Got this notice on my invoice today, don't know if this is old news but I couldn't find anything on it with a search.
Text Message Rates
Effective Oct. 1, 2006, Sprint will charge $0.15
per message for casual domestic and
international text messages sent or received.
Sprint will charge $0.03/KB for casual data usage.
Glad I have 500 for free, for now at least.

Yeah, doesn't affect me none. I get 500 free and i haven't ever gone over. Casual usage rates are for people who don't plan ahead. Thanks for the info though!
I have to tell my non text plan having bro, about the chages that are coming his way.

Well...even though I have 500 txts a month and it doesn't affect me..thats still b.s
But...I know what section this person is quoting....however in the bill I got last week...here is what it said........its diff
Effective Sept. 1, 2006, Sprint will charge for text messages sent to international recipients at a rate of $0.15 per message. This rage also applies to messages received from international subscribers.
So they put this in essentially last months bill....then decide..ehh lets through in domestic texts too.....just when i hoped text plans would come down in price...seems like they might be going up.

That is one of the odd thing about this notice. Why would domestic and international be the same price. It seems like they don't know what they want to do. Also what have other cell companies been doing with their text rates? Have they changed them also?

Well other companies text rates had been going up too..some even worse than sprint..however... I now notice with other companies...that some are beginning to lower their rates...such as ... not sure what company this is..but just unveiled penny texting (1000 texts for 9.99) or somethin like that. Also...several companies do not charge for text messages received which right there decreases the need to buy a larger package or in some cases a package at all

The only time you will see them start coming down is when a superior technology starts to roll out and come online.

this is a move from sprint to maximize revenue.
This is probably to help sprint get better results next quarter and not disappoint investors/analysts.
You wont believe how that little increase would help since its basically all profit.

Not a chance.
Just ask them to give you a discount on your text plan... they will probably cover $8 of it, leaving you with the charge of $7 - that sounds like a pretty good price for unlimited texts to me. Plus if you have any discounts on your plan, they calculate it first with the entire total ($15 dollars for unl. texts in this instance), and after the discount is applied they apply the $8 credit to your bill. Rather good deal I think.

It's not the same price. International is $0.15 no matter what. If you have an unlimited text message plan, like I do, and text overseas every single day, like I do, I get charged out the you-know-what for those international texts. No SMS plan covers them.

Yeah i just notice that too, i already have about $20 worth of INternational Text. i guess i didn't realize this is already started. cause if i remember correctly, on the bill it says starting Sept 1, 2006.
maybe i'm wrong. THIS SUX, even metroPCS offer unlimited texting for only $3

I don't know what you guys are talking about but our new text plans are good, much better than before IMHO. I mean they tripled the amount of text messages you get for the same price (100 SMS for $5 was bumped up to 300 SMS for the same price) also penny texting is an awesome in between plan I mean for $2 more you can get double the messages and it ends up being a penny a message (500 SMS for $8 was changed to 1000 SMS for $10) and the only thing that didn't change was the unlimited plan but other than that I think the two other plans are a great deal. Much better than what Cingular and Verizon offers.

You words their just said it. METROPCS. They are small regional carrier. The smaller the carrier the higher the risks they take to be more competive especially since they may not be able to complete nationally they want to maximize the number of subscribers they can get in their region. Why do you think these smaller carriers offer such outrageous plans and offers? Even T-Mobile which although a nationwide carrier being that it has less subscribers can afford to to take some higher risks in regards to pricing to gain some competive edge. It's all an Economics perspective. And besides some of these carriers may advertise this as Unlimited Text but sometimes they offer unlimited texting to other subcribers on that same carrier. Something to think about.

well actually... you can now get 300 text for 5$ as apposed to the 100 text for 5$ they used to offer... which is cheaper is a sense.... you can also get 1000 for 10$ and unlimited for 15$
