Got 2 sanyo phones here.. Roomie has the 3100, (which can't pull in a signal as well as mine), I have the 8100 - waiting for 8400 to upgrade, (and waiting for BUG reports before getting one).

Have a question.. Someone at work was talking about cell phone batteries the other day. Said that a tech told him that shutting down at night, and turning the phone on in the moring takes a lot of power and weakens the battery over the life time of it. And that its better to just leave it on at night and turn the ringer to vibrate, or turn it off..

Is that true? The reason I ask is because I work nights, sleep mornings and got tired of calls waking me up during the middle of "my" night.. I mean, thats what I have voice mail for.

Any info appreacated.. thanks.

As for the 8100, its been the best phone I have had yet, (3 so far).. Only hope the 8400 lives up to, and goes beyond the high standards that my 8100 has.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (MobilePhone SCP-6600/US/1.0) NetFront/3.1 MMP/2.0)

My phone stays on 24/7. When I'm airborne or in a telemetry zone at the hospital where I work, instead of powering-off I switch it to airplane mode. I seem to get pretty decent longevity from my phone batteries.

I forgot to say that my last three phones have all been Sanyos:

SCP-6400 > RL-4920 > Blue Katana

I don't have a landline at home so all we have is mobile phones. Mine is on 24 hours a day. I put in on the charger when I go to sleep and off in the morning. I've done this with every phone I've had. Never had an issues with any of them.

you should powercycle it once a day.

i do it when i wake up.

saturday, i leave it off while i sleep (to sleep once, obviously)

i usually don't turn it on until sunday morning around noon or 1.

powercycling is important. my routine doesn't do anything special though. except my 9000 shoots candy whenever i do it perfect.

Power cycling is great! BUT I dont understand how, "if you turn your phone off" how it weakens your battery...anyone know exactly WHY?

i think it falls into the myth that "turning on causes more power to be used" but with battery powered electronics it just ain't true.

maybe though.. ;)

Well, for computers, it takes a significant amount of power to boot them up, which is why it's recommended that you keep it on all the time, or at least keep it on during the day, and turn it off at night, even if it's not being used. I personally keep my computer on 24/7. However, it's not just the power source that suffers from constant shutdowns/bootups. It's also the processor and the hard drive and all that good stuff.

As for battery powered objects, I'm not sure if this is true. I mean, I'm sure it makes the processor of the phone work a little harder, but I don't really think it would do anything to the battery.

I personally keep my phone on all the time, too, because I want to be able to take an important call if it wakes me up. Even if I didn't want calls at night, though, I'd still keep it on because I would like to see the calls that come in on the calls list. True, you can just rely on voicemail, but my friends don't always leave a voicemail, and I like to be able to know who to call back in the morning.

Why is power cycling important?

I too keep both my computer and pc on 24/7. There's just no reason to cut either one of them off really. Now, every now and then I have to reboot my pc due to some update and I do on occasion power cycle my phone. But for the most part, they both stay on all the time.

I keep my phone on 24/7 too. I power cylce it once a day as well to reboot it like a computer. You can silence the ringer if you need to. When you first get the phone I alwasy charge the battery fully before I start using the phone. I think it helps the phone battery life.

I have had people recomeend charging the battery completely, then drain it completely then recharge before use. Never had the patience to do that before using a new phone.
