Anyone have any news on M1 or 9000 replacement, thought I would start a new thread since the other one is very lenghty.

The one thing that I hope is that Sprint doesn't come out with a 9100 or something and that the M1 is not just an additional series.
The people that have the M1 right now have to be the techs in the lab that are testing the M1 before launch trying to get it ready and work all the bugs. When I worked for Sprint I use to go visit the lab all the time to see all the new phones. Some of the phones get major interface changes before they launch during there testing.

I doubt there will be a 9100. I also doubt the M1 is a replacement for anything. This will be Sanyo's 1 year hiatus on a high end model handset. Its suppose to have 1G of memory internally (no memory slot that I've read about) and a 2MP camera. The camcorder is suppose to be revised too. The cost will be close to $400 (379) for non contract customers. From the pics it is nice but pretty thick. I'll be purchasing one as soon as it hits. Ive read reports of November but highly unlikely. First quarter of next year most likely.

I hope it comes out in November, but Sprint hasn't released anything yet, maybe I can nose around on moms intranet this week when I go visit.

I did a google search for "Sanyo M1" and there is nothing specific on the specs except a launch date that seems to be collaborated. of NOv 5.
This is from:
http://news.softpedia.com/news/1-Gigabyte-of-Sanyo-M1-Going-to-Sprint-36220.shtml
Sanyo has designed for all you Sprint users out there a new Power Vision clamshell, the Sanyo M1, with an astonishing 1 gigabyte of on-board storage. I guess theyre trying to make their customers move in front of the Sprint retailing stores, until the release of the M1.
And, did I mention that the future Sprint cell phone will have a design which will make it a part of your dreams for quite a long time from the moment you'll get to see it? Apart from its stylish design, bellow the display, the M1 seems to have some kind of an iPod scroll-wheel of some sort, or some music playback collection of control buttons. Even if Sanyo hasn't been known for releasing mobile phones that enchant the eyes of the users, this time, they did a good job with the M1, at least from what it can be seen from such a small picture.
The handset has all the stuff a multimedia maniac would want from a mobile phone, an impressive 262k colors 240x320 QVGA internal display and an external 262k colors 128x96 screen, a 2 megapixel camera, microSD expansion memory card slot, Bluetooth with A2DP system, GPS, MP3 player, Readylink and EV-DO.
As in many cell phones that come in with style and huge packs of features, the M1 just couldn't be perfect. It has a major drawback in its competition with other multimedia phones: its huge thickness (these days) of 27 to 29 millimeters.
Official information about the phone's release or price hasnt been released by neither Sanyo nor Sprint, but rumors say the device will be launched some time around November 2006.

1. It will be out in November
2. It is nowhere near 27mm thick...much slimmer...
3. The current photo, while small, is accurate
4. The 9000 series is no more
5. It will set the standard for Sprint MM phones

Every published article on the M1 indicates it is appromixately 27mm (1.15 inches) thick.
If you have published information that contradicts that, please post.

Yes, but it looks like the source for all of those articles came from one point of origination...either here or HoFo. One person mentioned 27mm and it spread to all of the sites.

Heck, even if it is 27mm thick, for those of us coming from a 9000 that are actually used to the size are not going to have a problem at all... I'll take smaller if they'll give it to me, but I won't cry about it if it's not... I just want to be able to hold this phone in my hand, finally :) It's been way too long since I've bought a new toy...

Will the M1's camera struggle in low light like all the other Sanyo camera phones (except the 5300)? Do you know if it will be out early Nov., mid Nov., late Nov.? Hopefully it comes out before my 30 days is up with my 8400 and if not that's ok because I needed a change and I have a few rebates coming in Dec. Might just keep the 8400 as a backup if I like the M1 better. One last question does the hinge click when you open and close it like the 8400 and is there a battery cover?

And my 5500, with extended battery and leather cover, are around 38mm -- not even counting the belt clip. Even at 27mm it would be thinner than what I've got.

Yeah but who puts a phone in their pocket with a leather case and belt clip attached?
Only phone I can really compare it to is my old 7400 which was 29mm. I used to carry that in my pocket with no problem. If it's thinner than that I'll be pleased.

I agree about the thickness. Even with the photo being a bit fuzzy, the top edge of the phone just doesn't look 1" thick to me, my guess would be more like 5/8ths to 3/4" max. But thickness really doesn't matter to me after seeing that picture.... this phone looks SHARP imo, clean and classy, thanks Josh! Nice size external display as well. I really want this phone now, especially since my 9000 fried and I'm back to my 'ol 7400. Let me see.... the 7400 to the M1, yeah, that would be a upgrade.

That's what I got and I'm with you 7400 to M 1 I can't wait
I agree about the thickness. Even with the photo being a bit fuzzy, the top edge of the phone just doesn't look 1" thick to me, my guess would be more like 5/8ths to 3/4" max. But thickness really doesn't matter to me after seeing that picture.... this phone looks SHARP imo, clean and classy, thanks Josh! Nice size external display as well. I really want this phone now, especially since my 9000 fried and I'm back to my 'ol 7400. Let me see.... the 7400 to the M1, yeah, that would be a upgrade.

