i ordered my blackberry 7130 the other day and it came in the mail this afternoon. so i call up to do an esn swap to activate it, and i get transferred to technical support (their new "blackberry techs" :lmao: )
they tell me that i can in no way activate my blackberry WITHOUT getting one of their blackberry plans for $40. i tell the man that he is wrong.
i told him i want power vision, or nothing at all but he tells me that power vision is not an option.
he tells me this as im staring at the side of the blackberry 7130e box that reads "SPRINT MOBILE BROADBAND ENABLED: High-speed data services on this device are designed exclusively for use on the Sprint Power Vision Network"
i then get put on hold for "technical difficulties" and hang up after 10 minutes of ****ty music. ****ing sprint.
its convenient how they "forget" to mention the data plan requirement when they sell u the phone

i walked right in, told the guy i needed an esn swap. no one knew anything about the phone and they didnt even have em in store.
i told him my dilemma, he agreed that sprint reps dont know what theyre doing most the time and he swapped it out no problem.
i still dont have power vision but i at least dont have to worry about shellin out $40 every friggin month.
note to self: go to sprint store when not busy to receive good service.

congrants.... how do you not have PV? as in its not working, or its not on the account? i would think a BB would be like a PPC and they couldnt let you leave the store without it on the account....

You need to take it to a Sprint store because the BB reps through *2 don't know what they are talking about. When you do that have them call the BB reps and tell them what they were told so we can maybe limit the number of instances we have like this again. It is irritating me and I didn't have to deal with it.

Here's the deal:
Any PV phone gets a ghetto PV code on the account. Same thing with vision phones. Vision phones get IP basic allowing you vision access without a plan. PV phones get "EVDO Casual Rate" as well as IP Basic. You don't have to add the BB plan or a PV pack. You can simply use it at the 2 cents per kilobit rate if you prefer. But to have a BB and no plan makes almost no sense. Having a treo and no data plan I could see.

ill eventually get a full blackberry plan, but not until the rate lowers or sprint offers it discounted on sero

You can maybe get it for $29.99 or discounts to offset it. Not bad for the plan and PAM. Call them up and tell them T Mobile offers their BB plan for $29.99 (check the site and my siggy)

E-care is offering me a good deal on the 7130e, but says that any discounts on rates are "incompatible" with my company discount of 15%. Any ideas about this?

When I activated my 7130e phone last month, the Business tech told me I could choose from 3 Blackberry plans:
1. Browser only for $25/month
2. 5 MB for $39.99/month
3. Unlimited for $49.99/month, but they were offering special for $39.99/month
Has anyone else heard this? I'm really only interested in internet, but not for $40/month!

I got the same krap when I activated my 6600! I was told that I had to have a PDA plan in order to use it sO I didn't get charged for vision... Needlees to say my 6600 is strictly a PDA right now...

That person is flat out wrong. There is one plan: the $40 blackberry plan for email and unlimited data (including tethering [PAM]).

Wow, everyone seems so upset. Just to set the record straight, on the 7250 you could originally put normal vision on the device and it would work free like the PDA's web. The reason is the browser was pre installed like current pda's. However with the 7130e, and new 7250's you will not be able to use only vision, because the browser will not provision without a "blackberry" plan. Hence RMS, P2k, and Premiere will allow any rep who does not know this put a vision plan on the Blackberry, but the user will never even see the web icon or be able to activate blackberry push email(means you will pay for nothing). However I will say this 39.99 for unlimited blackberry email is not uncommon. It is in fact very competative, remember this, the only cheaper blackberry service is through T-mobile, and it is not EVDO, or even good EDGE. Plus Sprint allows unlimited tethering with the unlimited Blackberry plan. Make sense?
