I e-mailed customer service and they told me that I could buy a new phone (#) and use it without changing my plan. Well, now things sound (#) different. I called today to try to change phones (#), and I'd lose:
$5 Unlimited Texts
$15 Vision w/$10 credit
and have to pay:
$15 Unlimited Texts
Same for vision, minus the $10 credit.
(The new phone is a 6700, so EVDO)
So its going to cost me $20 a month to upgrade my phone (#)? What gives? Anyone know of a way out of this? Only discounts I have is a 25% UPS discount...

Go to a Sprint store and have them switch your phones.

Ha! Tried that, too! All that guy did was call *2 from his own sprint phone and talk to an associate, who told him the same thing, plus that I had to change my plan!
Oh, not to mention the $10 shop fee.

$10 shop fee? I know of a $35 activation fee if it wasn't previously activated... what is the shop fee?

I take it that right now you have a regular vision phone, and your wanting to switch to a power vision phone. Well if so more than likely it is going to cost you more because they wont let anyone get a power vision phone without switching to power vision plan. Some have gotten away with it....but I believe those times have passed.

that would really suck if they made me get power vision since they don't have EVDO here, but sell all the PV phones

Yeah, I'm going from a Vision to Power Vision phone. I've heard people say that they have PV phone and regular Vision plan. They claimed no problems. After all, Vision is a feature package, not a connection...
The guy at the Sprint store said he'd have to charge me $10 to switch it over. He called it a shop charge. The phone has been activated before.

They told me that I could keep my same plan, and I knew it wasn't possible so I asked them to notate their offer on my account. Of course they could not give me my same plan, and I ended up getting the $8 unl sms with an $8 credit for my troubles. If you still have the email, let someone know that you bought a new phone based on their false promises.

No offense, but essentially you'd actually be paying for what you are getting. $5 unlimited texts is not standard, nor is a $15 Vision with a $10 credit. Essentially you change and you are paying for the Power Vision plans, at a full price. When you change features like that, you cant be assured that the next rep is going to feel like giving you stuff for free.
You could try to call retentions and discuss your options, as these are things you have today and would like to keep...otherwise you'd consider changing companies.

These were "standard" offers when I got them. I don't have anything special. When I first got my phone/plan, unlimited text was advertised at $5/mo and Vision was advertised at $15 with a $10 credit towards downloads each month (which i use each month for TeleNav GPS). There's nothing "not standard" about my plan, it's just a little older (and cheaper!)

Just a comment for those that are wondering. The following is my experience ONLY from several weeks ago and may or may not apply to the OP and others. Since, as noted Sprint is changing some of their regulations.
When I change esn's I ONLY call the tech dept directly. I learned NOT to call any other dept to do this. Call tech and they will change the phone to your account without the bs the other depts must follow by matching the plan to the phone.
In other words I have Power Vision with a Vision only phone. CS including mgr's could not do what I currently have, only tech had the system to do it. Call tech and let us know if they will swap the esn for you without messing with the plan. Also don't give up if the first one says no, call back....... ;)
BTW I do realize I am not getting something for nothing by downgrading my phone, in fact I am getting less features by using a vision phone with power vision, the opposite of the OP. :)

Be careful doing this though, because I did something similar, and since they never changed the Vision to PowerVision, it was just dropped, as it was incompatible with the device. Luckily, after the first bill, this was caught and they properly corrected it, but it wasn't without a call into CS. On my Treo they automatically upgraded the Vision to PowerVision with no issues, but that is also because I don't pay for it so the costs wasnt an issue.
Not to say it doesn't work, just stating that it didnt work for me.

Thanks for the feedback. Keep in mind I have Sero which includes EVDO. Are you saying I run the risk of getting the EVDO code changed to the Vision code on Sero. I do know there is a vision code (or was) for Sero. Even Tech wanted to change me to Vision and I said h*ll no don't change it! :)

No, I believe you are fine because you have Power Vision already, even though your phone is only Vision. My problem was I had a Vision plan and changing to a Power Vision phone. Appears it flagged something in the system, which caused it to drop it altogether.
Not a huge deal, as I called in and it was clear that it was never offered to me, nor denied by me, thus they make the adjustments to my plan and my bill.

Hey bud, I had to look that one up LMAO, MBU is vision in the Sero code and EVDO is Power Vision of course. What is your point?

Okay, here's what happened. I e-mailed Sprint and basically said that I deserved a fair transition to Power Vision. They offered $10 unl. texts and $10 off of Vision. I agreed. I called and changed the ESN, but the guy never even asked about Vision or Txts! I went to sprint.com and I somehow got $8 unlimited texts and $20 power vision. I emailed the rep back and said I got the ESN switched, and please apply the $10 discount to Vision.
It took some time, but I'm happy.
