View Full Version : Sanyo 8400 has a MAJOR bad issue...

...and I'm pissed. :irked:
I just gave up my beautiful 7400 for the 8400 because I just had to have EVDO. Ok, someone tell me just how the heck I'm supposed to tell the difference between TEXT MESSAGES and VOICE MESSAGES when I see my icon?
There is no "T" or "V" to designate what type of messages I am getting so I have to open the phone, search for the message, find out what type it is and then retreive it!
Every other Sanyo phone has had this feature. What the heck went wrong with the 8400?

I would say this is truely an issue with my considerations of buying this phone..Im not sure on that, but I appreciate the info..

I agree on it being annoying, samsung shares a common message icon too.

Alot of newer phones don't have it anymore, they have the missed alerts menu to take place of that.

a missed alerts screen should pop up and allow you to hit a softkey to bring up said alerts shouldnt it ?

It shouldn't have to be that hard.
Plus, that alert disappears and what if you want to check the message later, well, you forget what it was.
Look, you can do alot to go around the feature and make the phone work for you but a simple thing like adding a T or a V would have been an awesome feature that, by the way, EVERY OTHER DAMN SANYO HAS HAD!! (Even the stupid KATANA has it!!!)
i hate you sanyo and i was with your mother last night.

The Fusic has different icons for voice SMS and text messaging.

you can change it to where the message pops up if its a text just go to settings/messaging /notification/message + icon or icon only...change it to message and icon

Then you should know that what you're proposing is an immediate check that will be useless once it goes away and you're sitting there with a blank envelope that tells you nothing.
You might be able to operate on a lack of information but I am a professional and I need, no I demand, my information!

this is not a "major bad issue". All modern Sanyo phones have removed this.
A simple way would be to check your text messages or voicemail before wondering why the arrow is there.
i don't think this is a "major issue". obviously you've never used an A900

Understood.
I've had the first analog Sanyo ever made and since then I've only bought Sanyos. (6 to date.) I just don't understand how they could take away a wonderful yet simple feature.
Again, why was it so hard to include the "T" and "V" in addition to the missed alerts as they did the Katana? I think it was a mistake that might be rectified some day. Who knows but I'm hoping and praying and writing my Congressman.
Thank you and good night. :wavey:

Oh, and that is where you are wrong.
Sprint and Sanyo owes every consumer their existance. We buy the phone that they make and if we didn't they wouldn't be around.
So, buy your toys and be happy with whatever you get even when you're not happy but I'll be voicing my opinions.

They may owe their existance, but you've purchased the product. Just because it doesn't meet your standards doesn't mean they owe you anything. You getting a refund isn't "Sprint owes me". That's you getting your money back because you weren't happy.
You won't even do that, you'd rather complain and keep it.

My phone went to a complete white screen Saturday night, I had to take the battery out to get the phone to restart, and text messages were delayed two hours later, never seen that before on a Sanyo. I can't wait for the M1. They took some short cuts on the 8400. The ringer deosn't ever say call from and give the name, I really liked that feature.

This thread is hilarious.
They cancelled the T, V, etc. feature and replaced it with an entire folder "Missed Alerts". You press the center key ("Ok") twice. Its not that hard so there is no need to be all dramatic about it. The 8400 isn't the first phone not to have it. The 5600 was the last time I saw those icons. I miss them too but pressing a button won't kill me. Take it back if you can't deal with it.

Katana doesn't have EVDO. Read my first post then go play outside.
I don't see what the big deal is. Just press up to open up "messaging", unless it's different on the 8400. pressing up brings up the messaging menu, which shows all the different types of messages you can receive. as long as that "blank envelope" is there at the top of your phone, if you go to messaging, it'll show the message and the number unread. For example:
"Text (1)"
or
"Voicemail (2)"
Geez...not really something to pi$$ and moan about.

So, if I have a Voice Message come in, instead of just pushing the number 1 and going directly to my mailbox I have to open the phone, go to message center, look down the list, and finally get my voice mail that will probably be Sanyo letting me know how stupid they were for taking out the "T" and the "V" in the first place!

a major issue on the 8400 is the camera picture light exposure problem, which could be considered a defect because of how many 8400 owners are reporting this issue, while a select few don't have it at all (so it seems)
this txt msg / voicemail visual alert , well ive never had a phone with this feature that the author of this thread thinks is a major issue when left out on the 8400
the vm4500/5500 didnt have it , and either did my 6000 or 6200 candybar/slimline sanyo's have it ...not really an issue to me

resolution seems to be, return it until u get an 8400 like RedVibratGT's that takes outdoor pictures in all sorts of bright direct /side/behind lighting situations
or return it for refund and step up to the M1 (if u are a sanyo fan and only stick with their product line) when it comes out hoping the 2.0mp camera is clean cut w/ no light exposure problems across the board

Yeah I hate to say it, but you gotta understand, you cant just take someone's word for it. Thats not how things work, and thats not how things would get fixed.

Ok my Sanyo 8300 I belive had the T and the V I know my 8200 did.. I can live without it I didn't realize this didn't have it.. I saw the missed alerts and knew it was somethig new but didn't really understand it at 1st cause I never had it. But on my 8200 and 8300 I forgot how I got it on the phone but I made up an extra folder for pages and when someone didn't leave me a voice mail and punched back in there number it would go to a separate folder and say please call so and so in a different folder then my text or voice mails did.. I forgot how I set that up now. Which I may not need that now since I have this missed alerts thing.. I need to play around with it and send myself a text a voice and a page.. I have missed alerts as a shortcut.
I love the 8400...

I actually own the Sanyo 8400, and I have to warn people that the title of this thread is a "MAJOR" exaggeration. :) People should not be scared away by this phone - it ROCKS!!!
What people need to know is that when you have a message, a notification screen comes up describing the message along with all the details you'd need, including who left a message and if it's voice/text, etc....
It's only after you read and dismiss this notification will you have to rely on the envelope icon.
So it's not a drawback after all, because at that point you already know specifically whether you got a voice message or text message, or a combination of both.
I almost bought another phone because of the originating post, which I feel is misleading.

This is exactly why I tell everyone to try out the phone themselves since we all have varying tastes.
