View Full Version : Input On New Line for My Mom?

I've recently gotten my plans changed around and have really nice retentions plans for myself and my two teens (husband has sprint through work).

We have 3 1000 a/t $40 plans with free/offsetting credited:
FIMF, M2M, Roaming, N/W @7 and 500 SMS
Free Vision on PV phones (we were in that "limbo" period when we were offered free PV but no codes existed. I have a 6700 so no worries. Kids have A920s so they stay off TV and no extra charges)
with discounts the lines net out about $32 each after taxes so this is a great family deal for under $100

My mom is going to be 80 this year -- she rocks -- and has a Cingular 500 minute "rollover" plan that costs her $59 base cost with basically no perks of any kind. I tried to negotiate her a nice new phone and a better rate at the Cingular store and the girl was so not interested. So I figured I'd move her "into the light" with Sprint! She does NOT need vision, power or otherwise, or texting. She just needs a decent phone and enough minutes to chat away when she's here with us or on the road.

Questions:

1. Should I try to get her phone/plan under my family umbrella and just pay it through my bill or set her up independently? Is the $40/1000 plan the best for her?
2. I have my old Sanyo 5400 phone that works fine. Should we activate that for her or get her a new phone? She doesn't need a PV phone or anything tricked out. Probably just speakerphone.
3. While I"m on the phone (my plans are all through retentions so I assume that's who I'll be speaking with) should I try to "iron out" the vision issue to get PV codes? We're only like 3 months into our new cycle so I don't mind if they have to reup the three lines to do it.

TIA for any advice! :wavey:

If they will let you add the line under your plan, do that.

add her if you can and get a new phone. The sanyo 5400 is a good phone but if they are willing to send you one free, it cant hurt to have a back up

I think you should try to add her, if not, I'm sure you could get free M2M, and that way you could keep her on a smaller individual plan. Also, I wouldn't recommend letting her use your old phone, it's gonna be a 2 year contract :deal: , so you may aswell cough up around $50 and get her a sanyo 3100 or something similiar :)

Thanks, folks. Getting ready to make the call. I've got to get the texting charges fixed on my line (I've got unlimited and 500 and the unlimited was supposed to go away since they had trouble crediting it to make it free. That's when they gave me the 500 with the offset credit, but that unlimited charge is stuck in the plan like glue.) If I start with retentions to discuss this on my plan then maybe I can ask about mom while I've got them on. If I can get her the $40 plan with 20% off, that's a great deal for her. If they will give a free phone, that would be even better. Wish me luck!

Just fniished my monthly 1-hour Sprint phone call :) The first guy I got in Account Services was great and we looked at all my offsetting credits still not offsetting and that hard-wired $10 unlimited texting. I"m not sure he was able to get it to budge. Now, we noticed my son's TEP was only $4 and I had upgraded it to the $6 myself personally. Mine and my daughter's were right. He tried to fix it and it threw the VISION CODES ACK!!! We discussed the whole vision thing. He told me to just leave it be after he went in and looked at what EVDO codes he had. He said wait and they'll have more codes to offer you. I also learned the only perk with an expiration right now for me is our texting -- 2 years. I need to work on getting that expiration removed :)

Then as we were setting my mom up on a plan just like mine... THE CALL DROPPED. RATS! I called back and got a very nice lady, but unfortunately when push came to shove, she was unable to actually set up the line with the $40/1000. She said she doesn't do a lot of new plans. She did order mom's phone, a Nokia 3155i for free and free activiation. However, she set it up with some 200 minute plan and put a high priority note in the file that I would call when the phone arrived, before unlocking it, and that Mom's plan should mirror mine with the same free services and discounts.

I hope that wasn't a mistake to go ahead and let her send it -- but I suppose I'm not obligated to keep it if somehow it ends up getting messed up too badly, especially if I haven't even unlocked it. So it looks like Mom's got a nice plan with many nice perks for about $30 a month if we can get the loose ends tied up. Thanks for the input and advice.
