Anyone else having SMS issues today? starting early this morning text messages coming from other Sprint users have been having 001 prepended to the front of the number and messages from non-Sprint users have been having a 1 in front. I mean texting still works, but its annoying because it doesn't show the person's name from your phone book because of the extra digits. This is just like the problem several months ago when sprint first started to allow internatial texts.
Also text messages from email has been messed up to. I got a txt from my frined's email but instead of having his email address as the from, it actually had the 1st word of his message as the from. Anyone else having wierd issues like that today?
yes ! it looked like how texts come in on my cingular phone... and from upoc messages are coming from an actual number...not just unknown, i thought sprint was gonna be compatible with upoc... but then started getting messages prepended with a 1, so they do not show as a name just the number ugh.... someone broke something !

yeah, i would think it will fix itself, it did last time. what i did last time though was edited contacts i texted allot and instead of adding a 1 to thier cell number, i added a "pager" entry that had thier number with the 1, that way it would at least show thier name when they sent to me but not affect thier cell # for when i called.
The main pain in the butt though is when people email my phone it doesn't give the return addess of who its from; it puts the 1st word of the message as the From field, so i have to kinda guess who's emailing me based of what they say. ugh

This latest round of trouble has been a known issue at Sprint since yesterday evening, and it impacted Picture Mail overnight as well. As of 8:00 this morning, they're considering text messaging fixed "with a backlog" except for the ability to send a text message from the messaging.sprintpcs.com web site. I continue to watch this on my outage tracker (link below) and as additional information trickles in I'll update it there.

im not sure if anyone is having these issues but for some reason when i try the uploaders i.e. focus uploader, funformobile, rumkin..and a few others, i am not getting the messages. I have tried this on my wifes phone as well as my own. i tried also sending an SMS and it got returned to me. is this happening across the board or is it something that i need to call *2 about?
someone just told me that they are trying to block the sending via uploaders to phones...can any one verify this?

Even Sprint would not try that.
I don't know exactly how those services send their SMS, but my assumption is that a back-end script on the web server posts the SMS to the messaging.sprintpcs.com web site, which has been down since yesterday evening.

She said that if they are working for you, then you are one of the lucky ones. There are numerous data tickets out nationally. Check the tracker (below). There are really two separate issues going on with Vision/Power Vision, one involving "network error" messages and one involving other general problems with the Vision homepage. Picture Messaging should be working in most areas, but I won't get another update officially for probably a couple more hours.

Yeah, I was just about to post too as a reality check to make sure I’m not the only one still having problems. Looks like I’m not alone. Still can't see who it’s from when I get a message from an email address. Still just shows up "from" the 1st word of the message. This is getting a bit ridiculous; it should have been addressed/fixed by now.

Yeah, it is ridiculous. Virtually all my text messages are email notifications, and I get a lot of them, so it is quite annoying.
On top of that, I noticed that email notifications are now being counted as SMS messages on the "current usage" section of sprint.com. Previously they were not counted. It's moot for me, since I have an unlimited text plan, but some people are going to get a nasty surprise on their next bill...
FYI...this whole thing started at the same time the new "usage tracker" for SMS messages started on sprint.com.
Boss-man
08-11-2006, 05:39 AM
You are correct Jumpcut. They are now counting those notifications against the current usage. They did say they were offering it for free for a certain period, and that they will send an SMS when the free period ends. Well, I guess it has ended...I just didi noti get any SMS indicating so. When I looked at my SMS usage, I realized right away that they must have started counting the notifications. Since I only have the $10 vision/100 SMS plan, I quickly stopped my gmail account from forwarding to my sprintpcsmail (which then forwards to my phone).

well i guess i see why it got messed up. i saw that Laurisfer mentioned in another thread that we now have a SMS mailbox online when you log into sprintpcs.com. its just like picture mail; with an inbox, sent, etc. So you can see all the stuff you've gotten and sent. i kind figured sprint was "adding features" when everything started crapping out, most of the time when something breaks its because of that. i just wish sprint would get into the habit of ironing out the bugs of thier new features BEFORE they roll them out, and not after!
As of Friday morning messages from email STILL do not have the correct FROM field

So Sprint no longer lets us see who the message is from on SMS email notifications, yet has begun charging people for each message without warning.
This has now been going on for over a week. Yet, if you call Sprint Tech Support, they act like they've never heard of this problem. They will insist it's a problem with your phone and have you do resets, take the battery out, etc. Finally they will tell you to bring the phone into a store because your phone has major problems. Get a clue, Sprint! :irked:

Text messaging through messaging.sprintpcs.com is still broken as of today. It permits PCS-PCS SMS but not to other carriers: "This recipient is not accepting web messages." Incidentally this problem also prevents outgoing textmsging from the Samsung i500 phone and perhaps other Shortmail phones. I sure hope Sprint intends to fix this problem pronto!

this is really getting to the point of unacceptable. its been 10 days with no resolution yet. and its even more irritating because its sprint's own fault. they roll out a new "feature" that clearly wasn't tested and it disrupts the normal production environment. then they don't even roll back the system to a stable build and debug the new code, they just leave it all broken. so now the new feature doesn't work (my online mailbox is not even close to being up-to-date, its days off) and normal system doesn't work as it should; i STILL cannot see who a text is from when they send from an email address. i just can't understand how the #3 wireless carrier in the country can't get things fix/resolved/patched in a timely manor. then again, i guess maybe that's why they're only #3...
I know my ranting in here won't fix a damn thing, but i have to vent. i just think its ridiculous how this happens. and its not like this is the 1st time sprint has made changes that have "broken" their existing working systems. if it were the 1st time i could overlook it. but it seems that every time they add something they disrupt the system while they iron out bugs. haven't they ever heard of a test environment???
for the most part i do like sprint, they're billing packages work for me, i like their phones (i'm a sanyo fan-boy; and i know i can't get sanyo anywhere else), and they're good to develop for because of forums like this and much of there protocols are open. but i'm so irritated when it comes to issues like this.....grrrrrrrr
ok, rant off

So, it seems they've gone almost two weeks with their messaging networkd screwed up, huh?

We all need to keep the pressure up on Sprint to fix this and also get messaging.sprintpcs.com back working the way it was (i.e. able to send to other carriers). There is a danger that Sprint will consider the current status to be acceptable (they've done this sort of thing before, often stranding entire groups of customers/specific phone owners). So please take out trouble tickets and report problems and demand that it be fixed pronto!

I just got off the phone with Sprint. The TS Rep said they are aware of the ringer download problem, it's happening all over their system, and the text messaging problem is occurring with messages between Sprint and other networks. This is why my messages to my friend inside Sprint are working, where others are having problems.
He said they had to ETA for the fix, but were working on it. I insisted that he write a trouble ticket for me.

Sounds to me that you were just getting lucky previously, as, from my understanding, the AIM notifications you are speaking of are text messages. Perhaps I am thinking of something different, but it stands to reason that if they are then you would get charged for them.
In regards to the text messaging issue, there was a new rollout that broke a number of applications. The impact to actual text messaging was locale related though as I never experienced any issues either receiving text messages or sending text messages, whether it was to other Sprint users or users on other networks.

Then again, it may all depend on where he is located.

This ongoing issue is not impacting a specific region or area. It is in fact widespread, though, as it's an account-specific issue. There was some behind-the-scenes data network maintenance above and beyond the SMS "upgrades" and certain customers' accounts were hosed in the process, just like with the provisioning problems in the early days of Ready Link. I don't know how much longer this will take, and the folks in the data department don't appear to be too eager to fix it.

Too bad Sprint doesn't care about SMS as much as it cares about voice uptime/availability. Maybe that's why?
They are called cellphones for a reason...

I agree voice is most important, but a lot of the younger generation use a heck of a lot more SMS than voice. Ask them what's more important, and you'll likely hear a different answer.
Sprint doesn't seem to care about SMS as much as other carriers. Look how long it took them to implement it. I never hear of as many SMS issues from users with other carriers either compared to Sprint.

I think it is working now since I am paging into Canada and I have been getting responses. It's going to suck when they start charging for international sms messages!

So Sprint has spent the last 3 days messing with the SMS website and there is still no sign that it will function like it is supposed to (send SMSs to other carriers). Did Sprint decide to shut this function down permanently ?
(i.e. go to http://messaging.sprintpcs.com/textmessaging/compose and try to send an SMS to a non-Sprint phone... it broke as of 8/4).
My picturemail is taking FOREVER to upload... it's sometimes failing the timeout... but it's taking about a minute per picture to upload, when it normally takes 10 seconds or so

The reason this is happening is because they are upgrading text messaging to allow users to view both their sent and received texts online as well as be able to block certain users from texting you (i.e. premium texting services) or block ALL users except certain ones.
Sign into myPCS on sprint.com then click on My Online Tools and Text Messaging.
This upgrade of the system has caused a lot of glitches.....they are working out the bugs and the system will come out better after everything is fixed.