If I were you, I would NOT get the 8400 at this point, I would wait, but this is just my opinion. Assuming the 11/5 release date sticks, that's only 4 weeks away, and more info/pics on this phone has to surface any day now to check out. Trying to see if I should get the 8400 or wait for the M1If you take a lot of pictures and you want a good camera then I would probably wait for the M1 since it's going to have a 2mp, but if the camera is not that important to you get the 8400 and save probably a $100 bucks. I'm pretty sure you have 30 days to return a new phone. Even if the M1 is not out 30 days from now there should be some real information by then.

Im tired Of people saying that the 8400 is the Upgrade to the 9000, because its not... common sense its an 8 series fone , 8100 > 8200> 8300> 8400 , 7300 >7400>7500 and soon to be the 7000 which is sorta like their prequal, 5500>5600> 9000 (ok that time it wasnt so apparent to see) but 5500>5600>9000 i mean come on look at the form factor... the 5 series is always the highest sanyos in sprint at the time and the 8 is like the tag along little brother for mid range folk, m1 is going to b the highest Sanyo out at the end of 06, m1 is probably the closest we'll get to a 5700/9100 thats my idea

if you go by features, and not numbers, the 8400 is 100x better then the 9000 would ever be. thats the truth, and if people dont wanna accept that, thats their own problem. Features are what make phones upgrades, not looks/style/model numbers.
By that logic, the M500 is not the upgrade from the A700, because the model number is lower.

I agree with you Deval that model numbers sometimes dont mean anything but what i meant was like its more correct to say that the 8400 is more upgraded than the 9000 then to just say that the 8400 is the upgrade to the 9000, thats like sayin the sanyo 8300 is the upgrade to the sanyo 3100 even though they're 2 different series. The 8400 form factor alone is a upgrade from the 9000 not to mention the 8400 has more memory, bluetooth, can save contacts to the sd card etc. The 8400 has more features then the 9000 plain and simple. Not really im just anticipating the m1, My only concern is if it has expandable memory, like Deval and others mentioned, the m1 has 1gb of internal memory which means theres a possibility that theres no expandable memory, and if there isnt then i'll b madd that i wasnt one of the first guys to pick up the 8400, because god knows sprint wont released a high end sanyo for another 6 months after the m1

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I heard that the 8400 does not have voice recognition software that the 9000 has, and only has a 65k screen, rather than the 262k screen on the 9000. If I am correct, with the 8400, you can program only 30 voice tags, where as with the 9000 you have access to all of your contacts with voice recognition. What other features does the 8400 have that the 9000 doesn't besides bluetooth? Anyone know if the M1 will have voice to text software like the high end Samsung phones? I have owned every power vision phone, except the A960, and it seems like every phone is lacking something that another has, vise versa. To me, the Sanyo phones are the best, mostly because of the loud speaker volumes, and more importantly, they work, with little or no software/hardware issues! I was going to try an 8400, but it seems like a downgrade from the 9000, aside from the bluetooth.

The M1 is a high end phone, tiered above the 8400, yet the 8400 has the ability to have TWICE the amount of internal memory. Not a smart decision in my book... kinda irks me because I really was looking forward to the M1. 1gb doesn't even hold 200 songs at VBR. Lame for a phone that's appearing to be aimed as a phone+mp3 player.

i deal with mp3's and waves on a weekly basis. i am a dj, and play out a lot of tunes i get transferred to me over aim, and a 6 minute 320k/sec mp3 is about 16 megs. to think a file that is around 3% of the original filesize sounds good is preposterous. i play these tunes in clubs, with sound that's good, balanced, and LOUD. the main club i play at has a superb rig, and will show any shortcomings of every file i get. i won't even play a 224k/sec mp3, as it sounds lifeless at 130+ db.
so yeah, expandable memory is pretty crucial to bill this phone as a true music phone, though apple is making it work...

because 1gb of internal memory should be enough?
also, your post makes no sense...if it offers more then the 9000, you will pass it up?
Not true, 1gb is not enough. I need more than 1 gb for pics, apps, ringtones and mp3s. How many people do you know carry a phone, a camera and/ or an mp3 player? That's something I don't wanna do. One device for all is what I need. I am tired of moving mp3s around (I have 2 gb of mp3s I like to carry with me all the time ). Do you realize that you will have a 2 mp camera on this phone? I also don't wanna be (or wanna bother) messing with the mp3s. I like them the way they are. Let me know how you do with all that.
Regarding my post let me clear it: If it doesn't offer more than the 9000 I am not interested.

All you guys crack me up. 1gb. not enough? You all know your gonna buy this phone when it comes out. My question is I read a quote by someone saying they have the M1 sitting on their desk. I know if I did there would be about 200 pics. I would post of it in every angle I could imagine. Some people just gotta try and be the 1st and foremost I guess but in doing so lose alot of credibility!

