Power Vision is on the ev do broadband network where vision is on the 1x network. Think of it as dsl and dial up.

Okay I understand that...high speed/slow speed. Now here's a question for you. If I sign up for the Power Vision/evdo broadband stuff....but my phone is in an area where the powervision signal isn't available but the old normal Vision service IS...will my new super phone (like the sanyo 8400, or the blade or fusic...) be able to change it's connection speed and revert back to the old 1x "dialup speed" so that I can surf the web when the powervision isn't available?
whew.
I really want to know about this because I'm thinking of getting many new phones and restarting my plan. I want to get the 8400 (I've got an old 8200 now), and my wife and daughter have their eyes on the LG Fusic. Only problem is that our home is NOT in an area where Power Vision is capable at this time...but lots of surrounding areas are. So my worry is that if the phone canNOT use the slower connection speeds then I won't be able to connect to the internet with the phone at home at all. Which would suck.
Any feedback will be helpful, thanks.

Yes it reverts back to regular vision when power vision isn't available.

Nice concise answer on the cell phone

Would you like to clarify this? I believe you are confused.

Ok, I am reading this thread and I'm still a bit confused. Doesn't take much with me lol.
Anyway, I cracked the outer flip screen on my Sanyo 8300 two nights ago. :( I am really, really happy with Sanyo and would like to stay with them so I was looking at the 8400.
Powervision seems neat, like another poster above had said it's like DSL for your cell phone.
I ask this because I'm on an old vision plan that vision is $10 a month and includes sending and receiving of pic mail and videos free.
I looked in the sticky and it says that with the smallest powervision pack, you have to pay for pics and video sending. So basically I lose what I had on my old vision plan if I'm correct and have to start paying extra? I'm wondering if I'd be better off with my plain old vision? :(
Thanks in advance. Sorry for my still apparant confusion. :wavey:

PV+ is $20. PV is really fast.a personal choice
he you use vision alot you will love PV for $10 more.

There are two possible outcomes for someone in your position. You will either be able to keep your original plan and pay the same and still get your picture mail for free, or you will be forced to upgrade to a true Power Vision plan, thus spending more money per month but you will get to enjoy the benefits of Power Vision.
My suggestion to you is that you purchase the phone outright from a store and activate it by calling retention. In the past Retention would activate a Power Vision phone and allow you to keep your existing plan. Though I cant promise that to this day they will still do this, they did do it in the past so it's worth a shot. If nothing else they will likely give you a discounted Power Vision package so you wont have a HUGE jump in cost.
The other option is to purchase the phone at a store and have them activate it right then and there. If you do this you can count on the Sales Rep immediately changing your plan to a full cost Power Vision plan.
Good Luck.

Thank you both so much.
I did upgrade my phone tonight and I talked to Sprint and worked out a deal.
Before tonight I had my old vision plan which gave me:
- Unlimited Text Messaging option for $5.00; &
- PCS Vision Pack which includes Unlimited Vision and Picture Mail Services for $10.00.
Hence, total charge comes out to be as $15.00.
---------
Then, after talking to Sprint online, they worked out a plan which is this:
1. PCS Power Vision Picture Pack for $10.00 (they will add the $10.00 discount option against the charge of the $20.00 PCS Power Vision Picture Pack, having the total charge comes out to be as $10.00);
2. The Unlimited Text Messaging option just for $8.00 instead of $15.00.
So, total charge comes out to be as $18.00.
---------
It's three dollars more, but that's not bad at all, so I feel alot better about losing my old vision plan. :)

Retention gave me the ppc6700 (two of em, actually) for the new customer price ($250? 300? - less $100 rebate on each, pretty good deal), $10 Powervision on both phones (normally $15+$15) and free 500 txt msgs on both. Net cost to plan was actually a reduction (switched to a family plan, got 550 min and N&W@7pm national roaming for less then then old $40/500 min + $20 addaphone) in my monthly cost.
I bought the phones directly from retention - they shipped em to me.
Since the PPC6700 doesn't do picturemail or some of the other wizzy PowerVision stuff the bottom PV is all you want or need or can use, but man it's a sweet phone/data plan. After using Vision/PictureMail with a samsung A620 for two+ years (which I hardly ever used since surfng was brutal with the numberpad entry and dog slow when it worked at all) surfing and real email w/photos attached is very nice indeed.
Bottom line, call *2, say "cancel" - then explain to the rep that you'd like to update your 2+ year old vision phone, but it seems like every new plan is now $20 more for less features, so instead you're thinking of canceling and going with someone else... they should transfer you to someone else, where you can explain it all again. Usually they're quite reasonable and will give you ballpark the price new subscribers pay for a new phone, and some breaks on the PV/SMS costs.

Ok, So I have been thinking about upgrading to one of the new Power Vision phones too and I've been wondering what that will do to my vision plan. I've been reading this and other threads and thought I would contact Sprint to see what they said - Tell me if you think this Cust. Serv. Rep was right -
I was told that if I upgrade my PHONE, my vision stays the same as long as I don't make any changes to the PLAN - and the "internet access" would be the same - I really don't care about the Sprint TV and Music store and all that I just want what I have but with a new phone. (maybe the faster speed would be nice)
I currently have the $15 Picture Pack that includes 100 text messages and the $5 download credit, plus $5 for Video mail. I don't want to lose the text or the download credit just by upgrading my phone - from what it sounds like from everyone on here, I'll have to swing a deal with retentions to do that.
Can anyone enlighten me - because now I'm starting to confuse myself! :irked:

if you get a new phone that just does vision, then yes that would be the case - if you get any "power vision" phone, you'll have to change to PV. That's the same boat I was in...

Thats what I was afraid of. So are there any retention tips/tricks for hanging on to some of those benefits of my old vision plan?
I only use a couple dozen text messages per month and only send a few pics/videos. I get online most days at lunch to read some Yahoo news headlines and thats about it. Man I wish there was a reasonable "pay per use" for those things...
Hmmmm....

If you get rep with access to the P2K system, you do NOT have to change to PV, even with a PV phone.

I'm trying to get the Sanyo M1 when it gets out and that's power vision and I have the old old vision plan that is included in the plan when it first come out but I got 2 phones under my plan so they told me I only have to add power vision for that particular phone and the rest still the same, can someone clarify that to me or someone knows the phone for retention so I can call, I heard a lot about retention but never call or don't know the inf. :wavey: :wavey: :wavey:

I decided to email a bit back and forth with Sprint e-Care to try and get an answer - If i upgrade and pick the Power Vision Plus package and the $5 300 SMS plan they offered me a $10 monthly credit for the length of my new contract. I think that is pretty fair and am happy with that. Now I have to decide if I want the RAZR, KRZR or Samsung m500!