Is it even sending the correct picture? Go to the Sprint website, logon and go to your picture mail. It will show you what pic was sent...

I dunno if anyone from Sprint will come shoot me dead for posting this... but their Customer (Dis)Service is just horrible.
I refuse to talk to people at Sprint if I don't need to. I'll just get pissed off when I don't need to be.

this past sunday i was trying to send a pm and vm text but a network issue kept occuring so it wouldn't send but i kept re trying.
i read there was an update going on with the sms system but does that require the user to download nething or we just have to wait until it finally works?
also, i was trying to use the internet on the phone and the sites weren't even loading i.e. vision home and even sprintusers wap.

I been having issues this weekend also. on my treo it doesn't give me a code just "the network is not responding", with full signal. It auto-resends and the other people tell me they received several of the same messages.
This is happening today 9/10 messages I send. Every msg is taking more than 10 seconds... Been going on for 3 days now for me.

Ive been reading these SMS problems for weeks now...id be mighty ticked off if i were some of you. However...are a lot of you from a certain region or ...scattered...
I live in wisc area and i have not had one single text messaging glitch through all this...my messages send and receive quick and fast...i just hope problems dont start now that im saying this "knock on wood"
Just curious if its certain parts or what. Sprint needs to fix this ASAP or be givin texting away free until they fix this hit or miss b.s.
I keep getting 'Network Problems Cause Code 3'
They might be the same thing... we're on different phones.

I'm getting some "code 3" errors tonight. Very annoying because even though it says "message failed" it still goes through some of the time so I resend the same message multiple times. Not cool.

anyone else notice that after all this started happening (the online-inbox that lead to all these other problems), that now @messaging.sprintpcs.com is now being filtered out by some ISP's??? It seems when I try to send an email to AOL.com email address (as well as a few other more obscure email accounts some of my friends have) i get the message bounced back. i can't read why it failed and got bounced, because the auto-reply message that AOL sends gets cut off at 160 characters because its received as SMS, but its definitely not working; at least not for me. can anyone else comment on this? is it working/not working for you? and did it seem to coincide with this "upgrade" disaster?

Maybe I am not doing it right, but, using the Online Tools and Text Messaging menu's on My Account, I can block numbers from texting me, but, I don't have the option to see the log of my texts that others are seeing. My texts are going out fairly slow compared to earlier (earlier meaning let's say a week ago), but they are going out. Any body else have this?

Ok, so what's the best method to go about complaining?
I have been dealing with horrible SMS service for the past month. I use on average 5,000+ texts a month and I'm completely pissed off.
I receive all of my friends on Sprint's texts twice, they receive all of mine twice. I miss a lot of messages and ones that are marked sent are never received, I've had it.

Dear Jameson,
Thank you for contacting Sprint together with Nextel. I understand that you are experiencing concern with text messaging. I apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced regarding this issue.
From the description provided in your message, it appears that is a technical issue.
This technical issue requires technical expertise to be resolved effectively and efficiently. We have a dedicated technical support team with the required expertise to handle such issues effectively.
So, I ask you to call us at 1-888-211-4727 and speak with an engineer. However, this time give a verbal command 'Wireless Web'. By doing so, you will be speaking to one of our Technical Support specialists rather than a customer care representative.
I have also left a note on your account, which will help the specialist understand the whole scenario.
I am also glad to inform you that I have applied a credit of $5.00 on the account that was charged for Text Messaging Pack due to the inconvenience you are experiencing. This credit will be reflected on your nxt invoice.
Thank you for contacting us. We are here for you!

I CANNOT be the only one sending them an email on this. Why can't they just fess up and say it's a network problem? In another 1-2 weeks I am shooting them off another email and will be getting a lot more than $5. I will call the number when I have time. Anyone been getting an answer about this issue? I haven't had time to search the forum so if it has been answered my apologies.
They did acknowledge the problem earlier this month. The problem started when they started to upgrade text messaging. Any known outages are usually listed on a recorded message on *700, Option 1.
And yeah, I got that exact same form letter with the $5 credit.
