Post only 8400 camera pictures in this thread. :)

The 8400 camera seems pretty good so far but wish it was a 2 mp. Pictures taken 640 X 480 with no adjustments.

I think it's a tad to early to be making judgements on the 8400 camera quality. I don't have my 9000 anymore but looking back at some of my 9000 pictures and comparing them to some 8400 pictures, so far I can't see a noticeable difference between the two.

come to think of it. I had this happen on my a900 before. I ended up just retaking the pic and changed the angle again. It worked out fine.

I wouldnt exchange it just yet. You have 30 days right? I would keep playing with it and then if you find another problem then return it. Since you have seemed to fix the problem you had.

I went into a Sprint store today to see if I might have a defective battery cover. The rep took the battery cover off and put it back on. After that the cover wasn't coming off like it did before and it looks like it's more snug. I thought I had the cover locked but I guess not. I deleted everything on my phone thinking I would swap it out for another one but I think mine is fine now. I was smart and saved my contacts on my computer from the sd card. I restored my contacts with no problems. Nice feature.

Why Are The Pics Coming Out Green Like That???

Not sure why. I had the white balance set to sunny so it might be a bug with that or it might just be a bad camera design glare or a defective camera, all speculation. I wasnt happy cause I thought I got some nice pictures of the river. Dont think it will be a deal breaker for me if it's the way the camera is cause I think I like the phone to much. Maybe a software update could fix it?

tbaker was the fusic betterI'm not sure if your asking me which camera is better between the Fusic and the 8400 or which phone is better?

It's still kinda early and I've been known to change my mind a lot but even if there is a issue with the 8400's camera I still will probably keep it because I like the QVGA display, size/build better then the Fusic.

It's suposed to be another sunny day today so I will try to take the same pictures I did yesterday without putting the white balance to sunny to see if that might be the issue.

The only thing I changed is put the quality on "fine." Its set at 1.3 megapixels. Of course I shrank the pics down a lot, way to big if not, but they were just as clear big. I am very happy with the quality much better than my blade I think.

I already put this post in the 8400 reviews thread but I since we talked about it in this thread I'll post it again.

It's a nice sunny day in Ohio today so I just took around 30 pictures with my 8400 at a river and they all turned out bad. :irked: This is the second time this has happened and a another user had the same camera issue. I would like to know if this is a issue with all 8400's or just maybe a bad batch so if people can test it, I would appreciate it.

15 pictures were set at 1.3 resolution quality fine and the other 15 were set at 640 x 480 quality fine as well. They all looked just as bad. I took some pictures with the white balance set to sunny and cloudy and they turned out bad as well.

Kinda looks like there is a rainbow but there wasn't

I have taken about 50 pics all perfect, but will update on this.Well I guess you might be a professional photographer if you got all 50 pictures to turn out "perfect". lol :joke: Make sure that your taking the pictures outside when it's a nice day. Also when I take pictures outside on a sunny day I usually always have the sun behind me so it doesn't glare the picture. I've taken some really nice pictures with the 8400 but just annoyed that for some reason I've been taking a lot of bad pictures lately.

thanks

I'm going to have my 8400 swapped out to see if I get the issue with another one. I'll going to go to a different store just incase the store I got my first 8400 has some bad ones. Sometimes it sucks when you buy the first batch of phones because I think there prone to have some issues.

no green ones yet NONAME?I just spoke to Noname and he said that he had a similar issue with the 5600. We think that it could be a issue with the Macro mode possible getting stuck in the middle or maybe a issue turning the Macro mode on when the camera is on.

This is what I'm going to do, when the camera is not on I'm going to put it in Macro mode then back to non macro mode then I'm going to start the camera and pull the battery and leave it off for a few minutes. I'm going back to the river to take some more pictures and I'm going to send them to Noname. Hopefully the weather is the same as before. If they turn out crappy like the ones I've posted I'm going to swap it out. I post results later.

Well I got my 8400 replaced and I'm not sure if the camera is better on my 2nd 8400. I took about 20 pictures with my new one and the pictures do look better but I'm not sure if it was because the sun was almost down. I did get a few bad ones like my first 8400. I just think the 8400's camera might be a little wacky with the white balance exspecially water shots.

I took all these pictures below with my new 8400 set to 1.3mp resized to 640x480 quality fine.

