View Full Version : Sprint getting expensive.....

I got my bill and I noticed once again a change.

Effective Oct. 1, 2006, Sprint will charge $0.15 per message for casual domestic and international text messages sent or received. Sprint will charge $0.03 KB for casual data usage.

It doesnt affect me. But being a casual user must get expensive.

Also said new phone upgrade program is coming soon for Sprint PCS subscribers. Visit sprint.com/phoneupgrades for information.

And the fact that there are people out there that call and complain because they don't get everything for free until they get it.

They will have to rip this sero plan out of my dead cold hands if they want it back.

Actually, that is probably correct. The more people that get things for free, the more expensive things get overall for everyone. I can't talk because I get PV, texting, and 6pm for free...but those things were offered to me...I did not ask for them.

an extra one cent of casual data, which nobody here uses because we have vison

five extra cents for a message, which we have text plans for...that are going down soon

OR we can just bash SERO plan holders for all of this. This thread is going nowhere.

You read my mind......a friend of mine has Sero and in the last few days STARTED getting charged for email notifications on his 9000. He said the message changed too, now it has a number noted in the message. He called Sprint and they said he shouldn't be charged, but they are charging him (ten cents each). Any idea's?

Oct 1 starts the 15 cents a message. I was never charged for email notifications but I think that might have changed as of July 1. I have unlimited text message so it doesnt affect me. On my June bill it says Effective July 1st Sprint will begin charging for text messages received from another sprint Pcs phone. I think it also pertains to email notifications.

thats what the wink was there for ;)

it has nothing to do with SERO.. it just sounds like a good idea to some people. If Sero was a costing too much $$... theyd do away with it.. bottom line. SERO was supposed to end june 30th and its STILL going.

It's strange they just started charging him, the message starts with 9090 listed at the top and listed underneath is "You have a email". I suppose at this point his choices are:

1. Try to get 500.

2. Try to get unlimited.

3. Pay for 500.

4. Pay for unlimited.

Did I miss any choices? :)

Thats about it.
I also notice picture mail doesnt have the number or the person that sent it to you. It also has a four digit number.

I know SERO is still available. I just added a line a couple of weeks ago and called CS and put it on SERO, no questions asked. Think about it: if Sprint was losing so much money on SERO, it would be LOOOOONNNNNNNGGGGGGG gone!!!!! I would imagine that SERO plans account for less than 1/10000th of the total number of Sprint plans currently active. :)Heck, SERO is not even advertised. The only way to find out about it word of mouth or forums such as SU or HOFO.

I don't have a vision plan or message plan, but do use both data and SMS on a casual usage basis. So, yes I would be affected some.

I wouldn't say expensive, though I suspect I will get beheaded on SU for saying that. In reality, they are positioning their pricing right along the other two. Expensive would be if Sprint's plans cost more than the others.

This is only to be expected since we can't deny Nextel has directly influenced some of these pricing schemes. Contrary to what we seem to think, Nextel's executives do have a say in what happens. A little example of this is the change from $0.10 to $0.20/minute for Call Forwarding. Nextel was the carrier with the most expensive CF rate at precisely $0.20/minute.

I think we are beginning to experience some of the effects of Sprint's newly found confidence. No longer will freebies and generous buckets of minutes compensate for the bad word of mouth that plagues the brand. As CS improves and coverage holes are gradually reduced, the increased costs and improved service just wont justify it.

So (with no aim to offend anyone) those who have 20 billion freebies on their accounts, can only pray to God that the next time they call in to demand yet another free ESN swap, their account doesn't get messed up...

I suspect the smart customers will leave the accounts alone, by not calling in. By the way for those that do esn swaps, BE SURE to call TECH to do the swaps, do not call cs of any other type. ;)
