Hello,

Just picked up a blue 8400 last week, and I am really pleased with the phone itself, but need some help with some of the extras.

Media Player:
I put a folder of songs on the microSD card, via a card reader, and now all the songs are listed twice in the media player. The first version of each song has a "._" added to the beginning of the song, and it will not play, but the second listing will play just fine. Doing a get info on the bad files shows a size of 1KB, duration 0:00 and bit rate <no info>. Where did the duplicate files come from, and how do I get rid of them? By the way I am using a card reader with an Intel iMac. The phone will not show up on my desktop via the USB cable. Could this be a bug with the Mac? I used this same procedure to upload the same album to my wife's Fusic, and there are no duplicate (bad) files.

Ringers/Screen Saver:
I was able to use rumkin.com to upload an AAC ringer of Ren and Stimpy's Happy Happy Joy Joy song, and it worked just fine, but I can't seem to get any JPG's on the phone to use as a background picture. I just tried to upload a JPG using rumkin.com, and I got a "Data Error 907 Invalid Content" on the phone. I couldn't seem to get it on the phone using bluetooth, or the card reader either. Bluetooth seemed to send it, but it didn't show up anywhere, and the putting it in the DCIM, or Media folder on the MicroSD card seemed to work, but when I tried viewing the jpg, it just returns and error, (invalid file type, I believe.) Is there an easy, or not so easy way, to get pictures from my Mac to the phone?

Camera:
I have the camera problems. Most pictures taken in bright sunlight are totally messed up. I just exchaned my phone, and the new one does the same thing. I will wait another week or two, and if the camera doesn't fix itself, I will try another exchange, maybe by then they will have a second batch in. The salesman at the Sprint store swapped it right away, without even looking at the bad pics.

By the way, the bluetooth worked great moving my contacts from the Mac to the phone. Sent the whole group at once, wonderful! The reception is also great. Really do like the phone, just need to iron out a few kinks.

Thanks for any advice, and are there any tips / tricks I should know about when using the 8400 with a Macintosh?

Sorry for the long post,
Golfdogger.

I also swapped my first 8400 out because of a white balance camera issue. My second might be a little better but still seems to have the issue and I even went to a different Sprint store just in case there was a bad batch. I think it only happens in direct sunlight. I usually take pictures with no adjustments but I might adjust the picture mode to scenery or something else to see if that helps. I guess there might be a bad batch out there because some people say they haven't had any camera issues.

Also another quick question:

The phone has 60MB of internal memory correct? If so, how do I see what is in there, and how much is still available? I can find the free, and used memory on the Micro SD card, but can't seem to find it for the phone itself.

BTW, I picked up two 1GB sandisk MicroSD cards at BestBuy today (one for my 8400, and one for my wife's Fusic,) for $78.03 including tax, and that is before the 2 $10 rebates, which will bring down the cost to $58.03, not too bad me thinks.

Thanks again for any help,
Golfdogger.

shamefulzero,

Thanks for the quick reply on the memory, right where you said it would be.

I have a question about my 8400. The Mp3s play fine. But when I watch clips on Sprint TV or listen to podcasts, after about 7 minutes the phone will start vibrating and tell me to press a key to continue. After I press a key it goes back to the clip and so it is just a slight nuisance. But it always seems to occur after about 7 minutes of watching or listening to a clip. Does anyone know why this would happen? Thanks!

I'm thinking the testers of this phone were / are just super lazy and need to be fired...

That happens on the 8300 as well. It's a battery-saving "feature" (since Sprint TV uses lots of power).

This is normal. Just a battery saver. Does it on my 8400 and did it on my a900 too. It just checks to make sure you did not fall asleep watching your phone. :D

Thanks ABQNM. So you had the a900 and now you have the 8400? How would you compare these two phones. I liked the a900 at first but some people told me it had too short battery life and I guess it also lacks a micro sd slot. Does your Power Vision work well in Albuquerque? Thanks.

Well... I liked my a900, but with the exception of size and form factor, the 8400 wins hands down. Better build quality. Less bugs. Great speaker phone and great battery life. Screen looks amazing as it is QVGA, but in a smaller space, so it is sharper. The a900M is the phone to have if you have the a900, that fixed many of the issues with the first gen a900, but if none of that bothers you, then the a900 is fine.

As far as Power Vision in Albuquerque? It works well, but only when I am sleeping. I guess that is because that is the only places it exists, in my dreams. Nowhere in New Mexico has PV yet. Maybe some day.
