Okay, so I had a Sanyo 8100 that lasted me for three years before giving its final death rattle in the form of a broken screen. Thus, it was time to get a new phone. So I hopped my candy ass over to the friendly neighborhood Sprint goons, and procured an LGsomethingorother that proved to be most unsatisfactory in that 1) the ringer was a tad too quiet for my liking (read: estimated decibel level at max volune was less than or equal to that of a sonic boom), and 2) the cursed thing wouldn't interact with mbuzzy which, to me, is a irredeemable mortal sin in the world of cellphone features or lack thereof. So I took the thing back, explained "It wasn't quite living up to my expectations" (because "I can't use it to wake the dead and download videogame midi files I hacked" tends not to win too much sympathy at Sprint headquarters for some reason), and ended up trading the thing in for a Sanyo 3100, which has thus far proved to be a fairly groovy piece of technology, save for the following:
1) Reception. This thing drops more calls than Moe's Tavern, and it's got a worse receiver than the Dallas Cowboys. During the course of a 3-hour conversation I had last night, the phone all-out lost the signal twice and "blipped out" more times than I can even count (as in, it cut to dead air for a second or two, then cut back, as opposed to all-out disconnecting). It also seems to completely lose signal strength on a fairly regular basis, as I've pulled it out to check the time on several occasions since I've had it and often see the "looking for signal" message on the screen. Suffice to say, this is not of the awesome, and I am wondering if my phone is defective, or if lousy reception is simply one of those "surprise bonus features" that comes standard with this model. (For comparison purposes, the 8100 I had for three years only behaved like this if I was trying to use it in bomb shelter or something, and the LGwhatchamacallit didn't have any such issues during its short lifetime in my possession.)
2) Camera. My pictures are orange. Very very orange. I took a picture of myself sitting in a hotel lobby last night, and not only was I orange, the wall was orange, the couch behind me was orange, and the drunk guy in the background was orange too. I can assure you, I am not normally orange, and while I can't vouch for the drunk guy, the tint to the picture was decidedly orange, which won't do at all, because I don't want to send picture shares to my online friends who have never seen me before and have them leap to all sorts of embarrassing conclusions about potential skin disorders I may or may not have due to the fact that I appear to be a lovely shade of tangerine. I tried screwing with the "light source options" or whatever, and this seemed to significantly help with future pictures possessing unhealthy levels or orange taint, but I would still like to know for the record if this is a glitch in my specific phone, or if the standard 3100 phone mode is indeed "bright friggen orange" unless the lightsource mode is manually altered before the taking of each individual pic. (And yep, I'm sure I didn't accidentally have the orange tint dealie turned on. I did some experiments - turning that on just made the pictures even MORE orange. Though the aqua filter tended to neutralize it a bit. Hmmm. Rainbow Brite, eat your heart out.)
3) I want my alien back!! You know, that cute little green guy from my 8100 that would appear in his flying saucer and start boogie boarding across the screen whenever I opened my phone? I miss that guy! Is there any way I can download him to my new phone? Yes, I realize this is probably the most random question ever, but I miss the little dude! He was quite cute, and served as a fond reminder of my homeworld.
Aaaanyways, thanks a ton for any help anyone can provide. Hell, thanks a ton if you're even still READING this. *scurries off to bed*
