View Full Version : Buy girlfriend a Fusic?

Hey Sprintusers,
I haven't been on the forums much in a while, but I love these boards, and I am curious if anybody can offer me some advice on a purchase. I have a Samsung a900 that I adore, and I have a tough choice to make. My girlfriend's birthday is this weekend, and she is on her phone constantly. She uses her phone even more than I use mine (and I use mine around 2,500 minutes a month plus full data plan). The problem is that her old phone died a while back and she's surviving on some crappy old Sanyo barebones she got for $20 (can't remember the model, but it doesn't even have a camera). So if I get her a new Blade, I worry a bit about battery life and durability (I'm OCD and protect my phone like a newborn, but she wouldn't be that careful). I know she would love the Fusic (she liked LG phones when she was on Verizon a few years back), but I can't find it for a reasonable price. The dilemma is that when she switched to the $20 phone to hold her over, they reset her "clock" and don't want to give even the $75 discount on a new phone (even though she's been a customer for 16 months). The phone I buy needs to have video/picture mail, bluetooth, and EVDO to be worth the money. That doesn't give me alot of choices, and she would like the Pink faceplate girly stuff with the Fusic. I also make ringtones for all my friends, and she could store a huge number of quality ringtones on the Fusic.

So my question is, should I get a Fusic? And if so, how can I get one for a reasonable price? By reasonable, I mean notably less than the retarded sticker price of $330. I notice that I just missed a Sprintuser selling for $235 the other day; oh well. Ebay doesn't seem to have good prices on Fusics at the moment. Should I settle for a Blade instead (which is great for me, especially with the hi-res LCD, but not as girly or durable for her), and if so, how cheap can I get it? By the way, if I get a very slightly used one that's in mint condition, that should be ok.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The Fusic a perfect girly phone. I would also take a look at the Samsung a880. It's design isn't as girly as the Fusic's, but the color is very girly.

The fusic is a very popular phone with all peope,. and if you use a good color face plate it reminds me of star trek kind of.

Its not a girly phone,, i can be for anyone

Each to his own, I guess. The Fusic is the either the girliest of the most childish looking phone I've ever seen.

yea get her the FUSIC she'll love it simply because she can change the faceplates

you say she talks on her phone a lot so if you get her the blade you'll probably want to invest in another battery

there are a lot of FUSIC's on ebay, one seller has a slightly used one for $250

what's the most your willing to pay?

what's the most your willing to pay?I would rather stay under $250, since new signups can get it for $180. Something just seems unfair about paying so much more than new signups.

Get her a pink katana. You could probably get that for free. :) (but it doesnt have evdo although i've heard the vision is pretty fast)

Depending what faceplate you have on the Fusic it can be for a girl or a boy. The Fusic's battery is a lot better then the Blades. Also not sure if she will be using a bluetooh headset but I don't get as much static with the Fusic compared to the blade.

My wife and I are both happy with our Fusics. She wanted pink and the pink faceplate did the trick.

I gave my girlfriend a blade, because i dont like her calling me too often. but if your girlfriend uses the phone a lot the blade might not be for her, battery life sucks on this phone.

Get her the Fusic. I got my partner that.. and she's just.. well... actually she's just annoying me now. "My fusic is better than that bootleg razor you had" "My fusic.." this and that.. But yeah, the battery life is also great on that phone, I witness her go 3 days without recharging, and go from dead to full in about 30 mins.

Thanks for all the tips! I guess I have 24 hours or so to find the best possible deal on a new or slightly used Fusic.

The Fusic is definitely a good choice for the reason issues you mentioned. Of coarse ...lol...I am a little biased.

Isn't there a program with Sprint...if you're not eligible for any other rebates...they will give you refurbished phones for 50% off retail?

Also, Fusic = great phone. To me though, the A900 seems like the more durable of the two by far...but not great battery life of course.

Or, if you can find a Radio Shack closing down (go to radioshack.com, do a store search, each store (if any) in your area that's closing will have a sale thingy next to it), they mark phones down starting @ 50% & going all the way to 80%, I picked up some Sanyo 8300s for $70-something...

The a920 is also a nice girly phone.

I don't think the a920 is that girly. However, I do think it looks kind of ugly.

Buy her the Fusic! It is a great phone. I think girls like the bluetooth. And the FM transmitter is so cool. It has different face plates, so you can change it to her favorite color and get the the bluetooth to match the face plate or white to match the phone itself. Get her a bigger micro card too. Try ebay for the bluetooth and micro card, they are very cheap and brand new.

Don't buy your girlfriend a phone. You are opening a door of gift giving and setting a standard. Sure she'll think it's sweet and nice of you, but it like a rabid dog, it'll bite you in the buttocks.

Take her out to dinner and a movie, then give her a massage. An actual massage that lasts for 45 to 60 minutes. Or give her a gift certificate to get a mani-pedi-facial.

You shouldn't be purchasing "gifts" for your GF. Expensive electronic gifts anyway.

Thanks again for all the input; I just talked Sprint into giving me the $75 off and waiving all the fees, so I got a Fusic for a semi-tolerable price. More than I think it should have cost, but I'll get over it.

By the way (and technically off-topic), to those that suggested alternate forms of showing her I care, the current situation is that it's a long-distance relationship, and she comes from a rough background and has little to no money, whereas I have a degree and a good job and haven't really spent much money on her for anything in the 9 months of dating, so the only way she can realistically obtain a nice phone that enables us to resume our habits of sending pictures and videos to each other is if I buy it for her for her birthday. Not that any of that is terribly relevant, but I just figured I'd give more background.

Anyway, thanks again; I'll mark this thread as solved.

--EDIT-- Nevermind, I can't mark it as solved. This forum doesn't seem to let me edit posts that are even a day old.

Hey good for you. I'm sure she will be very happy.

As for buying your girlfriends gifts, I say, if you've got the money, go for it. I don't a girlfriend right now, but I occasionally spend money on gifts for girls who I'm really good friends with, so I know I'd spend even more on my girlfriend. Of course, I have limits, too, and I don't spend too much. I mean, you said you had a good job and that implies that you have plenty of money to buy this for her, so don't let other people get you discouraged about buying it for her. Those people are probably just mad that they don't have enough money to buy their girlfriends nice things, anyway.