1gb of internal is plenty (for internal memory!), but no option for expandable memory on such high-end, hyped phone that is supposed to be the end all be all replacement for the MM series of phones from Sanyo .... tsk tsk
w/o that option, the phone with blue led backing on the buttons and 2.0mp camera and no rev A should be right around the 8400 price point or maybe right at 299.99
It is a make or break feature in my decision to go get an M1, ..yeah the styling will be kick ass, even if it's thicker than some would like to see it (katana, blade) but I have a lil over 60% of the 2 gig mem card in my 8400 full , some short music videos that are 20mb and the rest are 196 or 256k quality mp3's ... I would never compress them down (further than they already are in mp3 format!) because I can tell the difference in my car because of the amount & quality of my midrange's, high's and the sub's that are in my car allow me to feel the low end and hear the highs that get cut out in song compression, (heck I can even notice the jump from 256 to 320, guess my ears are sensitive)
also, i don't condone sharing music, harr harr, but for example one could use the micro to mini adapter (or the usb connect cable) and load mp3's on to a computer of a family member or friend's (especially at a house party) and do u think they want some compressed even further, lossy mp3 that is at like 96 or 112k quality... doubtful unless they really have f'd up hearing and can't notice that it sounds like an FM radio broadcast.
w/o official specs, my hopes for the M1 is a 2.0mp camera that doesn't have the light exposure issues that most of the 8400's have, functionality we know most sanyo's to have out of the box, and an expandable memory slot
just my 2 cents

encoded with an AAC+ codec, it sounds the same. Not sure how bad your ears are, but mine are pretty damn good, and it sounds great. I even run it through my car radio, and it sounds good.

When new phones come out are they eligable for the $150 upgrade (if you've had your phone for 22 months) and the 30-100 dollar rebate that a lot of the other phones have?
I was going to get the 8400 which would be 99 bucks after all the discounts...but if the M1 will be around the same price after discounts, I will hold off.

definitely not so much through the speakerphone where I can def. see your point about compression down to 800kb not mattering much in terms of SQ

i've ran it, and it sounds decent...then again, i have a stock 6 speaker system in my car, not a $3000 setup you know? My point. I have a maxima wih bose premium sound system and i can hear the difference. At work I have high end headphones and listen to it all day so sound quality is important to me. I also would be tired of listning to the same songs everyday if I was not able to switch my 2 SD cards my 5600. I don't enjoy it. I wanted to get rid of this POS A900 to go back to Sanyo. Nothing like having the bluetooth be fuzzy, or constantly restart your phone. But after going slim, I really don't want to brick phones.
I'm not a Sanyo basher, out of 5 phones I've had, the A900 was the first non Sanyo phone I've used. I was just hoping with the emergance of the Katana, Sanyo would try and go high end with the slim phones.
Katana? No EVDO
Go with the Fusic? Too cheap and plastic, plus too small of screen.
KRZR? yay, lets have a phone everyone and their mothers have (literally)
I guess I'll be forced to get the M1 no matter how, because if my a900 restarts on me one more time I'll be forced to run it over with my Firebird. :woohoo:

It doesn't qualify as a superb rig, but who listens to music through the speaker of a phone? Obviously 1 speaker is not a good listening experience, that's why they include earbuds. I think those that use their phone as an mp3 player, use the aux-in, in their car stereo recievers to listen to their tunes. As an alternate, they might use their home stereo equipment. Point is, most people will use an amplifying method to listen to their music in real stereo sound.
To the guy who thought a 4 minute song should be compressed to 800kb... :bang:

I love it how the really geeky and lonely techies on here are quick to say that what you feel sounds good to you actually doesn't. Like you'd read their post and say "wow, he's right, I really am NOT hearing what I thought I was". Thanks for the vote! It just irks me. I was at work today and this guy wanted a 700wx. Well, this co-worker of mine who will remain nameless, tells the guy, "you don't want the wx, windows mobile is not very user-friendly compared to the palm". Now he knows next to nothing about these phones and only says that because I say that to people who dont' know the differences (I say it because I have the palm and love it). Now the guy turns and looks at him and says "Well, maybe, but I've used both and for me, the Windows platform is what I prefer". My co-worker just goes, "Ok, whatever then" with this tone like the guy was screwing himself, like saying "Ok, fine, touch that hot burner then if you say it won't hurt". After the guy left I said "Man, you have to realize that to some people, WX IS better, you can't convince them they've been clueless for years". LOL Jesus, let people have their choice.
Then to top it off, they actually seemed MAD that deval said it sounded fine, like he'd come to their personal home, rang the doorbell, and when the door opened he'd just pissed on their shoes. How can you get mad at someone for saying it sounds fine to them? Oh it irks me.

now im just twiddling my thumbs in anticipation of a firm release date, maybe some actual real hands on pics of the phone / preview from someone and maybe a firm price point.
my hope is that it's released before the Wii and Ps3 in November (17th and 19th) I have preorders I need to pay the rest off on and sell those suckas off right before christmas to parents who spoil their brats no matter what the cost.
