I work for Radioshack, and I am needing a new phone. I did have to sign a contract at one point to get the free N&W at 7, but I am out of that contract now (as of Febuary of this year.) I have been eligibile to upgrade since 3/1/06.. I really want the A920. I called in today to drop my 7 p.m. (dont' need it anymore) and enquired about it. Now, sometimes these people are really cool, but this guy wasnt. He said that because of the rate plan that I am on, I can't actually get a contract, which means no deal for the A920.
Should I try calling back?

That sounds like garbage to me... I would definitely call back. Even if you CAN'T be under contract, I would think they would still like to retain your business. What kind of plan are you on, anyway?

I don't even understand how it's not possible to be under contract. I assume that every plan can have a contract. I've never heard of them telling you that you can't be under contract.

My plan is 3000 a/t minutes and 1000 n&w starting at 9 for $20 a month.
It's the 3rd party employee plan wiht Radioshack. I have had it since November 15,2000.

You can get a contract on that plan..... I have that plan and I'm on one.....

we have to buy the sprint phones outright since we are not in a contract, we have nothing to renew, the rebates are mail ins only. i bought an a920 back in december, paid full price for it, and got a $75 mail in that i never touched and is still here in my room
no contract, ive been on the employee plan for almost 2 years now, its for as long as im employed at the shack.

I am going to try to call tommorro to see if I can qualify for that phone cheaply. I know that I have been told it can't be done, but I am going to do my best to sweet talk and schmooze until I get that phone!

I am on a 3rd party plan as well, and you can be under a contract with it. I believe it has to due with the initial credit check done. I'm not under a contract myself, but I won my first PCS phone in a contest during training and I have purchased from Ebay ever since so I havent came across your problem. I would call customer care again and if they dont help, try retention. Good Luck man, dont forget, there is always ebay...and SU!
