Is there a "special" charger (car) required for the Katana? It looks smaller (to me at least), then the charger ports of other Sanyo's. Trying to find out if such is the case, or if you can still use the same charger as previous models (8200's 5600, etc), as I have a Belkin one, just have to find it, if it will even work.
Any idea?

No..... same ole' Sanyo charger....just confirmed it....
I'm dissappointed that this phone doesn't have the "pin-hole" charger like the 2300s 8300s 3100s and so on have....

What? I thought Sprint now mandates all phones have their universal charger port as well.
the pin on the universal port failed alot, especially on the Sanyos
so maybe that's why it was removed
I even saw a Samsung 840 which didn't have the universal port on it the other day
and yes it's the same charger as before but our handy dandy IGO charger doesn't fit unless you do some kind of rotating to the cover on the port so they are redesigning the A02 tip thank goodness

That's interesting. I heard the same comment about the pin connector's fragility elsewhere. But, it does have an advantage. I just got a Sanyo 3100 - has both ports. I use it a lot as a modem when travelling. In the past (with my 8100) I would be interrupted at times by low battery when on line. The dual port can help this. The propietary Sanyo port holds the USB cable, and the pin port can enable the phone to run on A/C while connected.

Uh-oh. The iGo A02 tip doesn't fit? I just sold a couple chargers to Katana owners. Looks like I'll be issuing refunds soon :irked: Why the hell would they change the pinout after all these years?!
yeah you have to sell one of those generic Sanyo $19.99 ones that we are always out of stock on

That's funny. On the end of that charger is a plug that loooks exactly like the A02 tip. Is the iGo tip too thick or something?

the sides of the tip are too wide, not the tip itself

Anybody know when/if/where a redesigned IGO tip will be available? Just bought my Katana, and dismayed to find out the tip won't work (thankfully the salesperson warned me when I asked for one)...

I recently ordered the Katana for my wife. While I was on the phone, I ordered the car charger at a discount. I was sent a "Platinum Mobile Power Cord" for it, but it has the pin type plug for the phone. The Katana doesn't have that type, but can I use the earpiece adapter for it? Thanks in Advance :fingers:

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking but there is no adapter I am aware of to make your Katana accomodate your barrel tipped car charger. Its unfortunate but you might have to get the Sprint car charger. You could try Target. They used to carry Sanyo chargers for $14.99 The standard Sanyo charger should fit all post-vision Sanyos but you'll have to watch the width of the tip against your Katana which has been the problem with the iGo chargers.

Thanks for the help. I don't want to open the package since I have to send it back to Inphonic, so it looks like I will return it and get one at target like you mentioned. Here I thought Inphonic would know what's going on!

No, It comes in sort of a pink package and says for Sanyo. The plug sticks out of the package so you can see that it fits... and even try it. It works great.

I will head out and look for it today. Thanks for the heads up, it beats paying full price online or waiting for it to be delivered to me!

from the wireless update under hot product info:
We are aware the A02 (273-1312) itip for Sanyo phones does not allow a full connection to the Sanyo KATANA
(170-2681/2/3/4). It is possible to make a connection and charge it if you rotate the cover, but some customers
may find this to be an unacceptable fit. The Sanyo CLA (273-1362) is fully compatible. iGo has made a
revision for the KATANA - a102 (273-0032), it has been received at the DC and will begin shipping to
stores immediately.

I bought my Katana at Costco and it came with the car charger, as well as a case and earbud. It's not name brand stuff but it fills the void for now.

No she had to buy a new car charger the Katana only had one kind of plug and her 8200 had two. Her car charger was differen't and didn't have the thing where it came off for the other pin thing. She had to buy a new one. She had some generic one I guess..

But the Katana don't have the flat thing for the charger like old sanyos use to have, that's what I'm talking about cause I know old sanyos don't have the pin barrel I think they call it,

I don't remember cause It's been so long since I owned the 8200. My 8300 took both the Katana only has one charger and her car charger for her 8200 wasn't the same kind as you need for the Katana. She had one where the 1 pin goes into the little whole the Katana takes the other kind.. Rose