I do like the 8400 as well, I can be over critical at times but it's a perfect size not to big not to small and it's solid. For some reason I really like how it clicks when you open and close it.

i'm disappointed in some shots I took today, it seems the camera is really iffy when direct light is involved or it's making some decisions on contrast/color based on the amount of light within the shot... seems a pink hazy hue or the greenish/bluish contrast occurs on different shots aside from the first one

Yea that's what I've been saying the white balance is wacky out in the sun. When I swapped out my first 8400 one rep said that I should always take pictures with the flash on. I thought she was silly for saying turn the flash on when your outside and it's bright sunny day but I'm going to try it out.

I think we should all call Sanyo and maybe there could be a software update for it. For now I'll just take a lot pictures and hopefully I get a few that turn out good.

I sure hope the camera on the M1 has no camera issues but like I said in another thread I think it still will. It probably won't be better then the 800 and it will still struggle in low light but hopefully I'm wrong. :fingers:

The picture with the Apples in it (with the Macro on) came out kind of nice. And a few others came out resonably well for a 1.3 Megapixel camera, also. But other then that, yuck.

Maybe the K750i has just spoiled me or something.

It really reminds me of looking back on pic's from my parents past circa late 60's into the 70's when negatives were the basis for slides/photo-prints and really was dependent upon the processor

hopefully an update on s/w can solve this ... would hate to see a total recall done, sorta like what happened to all the first vm4500/5500 owners who shelled out a lot of dough to be first in line to get one, the Rev1a's of those dropped in and out of service notoriously when going to voicemail or exiting out of it ... almost a yr down the line, sprint finally admitted something was wrong.

In this case, it's a lot easier to prove the point...hard evidence in the outdoor pictures

oh and on a side note..how long can u wait from day of purchase to return a phone for a direct replacement ... 30 days ? or 15 ?Thanks for the number but custormer service was a joke. The lady said to send my phone to her and it would take 10-15 days to figure out the problem and they would replace it if they found a problem. I told her most if not all 8400's are having the same issue and that I swapped it out already and still having the issue. She still didn't get it and said there was nothing else she could do. I ask to speak to a supervisor and the supervisor said the same thing. Then I told her that I had a issue awhile ago and was pleased with the custormer service but not happy what she was telling me. I told her that I was probably going to return the phone and never buy a Sanyo phone again. lol I'm not sure if I will return it at this time because I really like the phone. I gave her the web address to this post. I think I remeber awhile back I was the one that got Sanyo started on a software update for the 5300 to increase the earpiece volume but I think there custormer service was better back then.

all i can say is eh...
All I can is brick. :hee: Even with the 8400 camera white balance issue I would much rather have a 8400 then a 9000 because it's compact, has bluetooth, more memory, backup contacts on sd card, better earpiece (subjective), longer battery life, and last but not least a normal designed phone that is solid but to each of his own. I can see why people want to wait for the M1 but it's going to be kinda funny if it's camera has a similar issue or not any better in low light. I'm just wondering if the price difference between the 8400 and M1 will be worth it. We all pick phones apart to find there flaws but we have to remeber phone first toy second.

Well you say that about every new phone you get remeber the Katana. :p I wish you could change the d-pad buttons becaue I probably won't use the left or the right d-pad buttons. I do like the 8400 as well, I can be over critical at times but it's a perfect size not to big not to small and it's solid. For some reason I really like how it clicks when you open and close it.

Hey I'm not sure if you forgot about my friend that wants to buy your Fusic? SCP-5500 Recall? When was this? Never heard of any official word.

Anyway...

I'm sorry the 8400 is going through this. The camera looks good, the problem is a screwed up white balance. This is weird... but in some ways pretty cool? I guess it's a "Picture effect" LOL

When my Sprint store first got our Demo, I played with it for a few days. The demo seemed to turn all pictures green in high light situations. If I swapped the picture mode to sunny, this seemed to help. I got my personal 8400 two days ago and this one seems to be fine. I have had no problems at all with the green pics. I am a little disappointed that the shutter speed seems to be very slow. I have been trying to take pictures of my fish and the stupid things won't stay still so I can get a good pic. Other than that, the camera quality seems to be pretty good.

as for the green picture issue, there is a setting under the camera options to change the color of the picture...i think it's under fun tools or something like that....could that be the result of the pictures turning out green?

