Hey I'm thinking of getting either a Treo 700P or a Blackberry 7130e. I currently am on T-mobile with an 8700G and I love it. Obviously I'm porting to sprint to eat up the EVDO sexy speed. I had the Treo 700P for 2 days a while back and one annoyance was definitely the ringtone volume. Mp3 ringtones (m4a) sounded too bassy and just overall crappy and low. Has Volume care improved this for you guys? I didnt get a chance to really play with the phone, but the web browsing was really nice. To be honest I'm leaning more towards the 7130e because of reliability and just a rock solid OS...but I AM considering the 700P just because it seems as though you can do more, not to mention a full querty keyboard. As silly as it may sound, ringtones are a HUGE thing for me. My 8700G ringtones are nice and super loud on my 8700G and I'm sure it'll be pretty much the same on the 7130e. The 700P I cannot vouch for as of yet. The 8700g keyboard is very responsive on the 8700G, and I'm sure the 7130e may be a learning curve but probably is the same. 700P Keyboard feels like it protrudes catering to the 1 finger typer. Let me know what you guys think. I'll be leaving to sprint within the hour.

Can't speak for the 700p but the 7130e has great volume and sound for playing back ringtones.

I have had both and I would say the volume for ringers is lower on the blackberry. Atleast you can get volume applications to help that on the Treo.

More applications and options on the Treo and that is why I switched over. Blackberry will require the Blackberry plan that is $40 on top of your voice plan as well if you want to use Blackberry options. When I bought mine there was a loophole but I think that is gone now.

I liked my blackberry I love my Treo :)

But what about the farty bass sounds from mp3s? lol. At least that's what I experienced out of the box. It just was really low volume. But like I said I can't really comment because I didn't use it for that long. I'd want to tether on either device...so most likely 40.00 monthly would be the option. But that wouldn't start till about 3 months into service. So it'd be nice to pay 20.00 for power vision for the first 3 months. hmm...Treo working solid for you? And more applications meaning what? What programs do you have installed currently or which couldn't you get on the blackberry? I LOVE THREADED SMS!!!!!

For me the best choice was the 700p. I tried the BB7130 for a week and while I liked it quite a bit I just liked the Treo that much more. The things that tipped to the Treo's favor were: better battery life, being able to store email and files on the SD card, able to view pdf's and ppt presentations natively, and being able to watch recorded TV shows and movies. The last one was really a lifesaver last week while in NW Iowa with no SPCS data access.

Well I'm walking into the sprint store now. I wonder if the treo still has the skipping mp3/m4a problems via ringers and ptunes etc? Wish me luck on my decision. Either way theirs a return policy

The $40 BB plan is a great deal if you use PAM. Unlimited tethering, unlimited EVDO Vision from the handset, and the BB email service.

If you never plan to use your phone as a modem though, the BB plan is way too pricey.

So I bought the treo 700p....the battery on the demo model of the 7130e died after using it for 2 minutes. Suretype sure was pretty darn smart. Double tap wasn't too bad either. treos screen looked a tad bit clearer + bigger. I guess ill be home in a few hours after my number porteed over to give it a shot. Anyone know if the treo 700p has a way to sort the contacts by first name, then last????

The 700p has only two options in contacts:

Last Name, First Name
Company, Last Name

Don't know if there any apps out there to customize this within the Phone App.

For the ringtones there are programs that can help you lower the amount of bass that's in the ringtone.

I've been hangin in there with the treo 700p. I've experienced several crashes, thus making me feel that the phone is fragile. I'm sure any other treo 700p owner can vouch for the fact of when the 700p does work properly, its a beautiful feeling. I spoke with a sprint rep regarding an unlimited phone as modem plan...he led me to believe is that I'd have to pay for vision services on top of a tethering plan? are they serious? 15.00+39.99 monthly sounds a bit on the ridiculous side.

all in all I like my treo, but the crashes pose as a major inconvience. I'm trying to be patient in hopes of a firmware update. but knowing myself I may not have the patience for that. my other alternatives are the blackberry 8700G and I've almost considered the ppc-6700 (but it won't match my upcoming mac mini duo too well :( ).

note: the blackberry 7130e is considerably louder stock than the treo and once the zen theme is installed it becomes super loud.

The $40 PAM plan for Treo includes internet from the phone, but no speacial services like Sprint TV from what I am told.

internet from the phone? if I can browse the internet from my phone and not only use it as a modem i'd be happy. I'm the lowest plan of power vision right now. The bottom of the barrel 15.00/monthly plan that doesnt include picturemail or any of that extra stuff.

How do you like your 7130e? hard to get used to the keyboard..holding onto the blackberry name until the 8702/3 comes out ? :)

I had no problem with the 7130e's keyboard, but then again I had used the 7100t on T-Mobile about 15 months ago!
