I think its a sharp looking phone that had a lot of potential. For a mid range user looking for style...this could be the way to go. But if your looking for a feature packed phone... you'll need to keep looking. But for some reason I really like the blue katana...I think it looks really sharp...and the screen is pretty nice too. Just my 2 cents

the katana is a very nice phone for a basic one. it's slim, gets good reception, has a decent battery, has bt, nice screen. if your main concerns are talking and texting, the katana is great. my second line wont' have vision at all come 9/26 so lack of evdo is meaningless to me.

I like the Katana based solely on it faster processor speed of 152 Mhz. Which is excellent for a vision phone. Dislikes are no memory slot, wierd charging and headset slots that are not the standard 2.5 mm. But, I guess that is just my 2 cents.

It's a nice phone. The voice quality is excellent, and battery life seems okay for a small phone and small battery. The lack of an MP3 player, PV, and the need for a headset adaptor makes it inferior to my a900, but it's a good phone to use as a backup when my a900 dies and I need a phone before it can charge.

i've only had it about a week, but the call clarity surpasses my 8300, and the battery life is good, unless i play alot of games or run opera mini alot.
i love the screen, it's beautiful! i didn't use the media player on the 8300 that much, so i really don't miss it. and the camera is vga, but i have a small 5mp digital camera anyway, so i don't need one on my phone.
the only thing i can really complain about is the ringer quality. bah, i hate qcps!!
but i'm learning to live without some obscure song blaring out of my phone while i get funny looks from people, LOL. ;)
oh and i do notice the browser is faster than the 83 too.
ooo and it has pretty blue led backlights instead of the icky green.
also, it's a very comfortable phone
i would've loved to have had a blade, but since i had to pay retail price for a new phone, i decided to skip the extra hundred bucks :P

I think the Katana is a cool phone. Now seeing as I have two Katanas and three RAZR's, in comparison, the Katana is a POS!!!!
There is NOTHING like the real RAZR but I think if I did not have my RAZr's, then I probably would not be as cynical about the Katana as I am. Just my .02.......................

How is the RAZR better than the Katana? Other than the fact that it looks like an ugly, deformed version of the RAZR, the Katana beats it in almost any way.
The RAZR plays MP3s, but there's only like 5MB of space on it anyway, so it's not worth anything. The V3i is a little better at 12MB, and the V3c has 30MB, but both are still worse than the a900, and I don't believe either play AAC, so you can cram all of like 5 songs on there. So, the only reason the MP3 would be worth anything is for ringtones.
Lets talk about the screen and the GUI. The RAZR has more colors, but the Katana has a better resolution. The RAZR doesn't even take advantage of those colors, using a boring GUI instead. The Katana has a boring GUI, but the software platform is simple and user-friendly, unlike the RAZR. Of course, that's not the RAZRs fault, it's a problem with almost all Motorola phones, since they all use the same software.
The RAZR has better battery life, but thats more of a CDMA vs. GSM thing than a RAZR vs. Katana thing.
Oh, by the way, the external screen on the Katana is better.
The camera's are the same.
As far as my tests have gone, the Katana performs a lot better when it comes to call clarity.
To me, it all comes down to how well can I use the phone. I simply find Motorola's placement of menu options and other things on the phone ridiculous, and Sanyo makes more sense.
