:haha: I appreciate all the help I have gotten in the past and I love this site but I have run into a little bit of a tangle I think. I have a 3100 which is an ok phone but when I got the phone in late June the CS rep said it would have better reception then my 5225i (which was one of my main reasons for re-upping and getting new phones). To back-track a tad, my wife is pregnant, I teach PE in a big gym and I dont want to miss the "big call" in November. (baby due date) Well, when I came back to school last Friday I found out the reception on the 3100 is the same, and actually worse in some spots. I am at school about 10 hours a day with coaching, athletic director duties and teaching and I use my phone also during this time. I do not want to miss any calls.
My question is, do you think CS *2, retentions, whatever will, can or would find any reason to work with me to get me a new phone that would give me better reception. When I got the 3100, the cs rep said well, I really cant tell you which phone has the better reception but this one seems to have a good one. I knew in my heart it wasnt the best one, but I didnt have a chance to "try it out" during the 30 day time period because my school was locked up for the summer.
And I guess if CS cant do anything, would it be worth it to buy a 8300 or something on ebay and switch over....I am at a semi-loss right now. The 3100 isnt a real bad phone but one of the main reasons why I bought it was to use it at school and I cant really, which is now a big problem. Any help would be awesome. Thank you in advance.

Whenever I've asked any Sprint rep about a phone's reception (whether it's *2, or in the store) it seems like they have a scripted response, and they tell me that all phones are programmed the same and there should be no difference in reception at all. However, real life has proven otherwise, as a lot of Sanyo phones get kick a@@ reception compared to other phones. If you just got the phone, I don't know how much they can help you out, although when I called retentions they gave me a free Katana because of its nice speakerphone for free because my mother is physically disabled and she needed it. That line was in the middle of the contract. So it doesn't hurt to try, but it really is up to the rep. Good luck though, keep us posted

I am going to hold off calling *2 before I hear from some more people on here...and I will NOT go into a store, the scripted responses like you mentioned are not very easy on the ears. I do understand they do not have any leverage like the CS agents do but come on, sounding like a robot is not good customer service either. I have turned alot of my friends onto coming here, reading posts and calling CS or ecare to help them rather them go to the stores etc....<nothing against the people who work in the stores, I understand making their $$$>

Any more feedback?

Before going further with Sprint in trying to get a new phone I'd recommend you ask around at your school other teachers as well as students you know that have Sprint and see if they have better reception than you and what kind of phone they have if they do. You may find that the school simply has poor Sprint coverage in which case it won't really matter much which phone you get.

I tried, most people said they have verizon, cingular etc.
I didnt check into that before I went with sprint and when I had my contract with sprint back in 04, my wife wasnt pregnant. When i re-upped, my contract wasnt ready to expire until oct of 06...so it was either pay 200 bucks to get out of my contract, or re-up and try and get better phones and see what happens.......I am sorta stuck down here in the gym almost 8 hours a day, and then a few hours after school I am outside coaching/AD duties, hopefully if I miss the call on the cell, she can call my school #. Thanks for the feedback.

Do you have free roaming? If so, can you force your phone to roam and see if the Verizon signal you pick up is better?

Just to give you an update, I called CS....they put a note on my file and were very cool about the whole situation. While at school this past week I lost 3 calls from my wife while I was standing in my gym. My phone read 2 bars and then it lost the call. Also it didnt have any service inside my office. Anyways, the CS agent, said that after speaking to tech support and finding out if there were any towers in the area of the school, then CS could switch out phones for me. Tech Support told me that the towers in the area were strong. and for me to call back on Monday. If by chance CS were to switch out phones (I currently have a weak 3100....) what do you think they would switch me out to?? Any suggestions on what I should ask for?
Thank you

Should I even bother trying to get a new phone or just deal with the 3100?
I lost 2 more calls today. These were business related.

I would either try to force a firmware upgrade or switch phones.

My phone will still hold a call with 1 bar.
