View Full Version : Do I have a shot at negotiating a better deal if I recently re-upped a contract?

Hello all..

Here is my current situation:
SPCS customer ~6 years
2 lines
No spending limit
Never missed or made a late payment
Both lines are eligible for $150 upgrade credit
Never called for credits (however two billing errors this year were corrected)
Monthly bill averages $110

Back in April I contacted Ecare to look in to getting some discounts and/or freebies for my plan. I originally had the $69.99 F&F plan plus $5.00 N&W @ 7:00 and the other usual options (vision, etc.). Here is the plan they offered and I accepted:

- F&F 800 Shared minutes for $69.99 + free roaming
- Free N&W @ 7:00
- 10% Loyalty Discount
These features we originally had and kept:
- Free M2M
- Vision pictures pack (1st line) w/100 Free Text Messages: $15.00
- Video Mail (1st line only): $5.00
- Vision pictures pack (2nd line) w/100 Free Text Messages: $5.00

The offer was contingent on us re-upping our contract for 2 years. Therefore, our current contract doesn't expire until likely May of 2008.

So with that said, we are ready for new phones and PowerVision. My 4050 is dying slowly and my wife's 8100 is also at the end of its days. We would very much like to stay with Sprint at this point but we are starting to be "enticed" by some other companies. I know that we would have the ETF's to deal with but that might not be such a big deal considering some of the other deals that might be available to us.

Here is what we're after:
- 2 new phones (The LG Fusics) for free or for a reduced price
- Free or reduced N&W @ 6:00 (if available in our area)
- Free or reduced Power Vision Ultimate Packs for BOTH lines
- Free or reduced Phone-as-Modem plan for ONE line
- KEEP Free M2M
- KEEP 10% Loyalty Discount

We would definitely stay if we could get a couple of these things (either discounts or freebies). Knowing our information and our contract status, do you think that we have a chance through retention?

Thanks in advance!

Personally, for me, the contract period has not been a factor when calling retentions, but I know that for some people it has. I guess it just depends on the rep you get and how good you are at talking to retentions.

OK Good to know. Thanks for relaying your experience! Anyone else have any suggestions?

m2m is included with shared plans.
Could probably get the 1000 min/50 dollar plan.
Nights @ 7:00 is standard so that's not an issue. Could probably swing 6pm
PAM would mostly like not be available discounted.
same for Vision
Could probably get the a900 or a920
Fusic is tricky

The rep I talked to said they don't offer 'retention' deals within a year of each other.

Well that's probably a good thing for me. We don't have a retention plan currently - when we got the 10% discount and changed our plan, it was through Ecare. The rest of our plan is something that anyone off the street could get.