SCP-5500 Recall? When was this? Never heard of any official word.

Anyway...

Sprint is aware of a hardware issue affecting a significant number of Sanyo 5500/VM4500 units. These units have trouble placing outgoing calls, causing the phone to go into a redialing loop. In addition, some affected units may have trouble receiving incoming calls or text messages. Units suffering from this problem will pass the HP Test diagnostic used in Sprint Stores to diagnose problems usually associated with these symptoms.
Hardware revision 201 was released to solve these problems. If under the Phone Info menu you have a revision earlier than 201, and are suffering from these problems, take your phone to the nearest Sprint Store and request a replacement. It may also be helpful to print this page out and take it with you to the store, as not all Sprint employees and affiliate stores are fully informed in regards to this service bulletin.

yes, i realize this was from pcsintel

http://kb.pcsintel.com/index.php?title=Sanyo_%28Sprint%29#Sanyo_5500.2FVM 4500

but , when i went into the store to return my early 5500, the manager knew of the memo/bulletin and had a couple of other handsets returned and replaced with newer 5500's ... so I believed the recall to be fact .

dang all of these pics look pretty good. well minus the green and red 80's lookin pics.
sanyo did always have a way of making their cameras pretty dang decent for being on a phone. though since ive had my 900, and now my sidekick 3, i dont think i could deal with the resolution being 1024 by 1280. especially seeing as real cameras take pictures wider rather than taller. but i guess you can turn your phone sideways? haha

Has anyone compared the 8400 pics to the pics of a Treo 700p? All these pics look way better (resolution wise) than my 700.I don't have a lot of 700p pictures to compare to my 8400. Both phones I think have some issues taking pictures outside occasionally. Don't have any indoor pictures with the 700p but the 8400 is not bad. I think the 8400 pictures are a little sharper. If you want a good camera and don't mind speding a litlt more money, I sugest to wait for the M1 or the 610 to see how they are since there 2mp but more pixels doesn't always mean better quality.

I've gotten the random out-of-this-world green/black photo but it's not 100% replicable :irked: Haven't had any bright days really so I can't fully test the issue. These photos are straight from the camera without editing/finessing:

Bad photo (this is a pale blue sky with white clouds):

My cat, sitting in the windowsill staring at something. He twitches and moves quite a bit when I am taking photos, and the 8400's camera shutter speed is too slow to compensate as you can see from the blurriness:

A while back, I purchased a blue 8400. For a short while the pics came out good and I thought I got lucky by getting an 8400 without the camera problems, but eventually the dark green outside picture problem surfaced. I remember reading on here that changing the picture mode to night/dark would help, and I did this and it did in fact cure the problem, but I just got fed up with having to do that everytime and took the phone back.

I must be doing something wrong, because I can't seem to get my 8400 to produce pictures anywhere near as nice as the ones in this thread.

Click on the thumbnails to view these in full detail.

Here's the first one I ever shot on default settings. A bit blurry, and theres that kind of pixely rainbow mess effect in a lot of the lighter areas of the background.
http://img95.imageshack.us/img95/1982/840a0001dq4.th.jpg (http://img95.imageshack.us/my.php?image=840a0001dq4.jpg)

Similar issues with this one.
http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/7872/840a0003pe4.th.jpg (http://img440.imageshack.us/my.php?image=840a0003pe4.jpg)

This one just turned out horrible, and I thought it'd be better since it was outside and had a bit more light (though it was fairly cloudy)
http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/2075/840a0008pu0.th.jpg (http://img141.imageshack.us/my.php?image=840a0008pu0.jpg)

I tried turning the quality setting up to fine, but it didn't seem to help much:
http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/1112/840a0020jv4.th.jpg (http://img411.imageshack.us/my.php?image=840a0020jv4.jpg)

Took this one just to compare different fairly evenly colored surfaces. The wall and the light switch are alright, but the poster (which is supposed to be a silvery-gray color) and the area around the stack of CD's have more of that rainbow pixelation.
http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/9822/840a0021wd4.th.jpg (http://img241.imageshack.us/my.php?image=840a0021wd4.jpg)

Anyone have any idea what's wrong? Should I return the phone? I was considering taking it back and getting an M1 instead, but if there is a way to get the 8400 to take decent pictures, I'd rather not spend the extra money.
