop handy.

Anybody think of any other reason why I might want a Treo? If not, anybody got any good recommendations for power vision phones (which I have been paying zero attention to)?

It's hard for us to make decisions for you. Expecially when you're asking us what you need? You just haft to read and do your research and find out which OS better fits your needs and which platform the OS is installed on (phone, price). The only person who know's what you need and what will fit your needs is... can you guess? YOU!

I say 700wx because of the size and the nice today screen over the 6700. Also the memory of the phone is alot more compared to other rival's.

And please remember Blackberry plans jump from the $15 powervision on regular PDA phones (non blackberrys) to $39.99 a month for the BB data plan. So if you dont mind the 3-4times price jump, then go ahead and get the BB if you like it.

Sorry. I didn't make myself clear. It's not a matter of what PDA phone to get, its a matter of whether I need another one.

I have a Treo 600 with sprint which I am ready to upgrade/replace. I also already have a company blackberry (T-mobile) which I'm less than impressed with (but it's free and it can get my corporate email).

The rest of the post above explains what I do with my phone(s).

What I'm asking is which of the following options makes most sense:

1) Get a Treo 700wx and double up on my PDA phones again. Unique advantages (as I see it): Owning a decent PDA phone, being able to do skype. Everything else I can do with my blackberry or a basic EVDO phone. Disadvantages: Unless Sprint cuts me an amazing deal I'm going to be shelling out quite a bit of my money. And I'd have to carry round a lot of extra weight (no more than I do now with the Treo 600).

2) Get a power vision phone: e.g. Sanyo M1 or wait for the EV-DO Rev A phones to come out. Advantages: Cheaper, lighter solution. Nicely fills the gap that my blackberry leaves (EVDO / bluetooth tethering to my laptop). Disadvantages: I'm forced to use a blackberry.

3) Get a laptop card and ditch the phone altogether. Does sprint do package deals where you can combine a phone (or two) and a laptop card and get everything for the same monthly fee as a family plan? Advantages: I can get EV-DO rev A right now and presumably use my laptop to make international skype calls.

My original question was trying to figure out if there was any angle I was missing. I did some research and what I just wrote is what I found out. I think I'm going to wait and see what phones are scheduled for 2007Q1 before jumping.

So with t-mo why exactly do they want you to use THEIR BB? I mean you can get the new BB from sprint and still be able to use it with their systems but again, the BB data plan is 39.99 a month so that hurts. A 700wx wouldnt be a bad idea either. I mean sure the idea of carrying around two PDA phones is a PITA, but you obviously get more than from the 600 you're with now. A simple flip phone wouldnt be that bad of an idea. I'm not sure you can sync these with your computer system as far as the tasks and calander goes but I know you can still use those features. You'll just haft to use T9 or iTap depending on what you get to input what you need. As you know, Moto's lineup is coming to sprint with the K1m, RAZR, SLVR and Q (not sure when this comes) so you also have those options next month as well. As far as Rev. A goes, you COULD always just hold out or get you a temp phone or just a regular phone to use until Rev.A comes out then sell it on here, ebay or however you want and buy one of those phones. If Rev. A is necessary to you tho.. if not dont waste your time.

It's pretty much up to you and what your needs are you know? Do you like the keyboard for text entry? Do you want a WM5 device or palm again? How much is Rev. A a MUST for you? If you look at getting a flip phone, think about how you use your 600 now and see if you'll be missing out on alot making the switch or if you can manage.

Honestly, I'd get the 700wx if you're going to go to a PDA phone, and a K1m, or M1 (when released) if you want a flip phone. If you want Rev. A like it being a MUST, just hold out with your 600 until those are released...

if your 600 works fine and has been meeting ur needs, why not just stick with it and save your money? If you have to upgrade, you could consider the 700p, since you're already familiar with the Palm OS. The good is that there's almost zero learning curve since you've already had a Treo with the Palm OS, and you're gaining a better camera, bluetooth, and faster internet access. If you're spoiled by the large screen, it'll prolly be hard to go to a normal phone, but it can be done.

If Skype is worth that much to you, go for one of the newer Treos. If not, just get a regular phone or just stick with what you've got.
