View Full Version : Sanyo Katana - text messaging question

Hi all - I just bought a Sanyo Katana and am generally very happy with it. I have one fairly significant question though, as this is my first Sprint phone that supports SMS messaging.
When the Katana receives a text message it automatically displays the message. The problem I'm having is this:
If you've been texted a URL, as I often am when uploading ringers or screensavers to my phone, there is no way to select the URL and go to the address when viewing the message for the first time. You have to close the message, open it again, and only then will the URL be selected with the option to "Go" to the address assigned to the left softkey. This is annoying, to say the least, and makes no sense.
Anyone have any answers on something I may be missing?

when the message comes in there should be a view on the lower left corner...hit that softkey to open the message and you can access your link from there...does that phone only support qcp and mid or can aac be used? im pondering a purchase

When the message comes in, the message is automatically opened. You don't click View or anything - it's just sitting there open on my screen. There's no way to select the URL... to do that I have to close the message, open Messaging, view the message and then the URL is automatically selected.
Apparently it only accepts qcp and mid ringers.

yea I think it's a bug because they forget to put in "Go". I just put 4 qcp ringers in and they all sound bad or maybe I'm just used to how good AAC ringers sound. Also my memory was already haft full.

mine works great when the message comes in and you are viewing it for the first time. scroll down and then you will hit the url and the go button will be on left bottom of the screen

Same for me, its pretty aggrivating, we can only hope that they will release a new firmware to fix the issue....this and the lack of multimedia ringers are the only 2 issues i have with this phone...
i am amazed at the speed...from loading apps, to vision preformance....its the quickest loading phone ive had so far in my 8 years with sprint...

really? when you receive a message and it automatically opens, you can select the URL? this doesn't happen for me (and other apparently)... you just scroll t hrough and nothing is selected. When I view the message by opening it from the list of messages, the Go button is there and I can select the URL. But this only happens when opening from the list of messages, not from the automatic message display that happens when the message has just arrived.

I have mine set so that i just get the icon and I need to go open it, I don't have it set on the factory setting of it just "popping up" so when I open the message the first time I can just go to the URL.

well there is a setting to have just the Message notification option to pop up wich is prolly how you have yours set up...
but i like having my tex messages come through and pop up, especially if i am running an app like garmin or even playing a game...
its under
MENU>>>SETTINGS>>>MESSAGING>>>NOTIFICATION....
but again all that does is stop the message itself from popping up when received...
but you lose the application pausing and resume functionality if you turn it to icon only....
