I called *2 just now and talked with a really nice lady at customer service. From all the posts I've read on here, I can replace my $20 Power Vision package with a ~$40 Phone as Modem package and I would be able to tether my phone with my laptop while at work. (Sadly, while I can get online using my wifes A900, she doesn't let me take her phone to work with me as our cells are our only phones.)
After agreeing to the PAM package she switched my plan over and told me that it replaced my voice plan (Fair and Flexible - 800min) with the data one and that it now charges me per minute to use voice. We were both confused by this. She was confused because it says on her screen that it can be an attachment. I didn't understand this because I couldn't see why anyone would by a phone for the solepurpose to use as a data modem instead of getting a data card. (The fusic wasn't cheap...) She even called her supervisor over and they both hassled with it for a while before finally giving up and setting it back toward my original plan.
Now, the question is, does anyone have a standard voice plan ALONG WITH the PAM? I'm beginning my Masters degree in Software Engineering, and really need the ability to get online at all times. (I don't want to get a data card since the ability is there with my phone.) I would appreciate any information anyone can give with specific data so when I goto a sprint store later and hash this out with them I have all my facts straight.
Much thanks.

Of course you can have PAM and voice together.. Just call again and get another rep. You will probably not hear all that nonsense again and they would add it just fine.
ps.: are you on SERO? that would have been another story.

Here's my recent experience with adding PAM: like you, I decided to get a Fusic for data usage and some voice calls. The Fusic is a second line on a F&F shared min. (Family) plan. Initially, my plan details for the Fusic, as shown online, indicated that I had PAM only, no voice plan, and thus voice usage would be 0.20/min.
I contacted E-care immediately, asking for confirmation that the Fusic should be sharing min. with my F&F plan. E-care fixed the issue, so now when I view my plan details, the Fusic is listed as having the same F&F plan as my primary line, and the PAM is listed as a service ("Unlimited Data Plan for Phone as Modem "). On my last invoice, it shows my old plan as "$39.99 Vision Data Plan/ Unlimited Mb of PCS Data", and the new plan as F&F for Families, with PAM listed as "Power Vision Attachable Plan" as one of the monthly service charges, not its own plan.
I doubt that a retail Sprint store would be able to sort this out. I'd recommend calling Account Services if E-care can't straighten it out for you.

I never cease to be amazed at how creative Sprint CS can be interpretting their giant mess of plans and options.
I have exactly what you've described. A family plan with a Fusic that has unlimited PAM as an addon attachment. Its taken me 3 months to get my bill anywhere near right. They've double and triple charged me for the PAM plan. But after only 8 hours on the phone with many different CS reps, I think its finally sorted out (I think).

i had a line on my account i wasnt using, in my case
im glad that for 49.99 i get unlimited phone as modem with no voice package.
At least i will be utilizing that line for something.
They said the phone wont even dial out.
If i get good enough speeds i might dump cable internet.
49.99 is same as my cable

I have the data plan on my blackberry and i think for the cost it blows pam away. its faster and easier to use. also the 39.99 I pay for my blackberry service INCLUDES PAM so I get a double wammy for goodies. I love it. should look into a blackberry if you need PAM its a much better deal. youll get a phone that gets your e-mails, yahoo, aim, and text as well as phone PLUS PAM. its a win win deal.
I love it.

Wait for Sprint to start offering the Motorola Q in the 4th quarter. You can probably get the same plan as the Blackberry with a real (albeit tiny) keyboard.
