no...you have to upload them via a an uploader like focus or rumkin...do a search on ringers...screensavers...apps...
also check the multimedia section...

Bluetooth transfers are not possible as far as ringers and screensavers go. The easiest way to do that is with an uploader. However, there is a way that you can do it using the USB cable, but it's kind of complicated. Search for "how to upload ringers USB a900" or any combination of those words, and you should be able to find it.

So what I got it go to the samsung website and download a certain thing. Then connect my phone to the computer and I can upload music to my phone. I won't be able to use it as a ringtone, but I can listen to it. Does this cost money? Am I even right?

Yes...you are right.
Download the driver, install, hook up to computer with provided cable, connect to PC from phone, copy files to phone, disconnect, listen, enjoy

Here's a link that might help you out...

Shows you how to upload anything to your a900. I don't own one so I don't know if it works but you can try. Hope that helps.

Ok cool...But does it cost anything? I don't have Vision.
Thanks for the link too...

No, it doesn't cost anything, you're using the data cable, not Vision. It's your data cable, not Sprint's. The information you send is yours, not Sprint's. Then again, if you have bootleg songs and stuff, it's really not yours, but you know what I mean.

Ok cool. I got another question, they will never end :) . Ok about upload music to my phone so they can use it as a ringtone, you know the way most people on the site do it. It costs $.02/kb. I don't have Vision. So lets say I have a 50 kb ringtone sent to myself, how much will opening the Text Message, getting on to the net, and downloading it cost?
Freak4Dell
06-15-2006, 11:49 PM
text message will cost 10 cents, actual ringtone would cost a dollar, and connecting to the site would probably cost between 10-20 cents. So, I'd say about $2 just to be safe. If you think it's worth it, go for it, but I'm cheap, so I don't think that's worth it. I would just call Sprint and try to get PV free for a month. They pretty much do it for all customers with PV phones, especially customers that just got the phone recently.

OK...thanks. Yea $2 is too much for a ringer. I won't upload much. I'll be happy with being able to listen to music. Thanks all of you answering me. It's summer and reading is definitely out of the question ;).
OH lol, one more. The song has to me .mid or .qcp? Or can it be something else.

NVM the question before that, but what format must videos be in?
Freak4Dell
06-16-2006, 07:28 AM
songs should be in .m4a or .mp4 for best quality to size ratio, but they can also be in mp3 if you'd like
videos should be in .3gp format, and .3gp2 or .3g2 might work also.
STLCards002
06-16-2006, 12:57 PM
I did put my videos in that format, but I only got a video screen. It even powered off once.
Might it have to do with the size of the video, dimensions is a better word.

okay let me clarify 2 things. one you can link an a900 to annother phone, just if you send a pic make sure you dont send a 1.3 mpix to a vga camera phone. set the other phone's bluetooth profile to visable and do a scan on the a900. and as for the video the size of the screen cant be to big and the file size cant be either.

A friend gave me a .mp4 file and it showed video. When I tried .3g2 and .3gp with another video it didn't work.
Thanks acdbrn.

Actually, you can do screen savers with the USB cable as well. And over Bluetooth. I believe both are covered in the A900 FAQ.
Freak4Dell
06-19-2006, 03:17 PM
Yeah, but that takes away from your 50MB. I think it's better to have screensavers stored in the 11MB that you can't use for anything but ringtones, games, apps, and screensavers, anyway. Of course, if you've got that full, I guess it's always a good alternative option.
laursifer
06-19-2006, 03:56 PM
It's all a matter of preference. I don't use my 50MB for any music whatsoever because it's just a ridiculously small amount of storage space. I like having the wallpapers in with my camera pics because I can organize them into different albums and I can send them to people as well through pic mail. I also like to have games and apps (don't use ringtones at all) and 11MB is another pathetically small amount of storage in that respect. I'm anal about my wallpapers, so they have to be high-quality and it's nice to have that much more free space AND be able to have that many more wallpapers, without eating up that 11MB (which is actually more like 10).
Since I don't use my A900 for any music, it hadn't even occurred to me that using your mass storage for wallpapers would detract from that. So that's a damn fine point you make. :)

Well I tried making a .gif picture I sent to my phone the screensaver but it didn't work.
STLCards002
06-20-2006, 01:58 AM
I figured out how to get one as a screensaver, but its not clear. What are the dimensions? I read 240x320 and that is really big. I uploaded one anyway and the image gets unclear.
Freak4Dell
06-20-2006, 06:34 AM
Yeah, it's 240x320, but for some reason, the phone can't handle GIFs too well. I had one that made the phone freeze up and restart. Try making it so that the GIF is not too many frames long, and the file is not too big.
laursifer
06-20-2006, 09:43 AM
Freak is correct. You want to keep it under 10 frames total (even that's pushing it) and the frames shouldn't be too close together OR too far apart. IMO, and I've said this many times, it's not even worth it. Phone just can't handle GIF files and not many phones can, to be honest.
Also, don't store them in Mass Storage. Send them through an uploader into your Download Content.
STLCards002
06-20-2006, 12:26 PM
But my GIF is not animated. And I'm not uploading them b/c I don't have Vision and then that would cost about $1-2 so its not worth it.
Oh yea I uploaded a JPEG to the phone in 240x320 non animated and it became blurry when it shrunk the picture to fit the screen.
This is like 1.5x bigger than the screen...http://img344.imageshack.us/img344/447/spheares2qr.jpg

It's because it's QVGA (Quarter Video Graphics Array--it's basically 1/4 of the maximum resolution of 640x480 old-school displays). The size of your screen and the resolution of the screen are two entirely different things, just like on a computer, so the size of your wallpaper doesn't have to be (nor should it be), the same size as the screen.
I tested the exact pic you posted on my own phone and it looks fine to me.
