View Full Version : Unwanted Text Messages--Spam

We have a family plan and for some reason my line is the only one getting these unwanted spam text messages. I called cs and they told me the only way to stop it is to block ALL text messages. They also directed me to go online.
If I go online I have to put in each individual spammer. I just deleted all the text messages, so I don't have them to put in nor do I want to go through that hassle.
Is there anything I can do about the spam texts?
PS Sorry if this has been addressed somewhere else on the site. I did a search and couldn't find any info on it.

yes there is
log into sprint
go to your text messaging settings

there is a box to put in numbers or email addys to block text messages

usually spam still has a 4 digit number

just put those in there and click the block the messages radio button.

then save changes

ALL of the SMS Spam I've received comes from bogus e-mail addresses... Not 4-digit numbers.

I got a 4 digit text message yesterday and it was a picturemail.

It was definitely SPAM.

I get pic mail spam on average of 2x a month...

I think it's funny, but that's only because I have pic mail on my account (and unlimited SMS, should I ever get SMS spam or something)... but to those who don't, it sucks and in some cases there isn't much that can be done.

But I don't have the necessary equipment for Viagra! :p

And I don't intend on being with someone who needs it... I ain't no Anna Nicole Smith.

:haha: Thats too funny ! But honestly..... With the recent growth of text and pic mail spam, since there isnt any way to stop it, there should be a set number of incoming text and pic mail included in every plan.

What's interesting is that when I check out my firewall, a lot of spam comes from Sprint hosted networks. Maybe this is why Sprint doesn't want to do anything since probably, they host them!

Maybe we as Sprint customers can appeal to Sprint not to charge for incoming text messages. In most countries from what I understand, the cell carriers don't charge for incoming messages because the receiver has no control over it.

I recently received my first spam... but I had changed my settings to "Block All" a month ago. When I went back to check, it should as "Allow all". If I changed it to block, and hit save changes, it would change back to allow all. I put in one number to allow in the exception list and then it appears to remember my block all setting... time will tell...

My latest seems to be from Fox Sports. In the "From" line it has 7788. It also has the following url in the message. http://gospv.com/fox which doesn't exist. The other says "Settings; http://sprint.com/mta" (without the quotes) which just takes me to the Sprint website.
I added 7788, the gospv url, and the sprint url to my blocked list. Hopefully that'll help.
