View Full Version : Trying to Add-a-Phone to F&C for $10...with no contract

So, the promotions about adding a phone to a plan for "as low as $9.99" got my attention, even though I'm not the primary line. For some background:

Brother= Primary line, been with Sprint since at least 2000, pays about $60/month
Me= Secondary line (AAP @ $20), been with Sprint for two years or so, $16/month [SMS credit > SMS on secondary line charge]

My brother (and hence I) are on the F&C Nationwide plan for 1000 min. I'm thinking that my parents would have good use for a phone (or at least access to one) if the cost is only $10/month. The reason being is because one of them already is pre-paid w/ Virgin Mobile @ $20 every three months. My brother and I definetly don't use all of the shared minutes, so having everyone in seems like a good idea for me at the extra net cost of $3.33/month if possible.

I read kupe's long thread about difficulties in getting AAP to a F&C plan, but others said that it was possible to get it for $10/month. What I want to know is: is there anything special to say or do to get that lower price?

Another related question: is it possible to add the line (at that low price) without a 2-year agreement? Does not getting the free phone affect the agreement at all (I have my old Nokia 3588i that still works), or is it just better to have the extra phone if there's no way around it? My brother and I are both out of contract and my brother prefers it that way for whatever reason; therefore I am trying to see if Sprint would accomodate us in this way before arguing with him again. :bang:

Why not change your plan to a new F&F family plan? You are paying $60/1000 mins..$20 AAP which = $80 (before any of your discounts). If you add a phone now that would = $100. I seriously doubt you'll be able to get AAP for $9.99 on your plan thru customer service or a store, the system will not allow it.

If you switch to a new plan, you'll get 1400 minutes (400 more then you have now) free M2M and nights @7 for free & no roaming charges. AAP for the 3rd line, and you're looking at $100....same as you would have paid on your current plan for 3 lines but you get these extra's included.

There is no way to add a line without a Contract on at least that line.

Agreed.

They are looking for long term revenue. Without a contract, you can cancel tomorrow. Why bother going through the process if you can leave?

Thank you all for the quick feedback.

I can appreciate that, but heck, as I'm not looking to get the AAP for free, we're still paying for voice service. I'm also somewhat certain that none of us would leave unless Sprint gives us a really good reason to... My brother has already stayed on for close to two years without a contract, so Sprint has some proof that they're still making money off him with no agreement.

Additionally, I was not fully describing what the primary line had for $60. I neglected to mention that it also has unlimited texts @ $15 and TEP @ $6, so the cost for the minutes is around $50 (because of volume/corporate discount or whatnot).

Cons that I see with switching to a F&F plan: wouldn't that put a contract on the entire plan (all lines)?

In regards to AAP on F&C, again: I sort of gathered that getting it for $10 would not be possible through regular retail channels... would eCare or retentions bear more fruit? If AAP must go with an agreement, then that agreement only applies to the new line, right? Might as well get a free phone w/ agreement anyways?

Chances are the entire account would go under a new contract.

Absolutely not true. I added a AAP without a contract for 1 month(needed a line to park a phone number during a port from one carrier to another). As long as you do not get a discount on the handset (or use your own inactive handset) and are willing to pay $10 extra/month for no contract option in addition to the AAP monthly fee, Sprint will add a line without a contract.

Meh, that would unfortunately make the monthly fee $20 or $30 and therefore not in the target price I was hoping for. Ah well, thanks for the info in any case inftaxs. Looks like it's gonna be more pre-paid Virgin Mobile for now.

It is possiable to get the $10 add a line on the older plans. I don't know what you do or what you say but somehow there was a billing problem with my familys account and a Sprint rep switched it over to the $10 vs. the $20. There are 5 lines on the account. the third line is set at the $20 rate but the 4th and 5th are at the $10. Like I said I don't know how she did it but she did it. I'll ask her tongiht of the situation and give you all details.

As far as the other question. Sprint requires a new phone on a new line of service. I know its weird but that how they do it. The only way you woudl be able to start a new line without a contract is to buy a new phone out right.

I activated my old phone without a contract as I mentioned earlier.

I checked with a rep and they said you can go "month to month" without a contract for 10 dollars extra to the cost of whatever plan you are on.

u cant get a free and clear plan with a $10 a month add a sub. only the fair&flex's have 9.99 add a subs and that's only on the third line. the only exception is on retention plans. i think that F&F is the best way to go anyways expecially if u are going to share mins. the only OTHER exception to that is sero.

for instance, my friend was getting 2 lines with the 2000 min plan and that would be $100 a month. i told him he could get 2 1250 min sero plans and pay the same and he would have free vision and roaming plus the option to go over. sero is the answer to all of our problems. EMBRACE SERO!!!!!!!!!

To the OP:

Retentions can do the AAP at $10 on free and clear type plans. Depending on the system limitations, the primary and the added line may have to both sign agreements.

If the system doesnt require the primary line to renew the agreement, retentions MAY be able to do the AAP at $10/month with no contract. You would have to really smooth talk the rep however.

If it was me, i'd get the $10 AAP with a new agreement on that line and accept the discounted price for the handset on that line. More likely than not, it will stay active for the full 2 years.......... and with all the changes sprint seems to be making constantly its fairly easy to get out of contract with no ETF if you found it necessary in the future.

To the OP:

If you are a long time Sprint customer and pay on time every month, you can ask for a FREE AAP with 2-year contract. Contract is meaningless because it is $0 MRC. Email ecare and ask nicely. Your chance to get a free AAP is very high.

Contract is meaningful if the OP has 2 lines not under contract and wants to be able to port out. $0 charge AAP still carries with it a ETF :(
