I have had the Katana about a week. One thing I notice is when I use either of my BT headsets (tekkeon eztalker digital or plantronics voyager 510) the battery life in them is horrible. When using my a900 with either of these devices I could go the advertised amount of talk/standby time with my headsets and with normal use I could go a few days on a charge. When paired with my katana, the battery is dead in either device by the end of the day! This is with the same amount of usage or less. I have very thoroughly tested this. Anyone else have these problems?

I have a plantronics 320 and it works all day on one charge but the Phone may be dead by the end of the day if I use bluetooth. That is about 2 hours talk time. My old 8100 had got to where it would only last one hour or less in talk time.

i don't know what is going on with that. I have the katana, the gps is on, and I use a moto 700 headset and i get great battery life out of both. my phone gets used about about 2 to 3 hours during the day with the head set and I still have atleast 1 bar left at the end of the day. my talking comes in spurts of minutes like for example one call may be 10 min, 20 min, or 50 min. also i get bunches of text messages and stuff and internet during the day.

I have the Motorola 700 as well and I have no problems, I know my phone is down to one bar at night because of all the text messaging I do but other than that my bt piece stays charged. I normally charge my earpiece overnight about every 2-3 days with maybe 2 hrs of talk time in between that time span (i don't talk much, just text really). I prob do about 80 txt messages a day (this is incoming and outgoing) and I'll maybe hop on the internet for a min or two here and there to download something or check a movie.

Just so there is no mistake, I am not talking about the battery on the phone. It will still have 2-3 bars of battery at the end of the day. I am talkin about the bt headset batteries. With either headset, the battery on it will be dead by the end of the day. I can also hear a constant low pitch sound that is barely audible in the bt earpiece. Just wonderin if its a problem with my phone.

that may just be the headset problem.

Definitely not a headset problem, since two different headsets have the problem and they dont have this problem with my a900. The phone must be a defective pos.

The Bluetooth on the Katana is only Version 1.1, not 1.2 like in the Samsung. This is most likely the reason why the Bluetooth is draining the battery faster...

I wasn't aware that the different bt revisions effected battery life. I thought it was more for stopping interference with wireless networks and stuff.
I stopped by the sprint store and asked them about it, and they said there are no know issues. Yesterday I talked for about an hour and the rest of the day was standby time and my eztalker digital was totally dead. Has to be something wrong with the phone since it does it with 2 known good headsets. I'm going in tommorow and asking for an exchange I think.

I think he may have found something here. I noticed with my friends katana. I used the bt headset. Then ended the call. Left the headset in my hear. Kept hearing static. As if it was still somehow connected. Even though the phone call had ended. Maybe the phone is still connected to the headset and is draining the battery

Did you end the call with the hs button or press end on the phone? You may be on to something. I usually use the hs button to end the call, could be a bug in the phone.

I exchanged my katana and still have the same problem. I paired it with my eztalker monday night, left it in standby mode, and it was dead the next day mid afternoon and I only talked an hour. Last night I paired it with my plantronics 510 and did the same thing and it was dead by 4pm today with less than an hour talking. Maybe I am doing something wrong, although I don't know what it is. Never had these probs when I used either headset with my a900 at all.

Tekkeon support sent me a brand new eztalker digital. I am getting the same result. Today I used the new headset they sent me and it's already half dead with hardly any usage. As the other user noted, I also had static from the headset when I was not on a call. I would say that there is an issue with the bt in the katana transmitting constantly and not goin into standby mode. I put in a question to sanyo via email, but have received no response yet. I can't beleive other users aren't noticing this if they use bt heavily like me.

I have had the same problem with my Katana and plantronics head set. Killing the batteries, but after playing a bit I think I found part of the problem. I would connect the headset by pressing the talk button on the headset and the katana would grant access. If I would connect from the katana or tell it to find the head set the batter would last two or more day’s. hope this helps.///wes

just got a blueant x3 and it stays in 'sniff mode' even if i connect it from the phone rather than the headset, i'll see what kind of life i get out of it and report back, that would be crappy on sprint/sanyo's part if the phone is not letting the headset go into standby and lessening its battery life
