View Full Version : Problem when Sending Text messages via outlook

Here at my company we use a web based interface that essentially just pulls up outlook in the background and sends a text messages via outlook to the address. Example xxxxxxxxxx@messaging.sprintpcs.com Now when we go to send a notification out to our techs they only get the 1st half of the message. Now I know that there is a limit on the amount of charters which I think is 160 but before when we sent messages with like 480 characters it would split it into 3 different text messages. This has now stopped has anyone else noticed this????

As far as I know Sprint has never split long messages into smaller ones. They've always just truncated it to the 1st 160 characters. I know Nextel and T-Mobile would split the message into several 160 character messages but Sprint never has. If it used to work perhaps it was a feature in outlook itself that would parse the message into 160 character blocks.

Thanks I was wondering if that might be the case but I just got off the phone with sprint Advanced tech support and they stated that it is supposed to work by splitting the messages so they think something is wrong on their side. Sprint is transferring their case to Sprint Engineering so maybe they will get something fixed, or maybe if they see if they do not support this they need to with the LARGE account of my company behind this push.. :fingers:

Apparently, 5600-lovers got their longer messages split up for them. There's a whole thread about it in the LG forum because some people are ticked they switched from a Sanyo that splits & delivers messages, to an LG that truncates.

So, all in all, it depends on the phones they're using. For example, if they're using a 5600, normally they would probably get all 3 texts. If they're using a Samsung, they will most likely get the 1st and the 3rd, but never receive the 2nd.

Furthermore, SMS does seem to be a bit odd lately, so perhaps they are changing things with the system (we have seen a few changes: SMS storage online of sorts, a rate change forthcoming, etc.) and will eventually have you back to normal.

If by any chance your guys have picture mail, you can compose 1,000-character messages to pic mail addresses.
