I spent a couple hours reading this board and trying to figure out what I wanted from retention. A bunch of stuff was going on while I was on the phone and I got distracted, so here's the deal.

I'm not under contract. I'm the add-a-line on this plan:
2000 AT
9 pm N&W
unl vision/picture mail
unl sms
vision d/l credits every mth
free add-a-phone
$100

Anyway, I broke my phone and I'm 6 weeks out from my rebate. I've never spoken with retention prior to this.

She offers me the a900 or the fusic for $100 and recommends the fusic. So I take it. I wanted to go to power vision at a discount and maybe get a 10% discount or something but it wasn't offered and I didn't ask.

Now that the call is done and my contract is renewed am I SOL? Would I have even gotten anything anyway? The rep was wonderful but I would've liked to get a bit more than what was basically a 6 week advance on my rebate.

Maybe not. You might be able to get back to them and let them know how appreciative you are for them working with you and you are looking forward to your new phone. Then throw in something like, "...now that I have this new phone, I might wanna play with all of it's features. Is there anything we can do about this in regards to pv?" Worked for me when I called but I didn't have to call back. Just be SUPER POLITE and stroke their egos a bit. It can't hurt anything to call back.

I did drop a few hints about PV when we were picking out a phone together but she was just offering a 1-month trial. She was too nice and I was off my game. :) I'm much better at being firm when the person on the line is less polite.

You don't have to be all that firm. Ask, "What are my options for internet access"? "Hrmm.. that seems a little expensive.. are there any other options." "Yeah.. well I wouldn't use it all that much.. I just can't see paying that much for something I'd only use a little bit".

It worked for me.

Worked for other services for me (free 6pm, free voice command, free 500 sms messages).

no doubt the best route.
