You need to show proof of the move. Provide them a utility bill with your name on it, this would help you big time.

Ok, here's the deal Sprint used to waive etfs when moving out of country(but that would not be done if the number was ported out), but that is no longer done unfortuanatly. if your friend already uses sprint you can do a transfer of liability and add that phone onto his acct as another line and he gets the phone contract and number so u don't get an etf. but that is about the only way out of it now since no other wireless carriers do this, so sprint followed suit(that and too many ppl were abusing it).

Though potentially not as experienced as the above poster, I highly doubt Sprint would not waive an ETF for moving out of the country.

Sprint does not waive ETF for moving outside the country or out of coverage. It can happen highly unlikely with the new rules

it does not get waived! very strict rules on that. it was a glorious day today at work too, fewer supervisor calls. you can no longer speak to a supervisor in order to get your etf waived in business retention. the specialists now have scripting to read to you to politely tell you that you can not speak to a supervisor for that issue. even supervisors aren't waiving the etf anymore either. you can get it waived (outside the 30 day rule) only if you die or get deployed, gotta show proof of either one.
Also note, this new policy is for retention only and for ETF waivers only. if there is a valid dispute (i.e. contract renewed for no reason), the specialist will still assist and if there is something else going on, you can still speak w/ the supervisor. we are listening to the calls to make sure the policy is followed.

Yup, so even though Sprint can no longer provide you the service THEY agreed to provide, you still have to pay for it.

Unfornately my reps cant script so i get the same amount of calls ~_~ and my answer is the same as the reps. Ill be a bit more blunt about it.
We do understand your frustrate but my hands are tied. You chose to move Sprint didnt make you move.
Ive used that line. We offer u transfer of liability instead and thats a completely valid offer. Also Sprint was the only carrier offering to waive it. And I am 100% the other carriers pressured sprint into doing. Same with the ETFs

As a previously stated, your best bet is to do a transfer of liability and let your friend take over your account entirely. That way they gain the phone number they want and you're out scott free w/out paying the ETF.
Now if your friend doesn't want the number on a Sprint account but wants to port the number to a different carrier than you're gonna be SOL and you'll have to pay the ETF.
