Where? I just logged into my account and I don't see the options. I even went into my current usage. Is it not showing because the op said that it's temp unavail.? I think that's cool though.

Okey I think I found it. It will only hold sent messages, not received messages. I think the only way it will hold the received messages is if you send them via logged into you account online and send them online like that.

Yes, back in the days of our beloved Short Mail.

edit: I just noticed that in the inbox I have several messages from the same person that some show as just 888-555-1212, some are 1-888-555-1212 and others are 0111-888-555-1212 (all show the actual number but sometimes with 1, 0111)

08-11-2006, 11:18 AM
I e-mailed Sprint about it yesterday and here is the response I got (involving if you're on a joint account):

I would like to inform you that the person with the account level password can access the details of the other lines on the account through online.

I understand your concern that you want that no one except you can access your Inbox of text messages on the online account.

We have received this feedback from many customers and we are in process of developing the feature to have password system to access the Inbox feature.

This way only the person holding that line will have access to Inbox only as they will be allowed to set password for it.

I have forwarded your concern to the appropriate department so that they may take further action.

When this feature will be launched, you will be notified through high profile promotions.

I can see that, actually. We had a guy convicted of murder here in Baltimore because when he was arrested for something-or-other, they took his cell phone. Well in there he had all of these sent messages bragging about a woman he killed. They didn't say what network he was on, but mentioned that if he hadn't saved them in his phone, he may have never been found for that offense because the carrier he used did not store the messages in any archive of sorts.

But I still want to be able to delete my messages online, dangit. That's friggin' stupid that I can't.

laur you better not have anything to hide!

Not really. It's a privacy issue. There are certain people who have access to my account because they just so happen to know people who work for Sprint and give them anyone's password. Obviously, there isn't jack that can be done to protect my account from these people, and I'm not necessarily on bad terms with them anymore, but just knowing that any person at Sprint can a) get into my account and b) give out my password to someone else if they so wish... well, that's an uneasy feeling.

It's fine if they wanna back this crap up, but at least give me the option to delete my own freakin' messages.

laursifer
08-14-2006, 02:27 PM
Yeah that is not right. I thought ppl at Sprint "didnt know" your password and you'd have to call customer service for it? At least thats what they told me when I forgot mine a long time ago.

Depends on what level these people work on. A regular salesperson, I believe, does not have access but I think techs and CS do... which is more than enough. I mean, I don't really care as I don't have anything to hide. Everyone knows I'm insane. It's the point of the matter: privacy. Everyone should have parts of their lives that are private, not because they have something to hide, but because everyone deserves something that is only theirs and no one else's but who they CHOOSE to share it with.

Well, from the email I got today, it looks like at least for the short term we may disable the online archive very soon. It seems that business customers ahve a concern about confidential company information being accessable online. So, look for this to either be suspended for the short haul or modified so it can be disabled by the account holder.

Well, it's definitely practical if you have, say, an LG-550 or an A900. God forbid a 535. 550 holds 100 texts in your Inbox. A900 holds 190 in your Inbox. The 535 only held 50.

Right now, on my second line, I've got 375 messages in my online Inbox and 200-some saved in the online Sent Messages. So that, at least, is where practicality comes into play I suppose.

Dear ____,

Thank you for contacting Sprint together with Nextel. I understand that the message details (sent and received) information is not available online.

Currently this feature has been discontinued by Sprint.

Due to the following issues, the text messaging online inbox was removed from Sprint.com:

· No old text message deletion option
· No opting out of inbox option
· New text messages not displaying online inbox in a timely manner
· Old text messages not expiring after 14 days and 200 messages

There are no communication regarding the re-implementation online text messaging inbox in the near future.

Thank you for contacting us. Have a great day.

Question:I noticed several weeks ago a new feature added to the sprint
website which allowed me to view sent and received SMS
messages. A few days ago I noticed that this really nice
feature was no longer there. I was hoping that the system
was just down and that it would show back up again, but as of
today it is still not back. Just wondering if and when that
feature will be back. Thanks ahead of time.

I'm pretty glad to hear about that... at least that it's gone, but I still think it should be an option, perhaps disabled by default. I didn't mind the online archive, I just hated that you couldn't delete messages (because of my predicament with Sprint employees, or friends of Sprint employees, fascinated with digging through my account). And it's not that friggin' hard to incorporate that into programming. I'm not a programming guru, but I know enough to know it's not that hard. Of course I've never worked with anything in this scale, so I'm really just blowing smoke out of my rear end.

It's gone and here's the lame message I got from Sprint when I asked about it.

Dear David,

Thank you for contacting Sprint together with Nextel. I understand that you wish to track your text messages through the website.

As you know that we had recently started this service "Inbox" through which customers were able to track the received and sent messages. But, this service has been taken off as of August 25, 2006.

Please understand that whatever changes we make depend upon customers? feedback. After launching this service, we have received a lot of feedback from customers that it is affecting their security.

Due to the following issues also, the text messaging online inbox has been removed from Sprint.com:

*No old text message deletion option
*No opting out of inbox option
*New text messages not displaying online inbox in a timely manner
*Old text messages not expiring after 14 days and 200 messages

Now, SMS text messages can be viewed only on the phone's text messaging inbox. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

I appreciate your understanding in this matter. Feel free to write to us again for any of your customer service needs.

"Where our customers come first!"

SprintUsers.com was created in January 2002 as a resource for users of Sprint PCS products and services to learn about and share information. We have cll phone reviews, Cellular Accessories, Downloads, PDA reviews, Ringtones, all of the latest Sprint PCS news and information, an area where you can find help in creating a ring tone or custom image for you phone, and so much more. The most popular section is the message board where visitors can read and write messages, ask questions, and get advice about their cellular phone from other users.
